  1. Saw a video this afternoon. An airboat apparently does quite well on snow. The caption was " Hold my gumbo" Don't hate on me, I didn't choose the caption!
  2. Good grief! A foot of snow in New Orleans. News said they had to contract with a company in Illinois for snow removal. Apparently they have never needed a plow befor.
  3. "Take my horse to the dental clinic" she said. "He loads easy" she said. 2 hours later. 8* f (-13*C) actual temps, wind chills below 0 and she says "oh well, past apointment time. Go turn him out." I HATE letting a horse win! But it was just too damn cold.
  4. Got the first real snow we've had in a long time. Started as rain and it took me 10 min to chip thru the layer of ice under the smow to get into my truck! The evening News said snow in Florida tomorrow. Bundle up @kboisand find some socks!
  5. Woohoo! Congrats Colton!
  6. Sweet and innocent are the ones you need to watch closest!
  7. Which is what I said in paragraph two.
  8. Something that should also be taken into consideration is the context. A character who is a 16 yr old drop out living on a farm that sounds like an ivy league educated English prof just does not ring true. That is not to say the overall work should not be grammatically correct, but sometimes incorrect is the way to go. And that is coming from someone who has edited for several authors here and earned herself the moniker "that nazi".
  9. My dog loved the taste! Bitter Grape too. I ended up using cayenne pepper sauce.
  10. Then there is the totally different subject of people who get lost driving. I don't know why. One of the equine clinics I transport to is on Street Road and a regular customer has an address of 23 Horicon Rd, nearest cross street Horicon Lane. I see absolutely no reason to become confused!
  11. May you all have peace, love and joy!
  12. How come when everyone else gets time off for the holidays my business picks up? I am booked for every day the next 2 weeks except Christmas and New Years days and the only reason I get those off is i told peeps I could not move their horses those days. As is, the only reason I am not working today is the lady that hired me to move contents of a garage to a storage unit decided to reschedule because 13*f (-10*c) was just too cold to work in an unheated garage. Yes, she hired me paying horse rates because she decided having the ramp is a whole lot easier than a steep narrow ramp into a u-haul. I charged 1 horse and mileage. I think it actually came out cheaper than the u-haul because she would have to have picked it up on Saturday, dropped it Monday and paid for 2 days instead of the 4 or 5 hours it will take with my rig. I am also understanding of working around her son and friends schedule. They are the muscle...I just drive!
  13. Nothing is dog proof if the canine is mischievous. Goes for horses too! As for the story being complete, while that may be, hopefully the writers career is not! Well done sir!
  14. Give that squirrel an Oscar!
  15. I work outside all year long. If I had my druthers, spring and fall would be preferable. Winter over summer because, as @kbois says, you can always put another layer on. That being said, I remember as a teen daytime Temps this time of year being 30's f (single digits c ) . This morning the weather geeks was talking about how Temps were 10* below avg. 2 min later he was talking about global warning. Ok, so if it's colder than avg isn't that a good thing? Wouldn't that, if maintained long term, lower the average to what we had 50 yrs ago, thereby relieving global warming? Just saying, they don't get to complain about global warming, then complain its too cold!
  16. Lmfao! Use it in good health! It's one of my faves
  17. I agree with what was said above. Document everything you can from the recent past, continue to document going forward, and bring your boss up to speed. Remember, having all your ducks in a row makes em easier to shoot!
  18. May you all be together with family and loved on this Thanksgiving morning. 🦃
  19. @Mikiesboy I am not going to repeat what everyone else has said. I KNOW you will do what needs doing. What I will say is let your men be strong for you, and lean on us when you need that little bit more support. We all love you.
  20. We will either have a dud winter ( unusually warm/dry) or be up to our navels with snow. I am betting nothing in between.
  21. Good grief! 242 brush fires in the state in the last 2 weeks ! Helped evac one farm in the path of the newest one yesterday, and am now on standby for 2 other farms, one likely to need it if the wind picks up and one that should be fine but wanted an evac plan in place just in case.
  22. Now I got that song stuck in my head! "Momma said there'll be days like this, days like this momma said momma said momma said..."
  23. The lack of water is just as destructive. The reservoir by the barn is so low you can see the stumps of trees removed during the construction 20 yrs ago, some 100 ft off the usual shoreline. We are under red flag restrictions meaning no outdoor fires of any sort, including bbq's. Fire hazard is not what you northerners dealt with not too long ago, but our forest fire service has been hopping this fall.
  24. Was 50/50 in our house. 2 kids, a boy and a girl.
