I was wondering the same thing, but think it was earlier in time. $17,000 a year doesn’t seem that much in the eighties and also the comment about the pay phone and dimes. I think we went to quarters in the early eighties. It does also sound like a Vietnam vet, but very few Canadians went to the States to enlist in the US military to fight in Vietnam, we weren’t there as a country if I recall correctly. But time wise, mid seventies would be correct. Anywho, I’m intrigued looks like this will be an interesting tale. Not sure if I’m willing to judge any characters after one chapter.

I saw it on the front page of a paper, how Camila was falling asleep and looked bored as hell at the opening ceremonies Sadly, I think the North America media is focused on North American sport, and since it is the Commonwealth Games, it doesn't make the sports cycle. Ever try to find a football (soccer) game on non premium sports channels in North America?

I'll admit, I'm a mess today I think by talking about this might help me a bit. I grew up playing hockey, I played hockey up to my accident a few years ago. Anyone, hockey or any sport, dreams of continuing to play to the upper levels of their sport and possibly up to and into the professional leagues. Hockey, maybe different than other sports, has many ways to go onto the professional leagues. Kids start hockey young in Canada and I'm sure in many other countries too. As you progress though age groups, you then make it to Bantam where the best of the best move into what are tiered leagues, AA, AAA and then that is where scouts start to watch. Some go onto Junior A teams that spot across Canada sea to sea. Not just local kids but ones that have come from far and wide. Parents in the local communities open their houses up and billet 1 or 2 kids for up to 6 years I believe where they grow and become young men playing for their towns hockey team and are a major part of their communities. What comes with junior hockey is travel, and not the travel of having a plane ride or big money sponsorship and boosters making it easier. To make it fair, all teams must travel by the team bus. To keep expenses in check, teams will have a athletic therapist or a manager or someone who does something on the team and also drives the bus. Last evening, 29 members of the Humboldt Junior A Broncos were heading north on a 2 lane primary highway to Nipawin for game 3 of the 5 game playoff series they were in. At an intersection of a secondary highway, a tractor trailer unit slammed into the bus with players, coaches and other team staff, ripping apart the bus. 14 died on scene, another one died today. The other 14 are in hospital, some in critical condition, some having parents rushing from all across the prairies with notice of their kids not being able to feel their limbs. So much tragedy in mere seconds. This isn't the first tragic accident in sports, but maybe one of the largest. I can't turn off the TV, and I have been sobbing at different times. I don't know why in particular this opposed to other mass deaths. Could it be the fact that my connection and Canada's connection to hockey. Watching grown men and women who aren't connected to Humboldt, Saskatchewan or Canada shedding tears and feeling the pain is sometimes too moving. Thoughts and prayers are coming in from around the world, from world leaders like Donald Trump and Theresa May have echoed those of the thousands of other people reaching out to the players, the families, the team members, the town of Humboldt, the first responders and all those touched by this tragedy. Donations too, in under 14 hours, over 1 million has been raised by a GoFundMe page. The NHL (National Hockey League) has a full line up of games tonight and each game will pay tribute to the tragedy and moments of silence. Boxer briefs I believe Thanks for rushing back to the Homeland and giving us a new chapter Dodger , it is appreciated! I thought Robbie was a much better person in this chapter, not as much as a prat (hope that is the right word) as he was the previous one. So what changed? He found Alex in his house and had some alone time with him, that is what changed I really want to see how drunk Ginny gets Daniel and if there will be consequences to Daniel AND Robbie for it happening. It would be a true indicator of if both brothers are treated the same. Oh, and Droughtquake stirred a memory for me, could Principle Andrews be related or worked closely to the retired social worker, Walter. Possibly Walter told Mr. Andrews to keep an eye out for him.

I loved rereading New Brother by @Graeme, well worth the second read! Also enjoying The Harbinger by @Cia. Now I guess I should start in on The Hallow Halls Hills by @Valkyrie, but she keeps stealing my and distracting me from more reading! So I was laughing just as hard as Robbie and Tom at Herbert and Ethel (hopefully no Herbert's and Ethel's here ) I don't understand why so many people felt Robbie was justified in his little temper tantrum, and if you had one Dodger, you should be ashamed of yourself!!! Who hasn't been thrown in the pool at a party? No one made him take off all his clothes but his briefs! I really don't understand why he could be so pissed at Nicole? Everyone knew she wouldn't have him not take his briefs off. The only humiliation Robbie felt was what he brought on himself by his stupidity I'm too curious about Palm Springs. When I think of Palm Springs I think if Gay Clubs and Nudist resorts. Not sure if Niagara has all that . I imagine there will be a lot of beats coming Robbie's way now that Alex has arrived. Will Alex be joining them? So far we have Don, Robbie, Daniel, Nathan, Rory, Tom going to Niagara, will there be room for Alex too? I really don't think Alex will do anything to give Robbie away, mainly because it would mean he would be outing himself to everyone else. I'm more worried about Robbie outing Alex to everyone, that will not be good. Thanks for sharing Dodger and sorry for responding so late.

