My city is kind of strange when it comes to Canada. We don't have a homophobia or bashing problem, but it is like being out and segregated isn't really that important to the gay community. We have one gay bar (well two if you count the one attached to the bath house) but used to have more until the owners of the one main bar started calling the fire department and liquor control board when they noticed a steep decline in their customers on the weekends. You can find sex shops on about every fourth block, well maybe not that many We used to have a large gay specific sex shop, Priape, which closed as well as the other ones in Canada when they were not allowed to sell poppers anymore by the government. They claim it was a staple for sales and profit. Where I said it isn't a big deal to be out and segregated, what I mean is that you find gay couples everywhere in the city. Be it at bars, restaurants, movies, whatever. Just don't need to be a 'gay' establishment.

I will always be a fan of your writing This was interesting as I learned a little bit more of you through it. Personally I am waiting for your sequel, and will patiently wait. The idea of a sequel to Price of Friendship sounds like a great idea too. Hopefully you have the time, the motivation and the inspiration to continue writing. I'm sure there are millions (okay, maybe an exaggeration, but who knows) out there that excited every time you post something new. Thanks for all that you give to your readers

Sorry about your loss Billy . Just over six years ago I was fighting with the same feelings. Why couldn't I cry over my Mother? It bothered me so much I spoke to my Doctor who suggested going to see a grief counselor. She suggested something that worked for me, so I am only suggesting it for you if you want to. Find a friend, usually better than a family member that you trust and let them know what you are doing. Ask them if you can tell them what your mother meant to you. If they are a true friend and worth your trust, they will understand what you are doing. Then, unlike a book, start talking about what she meant to you. Talk about the good and the bad. I'm sure more good will come out in the end. Try to explain how she shaped you growing up and what she always did to make you feel special. Don't follow an agenda or plan. Just let it come out as it does. Don't try to edit yourself, the emotion of the situation will carry you on fine. Think of the things and share the things that made her your mom. Be proud of her and let that reflect in what you are saying. Needless to say this worked for me. Ever since, I have to admit I now get a little emotional whenever talking about her, or even writing this. You will know when you need that good long cry. Just find someone that will listen and know they will support you through this. But Zombie is right, there is no rules. Do what feels right at the moment. Good luck (hug)

Yeah, that is what the critics of Google are saying too. The example was if your thermostat notices that your house is cool, maybe an ad will appear on your browser advertising sweaters. Too hot, maybe fans or air conditioners. Basically an invasion into your personal life at home and then gear advertising directed to the way you are currently living

Google, who bought out one of the largest companies who make remote access thermostats for your home and reworking it to work better with the android operating system, coincidentally released a document showing how they will be able to 'advertise' to even more people through the thermostats. Seems like the decisions are all based on making more money and flooding us with even more ads.

So is it just me, or are others going Yay Michael Sams, boo NFL? To be drafted at the bottom of the draft by a team that has nothing to lose, is more or less a vote of non confidence by all the teams of the league? To say that every defensive player of his division always got drafted in the first round and he is relegated to what was it, the 8th last player, sure doesn't show me much support from team owners and general managers/scouting staff. Doesn't matter how much you can claim the distraction as an excuse as numerous teams resign, sign players who life off the field is as big as what it is on the field. I do have to give St.Louis a thumbs up. Although it would be easy to criticize them for not taking Sams earlier, they at least snubbed the rest of the league and took him before it was too late. Mixed feelings on all of this I guess overall the feeling I'm left with is this is a great first step and hoping that he gets to opportunity to get all those sacks he is hoping for

I agree, the idea that something as rough and rugged as Australian Rules Football would start this is amazing. Possibly in future years there may be more teams involved than two. Nice story Graeme You did have me in stitches though with the platitude about other fish in the sea. I was talking about relationships with a psychologist and decided to use that platitude, but it came out as 'Well I know there is other fish out in the sea, I guess I just need to cast my rod out there until I get a nibble.' Some would say it was unprofessional, but we were both howling our heads off with laughter when I realized what I had just said and her smirking at me. You know it is funny, we think as gay men we know how hard it is to come out to your family and friends, but are we really any more prepared to deal with a child that may come out to ourselves? Interesting question and maybe an idea for a story
