  2. Stay tuned to this spot. Currently I cannot do the weekly update as I have a caching issue. I'm lucky to get this far. Thank you all for being patient with this horrible bug; Myr is working diligently to track it down every day since that last IP update. 3. We are nearly half way through the summer and you know what that means for North American people... Back to Skewl!! I guess that is dependent on if you are a student of some level or if you are a working stiff like me Believe it or not, up to a few years ago I was under the impression that the primary and secondary education all over the continent was basically from the beginning of September until the following June. How wrong I was . From what I understand, some of the southern US they head back to school around this time of year and go to around May and then get out. I guess when you have grown up your entire life doing something one way, you forget easily that others might not do it the same way! So here is my question since we have a worldwide audience, what is basically the school year in your next of the woods? If you don't want to say you live in Mississippi (I love spelling that state), you can say the deep south of the US. If there is a difference between primary and secondary, let us know too. I'm sure the people that live south of us in the other hemisphere have a totally different schedule than the North. What about Germany, Sweden, UK, France or elsewhere in Europe? Do you live in SE Asia or maybe the Caribbean? What about you? We had a great week here at the GA News Blog this week. Anytime we have a author promotion it is an exciting time!! Monday our Review Team, @spike382 in particular did a great new review. Hope you get a chance to check the story out: Tuesday was the big day I was alluding to. Make sure you check out @northie's promotion to Signature and drop off a congrats: On Thursday, our Anthology Coordinator, @Valkyrie came in and gave us some tips on the difference of proofreading versus editing. Please note you have to September 1st to get in this years special anniversary Anthology entries!! Friday we had @Aditus present a 'short winded' edition of prompts. Check them out: Finally on Saturday, we were all attracted to a great new writing article by @Comicality: Although we did have some caching issues here at GA over the week, know that Myr is diligently working to get this resolved, he also was busy providing us with a Word of the Day: catchpole, pilgarlic, rictus, inviolable, acumen, neologism, evanescent Anthologies, Writing Challenges, and Contests 2022 Anthology - Anniversary - Submitted to @Valkyrie for the proof team by Sept. 1, 2022 Blog Opportunities Ask an Author 3.0: Send in 3 questions that you would like your favourite story's author to answer for you. 4. I guess Enos was the deputy that would be the one to go arrest the Duke boys for not paying their debts to the county. I don't think that ever happened as Rosco P. Coltrane could never issue a ticket to the Dukes!
  5. Congratulations northie!!! Your stories are what helps make GA a better place. Your participation all over the site in different topics, forums and blogs is what makes you stand out even more. Enjoy your new status, well deserved!
  6. This story reviewed by @spike382 has piqued my interest. I think I might start reading today. Hoping that this review entices you to read it as well. A New Family Unit by Ajbt2001 Reviewer: spike382 Status: Complete Word Count: 20,574 Here on GA, I am always on the lookout for story content from authors I haven’t read before. As an aside, I’m personally looking for content outside the paranormal thriller/romance genre that has gained immense popularity on the site in the last couple of years. So just recently I ran across this story by Ajbt2001, who joined our little community just a few years ago, but already has a number of finished stories published here. In a New Family Unit, two single gay fathers with teenage gay sons are living in a duplex together. Sheer proximity, and attraction binds all of them together. The two fathers Sam and Taylor quickly begin dating. Their sons, Cillian and Devon, who also share an attraction, opt for getting to know each other and becoming friends first. Moving from the opening, the story is very much in the title a newly forming family unit of these four living together. However, it isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. The story does have its conflicts, with some surprising past connections, and darkness from the past resurfacing in the present. I will say, it’s not entirely a perfect story, as a lot it feels like too much too soon. The two boys, who are 14, often times feel like much younger characters. Also, each character could use a more distinctive voice and personality. That all being said, it’s a fun little tale of romance and the journey of building a new family. It’s an easy read at only nine chapters, and it’s bound to put a smile on your face. Category: Fiction Genres: Romance Sub-genres: General Romance Tags: teen, mature adult, adult. gay, under 18, light-hearted, serious, love Rating: Mature