It took me about 3 1/2 years Can't remember how long it took to publish it, but @C James did an amazing job of giving us a chapter every week, even when he was on holidays ironically on a boat going across the Atlantic , twice!! The torture of all the cliffhangers when you couldn't read the next chapter as one ended, was even more excruciating than any other story that he has written. Funny thing is you wanted more on the good chapters, as well as the tense filled ones.

Ah, this was better than I expected I wondered how Nathan would react and the fact that he was going to the airport with Don, Robbie and Daniel had me a bit worried. Nathan did great in all ways. The fact that Don couldn't really say much about the lipstick was icing on the cake I think that Nathan's observations of Tom and Tom's own dialogue are true about him maybe playing for their team now. Hopefully both Tom and Robbie don't experiment to see where that goes, although they are 16 y/o boys after all. I think that would be too devastating for Nathan. Interesting as well that Alex wasn't mentioned in this chapter too. Should be interesting if Robbie feels guilty enough to tell Tom about Alex and that he revealed Tom and his secret to Alex as well. Since I understand that Alex will be moving into the upstairs bedroom soon, should be an interesting week Now, trying to remember all how is going to Niagara... Is it Daniel, Nathan, Tom, Robbie and is Rory coming as well? Maybe Daniel will have Rory with them so he isn't the only hetero guy other than Don As always Dodger, thanks for sharing

I too read the Vegas Trilogy and everything else by Jack Scribe. He was one of my favourite authors on the site when I first started lurking here. I loved the intertwined storyline of the dark underside and the characters in this story in particular. I highly recommend reading this story and the series! So sad that we lost Jack a while back Jack was a great author, a philanthropist and a patron of the arts and choose GA to support and share his stories with. I truly miss him

Posted my comments and then went back and read everyone else's I"m wondering.... they are all heading to Niagara for Robbie's bday, and Sue shut down Robbie from adding in one more person to the trip, and a certain person suggested another person might be coming to celebrate with them in Niagara. Wondering if Sue permitting Robbie to spend the night at Nathan's right before the trip will allow for the logistics of the real surprise from happening

Robbie is sooo lucky that Sue only increased her pressure of putting lotion on his back . The fact that him and Nicole can give the gears to Daniel with his mother in the room and have Daniel take it in stride is nothing but good news of the current state of affairs. Now the whole naked Daniel and Nathan on Skype is another story If nothing, it confirms that Robbie and Daniel are back to being best buds again. Really, when you think of it, Daniel reacted better to walking in on Nathan and Robbie than when Robbie came out. The fact that Alex has now caught Robbie and Nathan as well as Daniel having sex, I'm wondering if their close encounters may soon have serious consequences . So far it hasn't been any adults to walk in on them. Like the others, I'm curious exactly how Nathan and Alex know each others. The comment about verbal bullying is a very true thing. Someone who is subjected to verbal abuse for long periods of time I believe is susceptible to mental health issues too. I hope that Alex is understating what happened and Nathan is exaggerating a bit. The truth is somewhere in the middle but even some verbal abuse is not cool. And it isn't out of the realm that there was verbal abuse but physical nurturing Did you add this in Dodger because I said that Nathan revealed he is a virgin to Robbie. Bad Dodger, bad!! Next, the fact that Alex showed up at an inopportune time is showing that maybe Alex is more attached to Robbie than we think. Maybe not physically or emotionally, but he knows that Robbie and his family can be trusted. Although he didn't want to reveal it was his dad and have the police called, he trusted everyone there to go though it. Having Robbie lipping off to Alex as he is in the back of the ambulance and Alex trying to chirp back had me in stitches . The fact that Robbie is willing to take his beats in the future for the fun in the present ended this chapter in a great way. Now, really, the whole chapter had a easy going, great feeling and no stress, except maybe Nathan and Robbie getting caught, but that was funny The thing that I noticed was everyone was in this chapter is good and everything is going good and well, which means only one thing Don wasn't mentioned and I'm sure the next chapter will have us all mad as hell. Personally i think the unexpected visitor will be a hung over and angry Don coming to get Robbie and finding him in bed with Nathan As for the Nathan/Alex thing, Nathan said he has never done anything with another guy. I also don’t see Alex as the type of guy to just be friends with the only out guy at school. not too much. just picture about 8 teenage boys sitting around a campfire with our shirts off and tossing needles at each others stomachs from a distance. Nothing too drastic but you made sure you covered your junk in case of a low flying needle For some reason our camp counselors who weren't diabetics and never really dealt with them before were somewhat horrified

