    Prompt 381

    Really nice, Val!

    Life & Hiatus

Your stories will be much missed! I hope you have a happy and successful 2015!
  3. I live on the peninsula between San Francisco and San Jose. I love it, and probably wouldn't change unless it was for a more "walkable" place. There are really few places more so in the US, though. I think at this point it's mostly a question of determination.

    Max Cauler

Really good, Ron, if more than a little bleak... Is there a significance to the location of the place where the ashes are scattered?
  5. Happy birthday! I hope you have a great year and a wonderful decade!!!

    Chapter 6

WOW. Ok, so the camping fun just ended, huh? I'm not sure how I feel about this development. On the one hand, the coincidence of Dan and Steven both secretly being in love with each other for quite a number of years seems a bit unlikely---but then these things do happen sometimes and it's possible that Dan wouldn't have felt so intensely about Steven if he hadn't picked up on Steven's own signals. But it's clear that Steven is an absolute mess... the violence is a really bad sign. Oh dear.
  7. YAY! That is so sweet. Roy gets his lovely problem child and both of them overcome the sadness and fears of the past, in front of all of their friends and family. And how sweet and generous of Hugo and Tyrell to share their wedding like that. Thank you for this lovely chapter, Cole. You've made me very gay

    Santa's Visit

D'awwww Who's a big sappy Christmas romantic then? For some reason I cracked up at, "Is that a hint of nutmeg?" If I were woken up by a guy in a Speedo demanding a cocktail I'm not sure I'd be as sweet as these guys...

    Warped

Wow! So, let's see... alternating lines of 1) iambic tetrameter and 2) a dactyl and then three iambs. I struggled a little bit with the sense of the first two lines of the 2nd stanza, but for a first shot, this is really superb. I am especially so impressed with the way you nestled the dactyl into a single word every time! But just generally, I think you've taken a very basic challenge and made a tour de force: this is a poem, not just an exercise.
  10. Gosh, he WAS tall--he's standing up in a clawfoot tub, right? I never enlarged the pic before and assumed he was lying encircled in someone's arms! I've got my dog all picked out: Shetland Sheepdog or a Pom or some related mix. Smart and energetic, not too big--we're fairly tiny people and the kids would get knocked over by a Lab puppy pretty easily.
  11. God, that sounds terrible, I'm so sorry. I hope you have many more years with Bortai. I feel the opposite way---I've been without a cat or dog for so long now (25 years) that, like Scarlett O'Hara, I don't ever mean to go without again once I have another opportunity. The babysitter's Pomeranian has trained the kids pretty well at this point... We just need to find the new place and we're good. No cats though--Mr Irri is allergic, which is a shame, because cats lurve him
  12. Huh. I wonder if you're more responsive than most humans and they just don't need to carry on as much as cats that have to compete for attention a lot?
  13. I'd give anything to have a Siamese. Is she a big talker?
  14. Gorgeous!
  15. Sad and complex, good for this ambivalent day. Thanks, Foster.
  16. Wow. This is incredibly good. Clear-eyed, compassionately observed, and written so cleanly. The detail of the youngest kid calling the narrator Daddy will probably stay with me forever. Sad and beautiful.

    Chapter 6

I... dunno. The idea of claiming you can't climb into a perfectly ordinary truck so that your guy will help you do it... ok, I guess? I mean, Ashlee certainly appears to know what makes Clem tick in terms of feeling needed and so on, so good for him, 10/10 points for role play. But I don't see how he's going to make it work on a day-to-day basis. I mean, I thought farm people, including women, are really tough, so wouldn't he lose face if he did stuff like that all the time... and besides, he doesn't come across as an incapable person, quite the opposite, so... I dunno, Sasha. Still, Clem seems very happy so that's nice
  18. Let me know if you need an editor.
  19. Jesus, I'm sorry. What happened to Scotty? Edit: My dad lashed out like that at my brother a few times, not consistently. I was exempt. Even after all these years, it's incredibly hard to talk about. I admire your strength.

    Opening Boxes

I don't know Robert, I'm really having to suspend disbelief to enjoy the romance at all. I just think Dave could do a lot better. Barry's wife was murdered less than a month ago--straight or gay, he lived with her for decades, raised kids with her-- and he's already having a good time on the dance floor and snuggled in with a hot FBI agent? He comes across to me as incredibly shallow. Maybe, as LitLover says, he's just compartmentalized... but then who's to say he wouldn't get over Dave just as quickly? I do not like this guy

    Clean Cut

Poor Jonah, just call him! I love the detail of Matteo checking the veggie knife for damage
  22. Wow, this is a really moving chapter Cole. Still not sure I fully understand Peterson, but I"m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt at least. And Wes's brother needs to wash that hat... I really love the situation with his mom caring for his dad and the after-effects of the stroke... I hope Chad's parents can atone for their wrongs enough to recover from the guilt of the past. What a terrible thing to have to live with.
  23. I was introduced to Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer my first Christmas in the US. I was shocked.
  24. Aw, it's not so bad A single guy and his cat deserve to send out holiday cards too!
  25. Happy birthday LitLover!
