I think you did an amazing job of letting us know what Vladimir's episodes are like. It makes me want to hug and hold him to keep the three-headed man away.
Very nice. I liked Elliot and Mike a lot. (And, appropriately, I didn't like Pete and his father very much.) It sounds like it could be the start of an interesting story. (hint, hint)
I am one of those people who don't leave reviews very often. (Sorry to all of you wonderful authors.)
Why? Usually I don't know what to say. Most chapters are great but, to be honest, I feel silly just posting "That was great!" after every chapter. Should I be doing that anyway? [Please let me know.]
I don't (ever) want to be critical of a chapter. You authors spend so much of your time creating interesting stories and places to "visit". You don't deserve criticism. I don't want to try to rush your work either. I've tried writing a few things and it takes a lot of time to get a story the way you want it and to polish it.
I applaud each and every one of you and have always hoped that my "likes" make you feel good. I'd give you all a hug if I could. You're all so talented and generous. Thank you from the depths of my heart.
"the day will come"
I have enjoyed your stories for a long time. You have a way of bringing characters to life and making thing realistic but not letting any badness of the realism overshadow the story (eventually). Thanks!
I followed this story when you posted at another website but didn't remember it until about 1/3 of the way through. I finished it anyway.
I very much love this story and thank you so much for writing it. You wrote it in such a way that I could connect with both young men in the story. Their families are great and real (even the brothers who could one moment be sassy and the next moment loving). I did have had a couple of gay, deaf friends (they have since moved) but they were wonderful people.
I would love to see a sequel <hint, hint>. Perhaps we could see what has happened with Shelby and Wilton too?
I don't watch TV anymore but liked Heroes, ST:TNG and Babylon 5 when they were running (although Heroes was damaged a lot by the writers' strike).
For movies (which i also don't watch much anymore), I like comedies: Young Frankenstein, History of the World: Part 1, Monty Python and the search for the Holy Grail are my top three, i guess.
Meditate
Go out for a bicycle ride
Just watch the world go by
Now, shutting up my mind isn't easy. [Meditation is the most difficult of the ones I mention above.] Breaking my rumination cycles is always hard and meditation (or focused relaxation) is the only way that works for any length of time.
Hello everyone,
I've "lurked" here for quite awhile and read many good stories. Only tonight did I finally register.
I have written a few stories although most of them are more like erotica than real stories so probably don't fit the guidelines here. As I have time, I might try to write a story with a more coherent plot line. It will depend on how busy I am.
I might be able to help writers with grammar and spelling. I'm too new to the craft of writing to be able to give good advice on plot, character development, etc. (although I could give my opinions?) Any of the veterans have suggestions about that?
Good to be a part of the community. to everyone.
Hello Maximoff,
I was once a graduate student in chemistry and in a similar situation (although my advisor was not quite as bad as what you describe -- I would guess that my parents were worse than what you describe).
I managed to struggle through all of it. At times, I was ready to quit -- too much stress. At other times, I was able to push ahead a little. It was a matter of increments -- progress but with a very high energy of activation.
I would suggest talking to someone. I didn't do that until (much) later and my job stress was getting to me (and the stress of dealing with my family). It helped in many ways although not completely for me. [i am now taking some mild antidepressants which I probably should have been taking for a very long time.] I'm pretty sure that that person would be willing to talk about whatever you thought was affecting your life.
For me, it was helpful to have something *other* than research to do. Perhaps you enjoy dancing? or gaming? or walking in the wilderness? or... Taking some time for that (and *trying* not to think about the lab) can help. Being around non-graduate students might help (although this is probably difficult since you spend so much time around them).
Remember that research is your (important) job but it is not your life. You have to take care of yourself too.
I wish you well. You can do it. There are people (now you have one more) cheering you on! Best wishes!