I'm glad that both of you have choose to accept and adapt your lives to live with Diabetes. It is never easy to adapt when we get past our teens and we are told our world is going to be turned upside down. Having been diabetic since I was 3 1/2, I always consider myself a little bit luckier since I grew up with it and have benefited with the improvements over the years. When I was diagnosed, I had to pee in a cup, put a tablet in a test tube, drop 5 drops on urine on it and compare to a chart. This would only tell you how much sugar you were passing about 3-4 hours after the fact. I had a glass syringe that was stored in alcohol and used disposable needles that were about 2 inches long Then we went to urine pee strips compared on a colour chart, then blood testing on strips on a colour chart, then we got meters. Meters got better and better but this fall I finally got a interstitial fluid blood testing system, aka, no blood needed you just hold a meter to a sensor on your arm. The reason I bring this all up is that it takes a strong person in my opinion to change your lifestyle after your teens. Your habits, your tastes, your lifestyle is usually set by the time you hit 18. Too many times I have calls from wives or husbands or parents of friends that say their other has been diagnosed with Type 2. I have also had to attend funerals of too many of them that decided that it was easier to just continue what they have done their whole life . I think many diabetes educators have encountered too many adults that just don't care. For those that want to change and have the drive to change, I think they unfortunately get short changed. All of you, keep up your monitoring and improvements in your lifestyles and you will be around a long long long time to come Also talking and sharing is great. I still have most of my friends I made while growing up and going to Diabetic Camp from age 8-16. Be nice and I will tell you all about darts around the campfires

Thanks Tim You know, you bring up a really good point that honestly in the forum reviews when it posted and since, nobody has made the observation. And the shocking thing is I agree with you I will need to keep that in mind for the furture Thanks Timothy! I do appreciate the review. I know I said in the blog that I tried to write a story where you make assumptions as you are reading with a reveal at the end that would make you go back and read, and I really hope I did do that I do have a penchant of ending my few stories with a death Maybe time to try for a different ending. Thanks Gary! This review is really nice and makes me think I might have to try something again, just without a death . Obviously the key of the story was to be told through the father's eyes. Sometimes I messed up, but luckily @viv helped out immensely with those slip ups. I guess that is what we all can really hope for, that what we leave behind is enough to those that love us to give a pause and think about what you shared

