I am not sure I know what to do with myself over this holiday weekend! We only have one horse move, a mini going to the parade tomorrow, that my daughter is handling. I get all 3 days off! I cannot remember the last time I got 3 days off in a row! ( Does spending a month in a medically induced coma count as off? If not, then when the world shut down for covid in March of 2020 was as close as I have come to extended time off.) Daughter is now towing without one of us with her, but she says she wants to stick to the littles and easy horses for now. Joke is on her tho, the little she has towed to shows this year and is taking to the Parade tomorrow has given me more issues than most of the other regular customers! But she like Daisy, so ...

So...put your iced tea in a pretty wine goblet and enjoy! We used to help my uncle with Christmas tree harvest on his tree farm every Thanksgiving. Usually about 15 peeps all weekend. One year ( about 25 years ago!) We arrive and the good silver is in the kitchen drawer instead of its decorative/protective box, the good crystal is in the cabinet by the fridge, all the stuff for "special occasions" was in daily use. Mom asked what was up? He said "What's the point of having all this stuff if you don't use and enjoy it?" I loved the idea! But it did get me a little bit of hassle. I'm sitting at my dining table in front of the picture window with my laptop one morning, orange juice in the crystal goblet I got at a Renaissance festival glass blower shop. The nosy neighbor walks her dog past, and I wave. An hour later I get to the school for my lunch hour supervision gig and I get called to the office. They tried to send me home as it was reported I was seen "day drinking".

Horse has been exercised, chores are done, dinner has been prepped, laundry is running, and the sky has opened up. I think the rain right now has better water pressure/flow than my shower! I do believe I shall make a cup of tea and watch the storm.

Basically, yes!

Actually, the problem is that momma thinks it is ok to let the mare say no and move away. Each time she let's the animal say no it gets worse. If she would just LISTEN to me, or the barn manager where she boards, rewards good behavior like moving further into trailer, and does not allow backing away, horses learn pretty quickly getting on is a good thing. But no, she knows better, let's the horse back out, croons to her and gives treats "to calm her" then let's her graze befor trying again. <SMH> Like I told hubby, I tried. Now it's not my monkey, not my circus. I just hope the mare never needs to go to the clinic in an emergency. If it were my mare, dinner would be on the trailer every night for a month. No backing away, and if you want dinner, get in the trailer. By the end of the month she would be waiting for the tailgate to drop!

No idea if it would work on floors, but Gram used to use Jubilee kitchen wax to clean/shine tiles on the back splash that previous owner of the house scrubbed the shine off. Be careful tho if you try it. Might make floors slippery!

Oh good lord! A former customer bought her own trailer because she thought my prices were too high. Yesterday hubby brought another customer to a hunter pace ( basically a timed trail ride with jumps) and met the former customer there so the ladies could ride together. Things went great till they loaded horses for the ride home @ 2:30. Our customers horse walks right on. An HOUR later hubby and customer give up waiting and head home. 4:30 , Gabby has had her liniment bath ( she is 28), hubby is home and we hear Bonnie is still NOT on the trailer. They finally got back to their barn @ 6:30. People don't understand it is not just a ride somewhere I supply. You are also paying for my time and experience. Last time I moved Bonnie took me 20 or 30 min to load. She is a 4 year old so it does take a bit of time and patience.

Was a lovely day for a horse show, and only one snafu from the online registration server!

Five minutes at my computer and I have renewed 3 trailer registrations and my husbands drivers license. SOOOO much better than sitting in line at the local MVC office!

I found that sitting back and making a plan for the "What if's" let's me relax and move forward. I only allow myself to do it for reasonable possibilities like a horse being injured at a show. The far fetched ideas that pop into my head get "punt" as the plan. For example, last fall we had a hurricane eventually postpone the big year end show I had 8 horses booked to transport. Plan A, load on schedule, but include cinder blocks to weigh down the pop up awning and extra rain gear. Plan B be prepared to keep horses in trailer when not competing if it's too nasty to use tents. Plan C I take responsibility to say no travel due to the weather. Funny thing, when I told plan c to the show coordinator, 30 min later I got a call back saying whole show was postponed till the following weekend and anyone unable to attend would be credited or refunded. Yes, I have been told had I entered the military I would have made a good general.

Yum! What time is supper? I'll bring the cobbler! You can't even tell it's sugar free!

Totally. The assigned ride times are one of the things I LIKE about dressage. Hunter/Jumper shows get squirrely on timing all the time due to ring conflicts and the like. But if you know you ride at 2 and 2:15 and its an hour drive to the show you can plan your day. Provided of course show management gets their act together!
-
Why do people with O clue how to run a show try without asking help from people who do? For those who do not know, dressage shows are run on a fairly tight schedule. You are given a time to be in the ring, and if you are late you are dq'd. Show two weeks ago the idiot that made the schedule had a rider entering the ring every 6 minutes. The problem with that is the tests are 6 min long. That does not leave any time for the judge to finish her notes and/or speak with the riders. By the mid morning break the show was more than an hour behind schedule. Now this weekend the day sheet is published and my customer is not on it. She calls and asks what ber ride times are and gets the reply "yes we have your entry right here, see you Sunday". Ummm, WHEN on Sunday? Makes a big difference when we leave home. Do we need to be there for 9 am show start time? Or are we the last rides of the day? And dont even think of giving us a 9 am first test and a 4 pm last test. They have done that to us in the past too!

How about if she has a word with Mike's mom? Bet that would put an interesting twist on the situation!

While there is nothing wrong with wanting to extend your stay, there is a right way and a wrong way to do it. Go to the desk and ASK. Most hotels, motels and camp grounds will be glad to juggle things, provided you are polite! I think that's the biggest thing. People have forgotten basic manners.

Love all those foods except the eggs. I'm allergic. Actually I gave not had a reaction in many years, but have not gotten brave enough to try a fried/scrambled/hard boiled egg. Used to react to "hidden" eggs in baked goods etc, but that stopped after Wings was born.

Finally saw the dentist after being rescheduled 4 times since Thursday. Bad news I will not get the repaired teeth back till Saturday at the earliest. Good news, no charge. They absolutely agreed that this one is on the lab, they should have outlasted the rest of my natural teeth. Any suggestions for soft easy to eat without any molars meals?
-
Woohoo! Two days in a row off! No barn, no customers, I didn't even do any chores! Hardest thing I did all weekend was decide what to eat.
-
<Peeks out from under my rock> No customers lurking?
-
Well, I am also headed back to the dentist. My (less than a year old) dentures have the anchor hook on the uppers break off and a crack in the lowers. At least no novacain involved and I don't have to hang upside down!
-
Shhhh, don't tell anyone, but I THINK I might get this weekend off!
-
No you are not! The correct answer to these are "I ain't gonna tell ya!"

Hey guys? The "ghosts" were themselves summoned. Someone, presumably human, did the summoning. The $92 question is why? What benefits does the summoning bring? What do they get out of it? Other than a glow in the dark minion?

Happy Birthday. May you have many more! You get to sleep till 5?
