Thank you very much for the marvelous analysis of the story, Mr. Benus! It's very heartening to me those details came together and you could see them. I've thought about this story for a long time. I got a Christmas ornament that was a rocking horse and it brought everything together. I could see Adam dragging the toy across the tile and could hear Glen grousing about it. Things came together from there. It was a labor of love. Thank you!

They did have a nice, long life together. There is something to be said that it isn't really overall sad. They are still together. Thanks for the comment.

Thanks for the wonderful review. I never thought of the rocking horse as being a Citizen Kane object, but it is. That's a really good point. I appreciate it.

Thanks for such a kind review. I too have had family with Alzheimer's. It hurts to watch them struggle as their minds keep losing things. I wanted a something for Glen to hold onto for a little while longer.

Thanks for such a glowing, wonderful review. I'm glad you enjoyed the story. People struggle with this situation. I had a grandparent and an aunt who both suffered from dementia. It's heartbreaking.

Thank you so much. It was difficult to tell the story and yet convey how much Glen struggled with memory. I was blessed with a good beta reader and editor who helped me a lot.

I'm a sucker for everyday-man stories and this one was a touching one. Great job and a couple of interesting characters to boot.

I loved the thought and care you had creating the main character. The details about his hearing and his work at the center really gave us a round, full picture of him. You can't help but want him to find love because he's so real and genuine. Great job!!!

That was sweet and quite interesting. I loved the concept the angels could harm with falling in love as well as bless. I also liked two angels falling in love.

    Story

Hearing the runners scrape across the kitchen’s tile floor woke me from my nap. I could hear Adam drag the stupid rocking horse from the garage towards the family room. My dear partner of forty-odd years was beginning to lose it. He was acting so strange some days; talking to people who weren’t there, forgetting things, and even seeing things. I was worried about him. I got out of my chair pressing downwards on my cane. As my hips groaned and my back creaked with pain, I felt each and every
  16. Adam and Glenn are getting ready for their annual Valentine's party. However, some memories are making it a more poignant event than they had planned. Join them in remembering how special a childhood toy can be even after many years.

Thanks for the review. Yeah, it's kind of disappeared now, but my father and grandmother have very fond memories of friends dressing up and asking for treats. According to my grandmother, they would ride a horse drawn sleigh when she was a kid. Thanks for the wonderful review!
  19. Here is my impression, it's a very scary place you've taken us. It felt stuck, both physically and emotionally. The red door opened and I'm not sure it's a place I want to go, but I'm not sure there is a choice at that point. Quite interesting.
  20. I won't belabor my own affinity for A Cook's Tale since I've rambled on about it before. However, Mann's work has some important themes I really enjoy sampling again and again. He presents gay men as part of an overall social fabric without being considered something different. I find that a refreshing and an interesting take. I know I struggle with showing that point of view. He does so without effort and I appreciate his perspective. Mann also writes description in a way that is clean and yet gives the reader enough to picture the scene. The balance he's able to achieve is quite remarkable. That's my two cents. If you haven't read Mann's work, you need to get busy. His writing is a joy and gives us plenty of food for thought.
  21. Really enjoyed the dream sequence. It was moving and quite powerful. You handled it brilliantly by having his non-reaction immediately following awakening. Great way to show it isn't new. I liked the effect it had on this chapter's tone.

    The Pact

Really well done. The service as payment idea was interesting since usually it's something taken, not helping others. I thought your imagery was very effective. Great job!!! It was very scary.
  24. I loved Seven Swans so much. I'll have to check these out. Always up for some good storytelling!!! Thanks Albert!

I heard about it from my family. It still happens in some communities. Kissing a big, study goat boy would be fun!