So instead of talking about a movie you have seen, what about a movie that is coming out? Krista brought my attention to this upcoming movie. Looks like a major studio put some bucks into this one and releasing to the US market So Krista mentioned it is based off a book. So a quick search directed to me to Simon vs.the Homo Sapiens Agenda. You know when I’m writing a blog it usually means that we need to discuss a direction the site is headed in or recent issues on-site. First off, let me start by saying the site’s administrators and moderators are all personally very supportive of freedom of speech. The stories contained in our archive, for example, still run afoul of the laws in many countries where gay and erotic literature is deemed obscene and pornographic. But even a commitment on our part to free speech must inevitably be balanced against certain constraints necessary to keep the site online and build an inclusive community where all are welcome. I’m sure most are aware of how GA is funded, but I'll review for those that are not. When Myr first started the site, he covered the costs out of his own pocket. Needless to say that was a long, long time ago. And as the site grew over the last fifteen years, and boy did it ever, GA had more and more costs. Those costs became unmanageable for one, or even five or six people to shoulder themselves. Thoughts were bounced around to do pledge drives, much like a certain Wiki organization regularly does. Luckily, in the end we were able to weigh the advantages, and the cash, that Google AdSense can provide to the site. This allowed us to continue to remain completely free by including advertising on the site rather than having pledge drives to pay the expenses. Eventually costs soared and we had to re-evaluate our funding choices again, and that’s when we came up with the Premium membership option. This still makes 98% of the site free to all members. In our opinion, this was a win-win scenario as the site remained online with the combined funding and our Premium members get to read stories that would otherwise not be available on-site. As I mentioned earlier, there are constraints imposed upon the site by participating in the Google AdSense program. Google often changes their policies and decides what content, or speech if you like, is allowed to exist on sites that carry their advertisements. We must therefore make certain trade-offs at times and implement new policies to protect the site’s primary revenue stream so that we remain in Google’s good graces and also do what’s right for our community. We had a discussion going on in a topic recently which involved some words that included, and this is my summary, racial slurs and vulgar terms. I don’t think I need to spell them out or obfuscate the words by replacing the letters with ***s. Think of words that you probably hear in everyday speech or maybe in movies. Words that most wouldn’t use in polite company. These words now have a filter on them that will not allow the post to be public unless it is approved by one of our moderators. So if you are typing up a post, and it doesn’t immediately appear, it might be because of the language within the post. I must thank the people who were involved in that topic for working with us to get their posts edited in a way that meets these standards. Personally, myself, I have issues with racial slurs or racially hateful names/labels, and bigoted and sexist language. I also realize that others don’t see this speech as an issue and get upset at the idea of not being able to freely use it. I know here at GA, we strive to be an inclusive community where our guests and members feel welcome, and some of our site’s visitors include minority groups that might feel targeted by this language. Why would we want to be a place that openly welcomes and supports members of any sexual orientation or gender expression, but in turn have racially hateful language making them feel like a minority within a minority? One member shared with me his own experience that there are some major ethnic groups that feel like ‘gay groups’ can be as alienating, if not more so, by their language and derogatory slang used to refer to them. Is this really what we want for GA? I do realize that maybe certain words are used in your circle of friends, or maybe within your family or your area of the globe, but that doesn’t justify their use on this site. If we had someone join and find a fair bit of language that they find hateful, what does that say about us as a community? Do you want them to feel unwelcome? There are a few ways that we are allowing certain language which might be considered ‘real language’ by some to remain visible. In Stories, if you want to keep your characters real and you feel the only way to do that is to use language that you won’t find on Network TV, then you can do so—as long as the story is rated Mature. The Pit is also an area not open to Google AdSense so, if needed, these words will be permitted there as long as they are not being directed at others. Other than that though, we will be enforcing automatic filters going forward and not allowing certain words that I’m sure you all know to be used on our Forums. And, as always, if you are making a personal attack on someone using any language, this will be treated as a personal attack first and foremost. The next category to discuss is vulgar words. Without using the actual words or *** again, I will specify the slang use of a female’s vagina will not be allowed on-site except for the same guidelines as the racially-charged words above. I really don’t see how a conversation is made better by using this word. Once again, I realize this is only me, but in general it is not used in polite company. So what exactly does this mean going forward? If a restricted word is used in a post on-site, your post will not be seen and the moderation team by alerted to your post with the following warning: The Site Moderation Team will contact you and review that the post made contains a word that is not acceptable on our Forums and give you a copy of the post so you can modify and re-post it should you choose. If the post appears in the Pit it will be approved as long as it isn’t being used as a personal attack on someone. It will be up to you to determine if you will be posting again. I’m sure you can be creative enough without trying to get around the filters to get your point across. Unfortunately, if your creativity is just hiding the word with other symbols like ***, spelling or similar words that will sound out the word, they will be blocked too. There will be no warnings or punishment if you get a message of this nature for a post unless staff are forced to moderate a member’s posts repeatedly when it is clear they have been made aware of these rules. Remember, though, that Rules Lawyering is not allowed under the site rules already. Please understand that we are doing this entirely to protect not only our members who may be alienated by this language, but to protect the revenue that keeps the site online. Is it really worth losing the nearly 124,000,000 words entirely over the use of a few words? I encourage you to use this blog to discuss the issue now, instead of having to rehash it later. Can we just do it without the use of certain words?

This is turning into a bit of a romance/comedy, isn't it? the fact that Tyrone can wind up Andy so quick and then when Andy convinces himself that it is a good thing, Tyrone flips the page. I'm not sure if Tyrone even knows what he is doing to Andy, but Andy definitely does not. Nor does he know what he is doing to himself I wonder if Andy will be about to jizz when Jizz arrives? (did I say that in my out loud voice?) Needless to say this story is getting more interesting each and every chapter. I hope Andy tells Bob to go home soon and leave him there before Bob comes up stairs to find Andy and Tyrone in a compromising position. Also Dodger, I like to think of myself as a bit of an expert on cliffhangers, having lived through the posting of almost every second chapter by @C James, and yes my friend, this is certifiable as a Cliffhanger