  7. I'm back from the wilds of the Rockies Had a great time with my nephews for the 7 days. Lots of mountain biking, took a gondola to the top of Mount Sulphur and then walked the 400 steps up to and back from the summit. Hit the Banff Hot Springs. Another day swam in an old quarry that has been filled with water and turned into a park. We even had a bit of a issue with a black bear on the last day of camping Kind of wish we had a little blue one to deal with instead. Kind of looking forward to getting back to work so I can relax . What about you all, I know some you have taken some holidays already and some have more to come? Whatcha going to do? That is if the heat won't cancel any of your plans . I want to thank @Myr and @Cia for combining together to get the wrap up done in stages. This past Monday, Cia brought us our August CSR Feature. Don't think I've read this one so I will put it in my August to do list Wednesday Aaron asked, and you delivered!! Enjoy this month's episode of AAA 3.0: Thursdays was time to get your engines started if not already and press the pedal to the metal to get your Anthologies in. @Valkyrie gave @Carlos Hazday's view on how to market your Anthology: Friday, Val was back with some interesting prompts. The second one might be challenging to someone like me who likes to talk on, and on, and on, and on... Saturday, we had another interesting writing tip article from Comicality on Weight and Impact: I know last week that Cia brought you the final week of July, so I thought I would put up how we are doing on our yearly goal too!! 8. Whew, getting this in by the hair of my chinny chin chin Even though I'm fair haired (in the summer my hair turns strawberry blond), I know I burn, and I do everything possible besides wearing a snowsuit, touque, and ski goggles in 30 C weather, but I still am burnt to hell tonight I mean, about a hour before I went out I took a shower and rubbed in a generous supply of SPF 30 Sport and then waited 10 mins and sprayed on SPF 50 Sport. Went down to my vehicle 5-10 mins later and put on some Deep Woods Off, ( think I saw a mosquito flying off with a small dog the other day ), and thought I was prepared for everything! Had a ball cap on and polarized sunglasses. Looking at myself in the mirror tonight the whole face and neck and ears are red except the eyes and top of the forehead. I now have a great farmers burn happening on the arms, and my one leg is red from the bottom of my shorts to the tip of my toes. Well the parts that were not covered by the sandal. Maybe I should wear my florescent green prosthetic leg tomorrow to see what kind of reactions I will get with the contrasting colours I took a cooler shower this evening so I'm not in too much pain at the moment, but not really looking forward to bed . How about you? I know everyone should be protecting themselves from the evil sun and not getting burnt or ever really... getting tanned. Are you a natural tanner, are you a burner? What SPF do you wear, if you wear it? Now onto the Wrap Up. We had a hot week not only outside, but here as well! Monday was one of my favourite days of the month. I get to take the graphic and put it into my signature. Nice to support with a call out to our Classic Authors: That left Wednesday for the Classic Author Excerpt. Did it motivate you to read the story? Thursday, Valkyrie looked back at a sometimes oft overlooked category of Anthologies, but are very much a part of the site: Cole Matthews stepped in this week for the Prompt Team to give us some real summer themed ideas! 9. Middle of July, so what should we talk about? What the heck, why not weather! I'm curious how things are shaping up in your neck of the woods as far as the weather goes. In my hometown, it is Stampede week, and mother nature has so far cooperated. I don't think in the past 8 days we have had any rain. Temps have been around 30 C (86 F). This is too hot in my humble opinion. I know some areas of the world are having record breaking temps like Europe and elsewhere, so my heart goes out to them. Now for all of you in the southern States and other hot climates, don't you be calling us wimps over the 30 C weather, unless you want to come up here in -40 C/F weather and see how you make out where everyone up here continues on more or less like normal Well enough of the weather channel, let's move on to the GA News Channel Monday, the Review Team gave us a great new story to either read right away, or put onto our reading list: We took a 2 day break until Wednesday this week, where Valkyrie asked us about the 781 published Anthologies on site Friday, Aditus was in to represent the Prompt Team with another 2 new prompts for us all: Saturday was the conclusion of our broadcasting week and Comsie stopped by with a new Writing Article: I think I missed the words of the day last week in the wrap up Bad Steve, Bad Well here is this weeks: eradicate, envisage, orgulous, steganography, saguaro, cacography, lollygag Here is our weekly check in on where we are on the monthly Reading Goals half way through the month: Anthologies, Writing Challenges, and Contests 2022 Anthology - Anniversary - Submitted to @Valkyrie for the proof team by Sept. 1, 2022 Blog Opportunities Ask an Author 3.0: Send in 3 questions that you would like your favourite story's author to answer for you. 10. I too have read some of Nephylim's stories, but don't think I've read this one. The review is making me think I need to go check it out .
