    I was feeling silly, so I got this as a Hanukkah present for the MFT I see. I just love kinetic sand. I don't know what that stuff is, but it's fabulous for presents. Makes kids so freaking happy. Edit: I've read about people wildly misusing themed gift cards just for the heck of it... like drawing a line through "Congratulations on your new baby boy!" and writing "Happy Anniversary" under it. I've always wanted to do something like that at the holidays, but never worked up the courage.

    I don't know, I've noticed that when I'm cold my ass is colder to the touch than other clothed parts of me. (edit, er sorry, TMI) Also, the digger's still digging, right, so the ass is likely leaning against cold damp walls. Never actually heard this expression before though. Immigrant education!

    Every once in a while we do this bluff: show the other something we got for someone else, like, isn't this nice? I think your mom will really like it! but really we've actually gotten two of it, and the person who is being shown it is receiving one also. But it's risky.

    I think my natural state is wanting to know but Mr. Irri is all about the surprise, and if I guess, he'll actually return the present ahead of time. So I don't guess. Also, I'm still waiting for the puppy... I'm allllll about the crisp edges and the ribbons and the bows. I open them like that too. V. precisely.

    Oh my gosh, this IS a happy chapter. Thanks Sasha! I hope Ashlee has a good hand with the eyeliner though, it looks awful if it's not applied well.

    OMG. Dead 16 year olds. Hep C (was it Hep C)? Dinner guests bearing HIV tests. Lovely naps interrupted. Jonah being creepily flirtatious with the customers (never heard "buffet" used in quite that sinister a way before). I can't take this all this angst, Addy. I want my Michael And OMG, now HE'S been stolen by Chris! WAH!

    Aww, the description I've read of circuit parties sounded like fun! And this one sounded totally hellish. I guess the grass is always greener... Sigh. And Wes is a doofus, surely he should've known better! But it's nice that Angus had a chance to prove himself.

    Wh--- It seemed so utterly random, aditus, and it was so much fun to read! It started out so prosaic and then BAM! Why are the cats such different personalities? Is it because they are different kinds of guardians? How did Max get magical cat guardians in the first place? Are all cats magical guardians or just Maine Coons? Why does Loxis already have a cat door? What is an Other? Are all witches, sorry, magicians, sorry, warlocks, immortal and/or gay? Is there some kind of Advent significance to the tree ornaments? In case you can't tell, I loved it

    You know, I hope it's not just that I enjoy watching Rob suffer, but I like seeing him a bit chastened, angry and protective, rather than chattery, intrusive and tiresome. Rounds out his character a lot. Grounded for a month is a big deal... but then so is the hitting and the drinking! It could've been a HUGE issue if they had gotten caught.

    Huh. On the one hand, Sasha, I appreciate having a piece in this anthology that has a sad endng, and seeing a story of yours that doesn't end with the boys riding into the sunset --- because sometimes things don't work out and it's good to be able to tell those stories too. On the other, well, it's a bit sudden. One minute Tommie's sleeping over on the first date and the next he's moved to New York. We barely have time to register the loss, let alone understand what conflict would drive him away, if that's what's meant to have happened. I'd love to see another couple/three chapters about what happened in the relationship and whether it was supposed to trigger a change in Mal (tee hee, by the way, I was visualizing something very specific).

    Oh dear, this is awful. Well, I still hope Nate improves because it's not good for anyone to remain an unrepentant rapist. But boyfriend material, not so much. Poor Clem. I hope he recovers.

    There are no words adequate to praise this little gem. I just want you to know that you've made this toy-shopping suburban mom very, very happy. Every time someone posts something on Facebook about what they did with their Elf on the Shelf, I'm going to think about this story and be happy all over again.
