Oh my god these two are just too much. They just can't resist poking at each other and then they get upset when the other lashes out. Really nice work, Aditus!
Awww. Kieran's so helplessly in love even I am moved. AND he told the dogs not to intrude. How sweet. Hee hee.
I have officially Given Up On Rebecca. It was apparently never the tulle going to her head, just the rottenness of her heart....
Ren, huh? Well, this is interesting... I don't know if creeping out the object of desire is likely to be a successful way of wooing him. Guess we'll find out!
Interesting that Jonah appears to be trying to prove stuff to Ren...
Sex, drugs, Art, costumes, consciousness-raising, bonfires, "contribution." I think. I've never been. It does really permeate SF culture at this point. I've seen a few of the exhibits that were set up here after, and they were honestly pretty great, like gigantic toys.
The CAP characters... I think it would be a different thing, you're right. Burning Man people are latter-day hippies...
Could it be that Alexander's feelings of inadequacy (because he needs to be supported financially) made him discount Oli's abilities? I've known that to happen in real life... Sasha, you're just determined to have us all verklempt every chapter now, aren't you? And now Oli's got to deal with introducing Boris to his friends... I never even thought of that, but of course he does. Yikes.
Well, it could just be me... I haven't noticed it since I started taking it at night. I believe it's not an uncommon effect among SSRIs (duloxetine is an SSRI/SNRI). We can discuss via PM if you need a patient's POV but people do differ so much
Courtesy of Mr. Irri:
Don Keefer, the actor who had something famously awful happen to him on the Twilight Zone. That episode was based on a classic SF short story that's as creepy as anything I've ever read.
The last of the Mitford sisters, the Dowager Duchess of Devonshire.
LOL I can't escape the interesting dead people: Mr. Irri being a ghoul over the NYT obituaries in real life, and a virtual Zombie on GA. Edit: At least I'll have material for your thread...
Presumptuous as it sounds, I'm proud of you. It's an accomplishment to Get Things Done when it's hard to get out of bed, and I think sometimes it can be a way of bootstrapping out of a tough spell.
I know Europeans aren't encouraged to medication-shop the way we are here, but is there a chance that your psychiatrist might be able to help you try duloxetine? It's supposed to have a positive effect on energy, and I do feel both more energetic and more creative since I've been on it (also more easily nauseated and wider awake at 4 AM, but you can't have everything).
Tim, I really like how you've worked the arc of Russell's development. You've been really true to the initial vision you gave us of his rediscovery of himself in Denmark, through Jacob's eyes. I do have reservations about how untrammeled his journey is by the realities of life (money/job/neighbors) but in a way that makes sense, because for a lot of us our time of "expansion" began in college or whenever we first felt free. Anyway, I congratulate you. I think you're carrying this narrative through in an unusually cohesive way for a first long work
Oh good grief, Kieran, you're asking why aren't you organizing the stag do? Really? When you don't know the last names of your only relative's friends, you've whined and moaned about every wedding event you were forced to attend, refused to attend your suit fittings, been late for everything, and fought with the bride?
Words fail me.
I love the back story, sad though it is for Jonah. It's very understandable that they would have grown apart, although Eric's chosen method of breaking up was a bit caddish. It's telling, too, that Jonah's left that pic on the refrigerator door all these years... maybe it was time for the shock treatment from Ren. Speaking of which, I take it Ren wasn't in the stairwell all night--did he go quietly home, his mission of enlightenment accomplished?
I am impressed with Jonah--I don't think I could stand to watch all that canoodling even if I weren't in love with one half of the couple.
Damn it! Every time I go to the main forum page and see this thread, I hear that introductory echoing shout and the beepbeepbeboopboop that follows it.
Really excellent chapter, Sasha. Lovely understated exploration of having to come to terms with limitations of one's potential, and how very sad it can be. Beautiful.