  11. Well what has our Review Team been doing? Reviewing Let's see what they shall entice us to read in July. Damphir by Nephylim Reviewer: Aditus Status: Complete Word Count: 61,147 A werewolf called Rover, a cat who can fly (among other things), a confused vampire, a spiteful faery, and a testy human are all confined in the same house and trying to learn to live together. A strange mix (and a strange story). After reading this story description I was instantly interested. I mean what could go wrong with this, right? So much or so little. At first, I had a little difficulty getting into the story, probably because of how beautifully the cold was described, and I hate the cold. I sway as I pass through the gate and catch myself on one of the ornate iron gateposts. It is so cold it burns. I examine the delicate tracery of featherlike frost flakes on the dull black metal. It is too pretty to comprehend. I touch the patterns and the heat in my fingers is barely enough to melt the frost. For a time, I am frozen, caught in the frosted winter night... The housemates’ getting-to-know-each-other phase is as temperamental as expected. Fur, fists, and words fly. The main characters drove me crazy, to be honest. I loved Sar even when I was pulling my hair out at his stupidity, or for being so very vampy. (In his words: I’m used to being an arrogant thoughtless bastard.) And Glory? We all know cats are multi-personality beings, well he is pushing the limits. The side characters are well-developed, so much so that you’ll want to know more, and want some of them to have their own story. Cuddly Rover, Fougue the calming influence, Pixie the not-so-nasty faery. Or Valentine the villain. It’s good there’s more. Pussy Cat Pussy Cat I found Damphir about the same time I found GA. I realized later how much of this story stayed with me, since even today I remember parts of it. I hope you’ll love it as much as I do. Heed the warning. 12. Well howdy partner Yes, it is that time of the year that all the cowboys and cowgurls come out of the woodwork in Calgary for the annual Stampede. So far after 2 days things are huge! No restrictions and everyone seems to be having a good time! I've been down at the grounds for the past two nights and there is lots to see, people to see and people to do Oops, did I say that out load So for public engagement, if you are willing to reveal where you live; city, town or country, is there one BIG party, festival, or event that brings in tons of people and you have a great time at? I'm thinking the Texas State Fair, the PNE an CNE in Vancouver and Toronto. Octoberfest in Germany. So what about where you are? What time of the year should I come for a visit . If anyone suggests Buffalo in January for the Bill's run for the Superbowl, I think I will skip (I think I will hear about this one ). We had a busy week here at the GA Blog Here is that week in review. Monday, Cia introduced us a new story to read at our pleasure for the Can't Stop Reading feature: Wednesday was a special addition of AAA. 14. A belated happy birthday to all the folks up in Canada that had Canada Day on the 1st of July. And an early happy birthday to the folks down in the US of A that have Independence Day on Monday Can't forget Burundi Independence Day on July 1st, Ghana Republic Day on July 1st, Territory Day in the British Virgin Islands also on the 1st, Philippine's Republic Day on the 4th, and Rwanda Liberation Day on the 4th. Now the question is, do you live in one of these countries other than Canada or the US? I spent the past week up in Invermere at a cabin, on the lake, in the mountains and had great weather. I also had to do quite a bit of work. If anyone is handing out free back massages, I'll be at the front of the line . It is actually hard to believe the 1/2 of 2022 is gone already. Monday, Cia had the CSR Discussion Day for our featured story for June: On Thursday, Valkyrie was in to set up for our Anniversary Anthology coming up! 15. In North America we are a week a way from celebrating two of the three county's big parties. July 1st is Canada Day, and July 4th is Independence Day. After two years of shut downs, I imagine lots and lots of people are looking forward to letting loose for a day or two. Myself, I'm heading up to a lake and relaxing and enjoying the first days of summer What sucks is that I have to do some coverage for a boss that is away too, so I'll be logging on the laptop each day for hopefully only an hour to run some reports. Hopefully not too much. I guess I should see if I can get someone cover me next Saturday night, the day after Canada Day for the Wrap Up. Volunteers? Oh, just thought I'd throw this in, it is 10:45 PM and still some light to the West. More or less dusk. I like the long summer days! Then the sun will be up again in 6 hours. Imagine living way up north and having 24 hour sunlight! So before we get underway, once again a reminder to everyone to fill out Myr's quick poll! You'd be helping us to see what you would like going forward on the various GA Blogs on the site. To start things off this week, I wanted to bring everyone's attention to our story goals. We are getting so close to completing all the story goals this month. Some goals have been blown past already. Let's put our effort into getting us over the finish line in a lot of different categories Our week got started off with a great new Classic Author Feature. It was nice to see the number of comments that this great story brought out: Then on Wednesday, Cia came back with a Classic Author Excerpt on the same story: On Thursday, if you missed the Grammar Guide, it was because we are on a summer hiatus Friday, the Prompt Team came in and gave us two themes that should call out to your inner author, or at maybe it will call out to your stomach Saturday was a little switch up in our normal programming week as well. 16. Isn't country music more or less palinodes Step 1. Write an ode or song about the love of your life Step 2. Write your country western song of how everything in your life has gone to shit a few years later! (runs and hides from our C&W fans)
  17. Remember Y2K? That was to be a massive glitch that would bring the world as we knew it come to an end. Guess that never happened
  18. I LOVED this story when it came out, hitting the refresh button repeatedly to see if a new chapter came out The characters are so well developed it would be like you could insert yourself into a scene I should give it a read again.
  19. I read a joke in Chapter 5 of Dabegal's new story House of Frost the other day from @weinerdog: Q: What do gay horses eat? Okay, if you have stopped your uncontrollable laughter or maybe your uncontrollable groans, I want to mention that I think that falls in what people now refer to as 'Dad Jokes'. So here is the question for this week and what better time to do it than on Father's Day 2022, what is your best Dad Joke? Or maybe your worst ? Add them to the comments below and we will see what we will get Everyone, if you could also check out the quick poll being done by Myr, it would be totally helpful and give us an idea of how things are going. Seriously, took under 20 seconds for me to answer! Onto the Wrap up for the week at the GA News Blog. 22. Hey all! Our Review Team put their heads together and came up with a great review of an author who is also our CSR author for the month as well Make sure to enjoy both and let us know what you thought. CDMX by Carlos Hazday Reviewer: chris191070 Status: Complete Word Count: 139,904 Three years after Carlos concluded the CJ story, he returns with this new story which starts to fill in the gaps. We follow CJ, Ozzie and Liebe as CJ takes a job at the US Embassy in Mexico, he's still fairly new to his job, as he only been graduated from Georgetown for just over a year. His boss Northam immediately takes a dislike to CJ, because of his life outside the Embassy, where he his helpful in some setting up some major projects both in Mexico and USA. Of course the Ambassador takes an instant liking to CJ. We meet a lot of familiar faces in this story and a few new characters. As with all CJ stories there are plenty of holidays, which are well described. There is plenty of drama, happiness, sadness and a dramatic conclusion to this story. I look forward to the return of CJ, Owen, Liebe and family and friends. 23. @Valkyrie, every time someone is eating.
  24. You know what Dodger, no matter the time between chapters you have created such memorable characters and storyline, each new chapter is like I read the previous one the day before. A very impressive skill that you should take pride in Now with this chapter, I wish the boom was lower to the deck and the sail went up while in the harbour, although I would never wish any harm to come to Robbie, it would have been probably better for him if it had knocked him overboard by accident and he just swam back to the dock. I may agree and disagree with Robbie needing to control his anger. I think after the pastor started the heavy handed shit with Robbie, Robbie fell to his defense mechanisms, anger and being a smart ass. If anything, you cannot deny that when he uses these anyone including Don and the pastor lose their defenses and really, lower themselves to the level that Robbie is trying to pull them down to on an even level with him. It is then when they say and show emotion of how much hate and disgust they have in what Robbie stands for by being true to himself. It also encourages for Robbie to be careful, especially now that the pastor was tempting him with a path of less resistance, to realize that he is on the right path of his life no matter how many bigoted, homophobe adults he will encounter. Thanks again Dodger for sharing with us
  25. I'm glancing out my window and in my neck of the woods the saying it correct: June showers bring July flowers Seriously, we are out of the periodic snow now and after a dry first bit of the month, we are getting some rain. Can you believe we are nearly at the summer solstice in North America? Tonight, dusk was around 10:15. I always like to be camping at this time of year, so you can have a fire going late into the night after a long day of fun! Not sure how many of our members fall in the category of Neo-Druids or Pagans and celebrate at Stonehenge, but is there anything that you like to do on the longest day of the year? Oh, if you our one of our many Southern Hemisphere peeps, what do you do for the shortest day of the year? Now for our look back on the week! Monday, Cia was in with an all new CSR feature for the month! First Wednesday of the month, you know what that means... Shall we look at the Grammar Guide this week? It's all about its apostrophes and more: Friday, the Prompt Team got us thinking about the summer solstice, and how to turn that into a great little prompt response: That just left us Saturday for Comicality to close the regular scheduled program week at the GA Blog: Word, words, words, did you learn anything new this week? I did anchorite, jubilate, donnybrook, taradiddles, flibbertigibbet, asseverate, flout And our goals are a going as we close onto the middle of the month: And here is the look at the past weeks postings on all our Authors and Poets!
