  1. I know I asked someone to tell me when this story was over so I didn't have to wait each week. Well, I'm caught up now. Adam Lambert--American Idol finalist---Lead Singer for Queen. . I'm just being cheeky and fun. J
  2. I've been so busy in my own life, I didn't realize you were posting a new story. I thought you were only re-working it. Anyway, I am a bit late to the party. What an innocent the boy is, and the closing line, what is jerking off made me laugh so loud I was getting looks on the train. J
  3. In all my poetry I use metaphors a lot. Sliding the Pain was my metaphor for my drug use. This is one of my favorites. The next two are dealing with sexual abuse and are a bit heavy. After that, my last poem I ever wrote. Can't wait to close this chapter.
  4. Little by little I'll erode with disease I'm stuck in the middle down on my knees Though I try to be happy I'll never achieve I'm all alone so I'll die while you grieve Accepting the past like a map to begin I'll assume the hatred with a bitter grin A matter of principle to enjoy my sin I'll always fail so why try it again All of your intentions won't stop how I'll feel Taking never giving my love you will steal And if you deny it I'll make it seem so real Tricking w
  5. Okay now I'm really mad at you. Hey everyone, I mis-spoke, Krista and I started a fan club for the movie. Everyone resume normal programing over most of these same stations.
  6. Oh Krista, how right you are, and now I'm mad at you. (Just being cheeky) But your observations are spot on, I am corrected and doff my cap to you. No one watch this movie, me and Krista are frustrated and hate Ballas. We even started a club. J
  7. I thought it worked on two different levels. If you haven't seen it I might spoil a twist... I loved that Franky never denied being gay, never outed his friend, and accepted that life moves on As Ballas, steeped deep in the closet, hurting those around him to cover his true self, and the look of realization of the harm he done at the end when he was holding the necklace, a sign that his friend forgave him even though he didn't deserve it.
  8. Not sure if anyone suggested this movie, I really didn't want to go through seven pages to check. Franky and Ballas have been friends forever, on the night Franky was to lose his virginity to his girlfriend on his sixteenth birthday, she is called away. Franky and Ballas have a drunken night where something sexual happens between them. Their lives are torn apart as Ballas spreads rumors about Franky with the aid of his girlfriend. A twist on the usual gay boy plays around with straight friend. Good acting all around and thought provoking premise about life, friendship, sexuality, and mental health.

    Chapter 2

Maybe I would have but we’ll never know.

    Chapter 2

This was the sentences that caused my confusion. Where I thought I missed a time jump somewhere. And with that, the man walked off. “And we need to feed,” Vladimir remarked, his voice a low, seductive whisper. They walked down the street until they came to a busy club, the thumping bass echoing through the night air. It was just what they were looking for—it was all men. The trio entered the club, the pulsating lights casting shadows that danced across their faces. The heavy beats of the music seemed to sync with Thomas’s racing heart. They found a corner booth where they could observe the crowd and plan their next move. These descriptions sounded like a modern dance club to me so I was asking for clarification as I was genuinely confused. And just so I don't look like a further idiot, I know the Roman times was a dream, I also have dyslexia so I couldn't remember the numbers that started chapter one, which is 1840, I went back to look when you said it begins in 1850. That's the trouble with typing out a comment quickly, I should have given greater detail in my first comment and then maybe you would not have taken offense. But at the time, It was a genuine confused moment without intent of offense. Now, not so much. Thank you for responding and I think I have an answer to my question now.

    Chapter 2

So I love vampires, anyone who knows me knows this. So I was excited when I saw the title with the indication there will be death and blood. I so love vampires who aren't afraid to kill, manipulate, and cause general chaos to mortals. But I am really confused by this story. In chapter one it says 1840 or 1890, but then in chapter two, it talks about going to club, hearing the beat of the music, pulsing lights. I know there is one timeline in Roman times, one in 1840 or 1890, when did the story jump into modern times, did I miss it? Sorry to nit pick, but I'm a bit lost. Can someone point me to where I messed up? J
  12. My husband knows this exists, I told him about it yesterday. I think he's up to chapter five. He reads slower than I...but he refuses to register as this would let me know when he's stalking me on here, plus I'd troll the shit out of him like I do on FaceBook.
  13. So I found this story last night, read all but this chapter. And wow. So i hate stories presented in diary form, I hate when writing diary stories they switch POV's by having another character write in the journal. I hate stories involving children as protagonists, and badasses kids like Garrett I hate even more because they never come off a believable. Oh, and I abhor zombie stories. I'm a vampire kid and my husband is a zombie freak. I don't know why this format works, but god damnit it does, remarkably well even. You capture the chaos and claustrophobic setting in ways that I never read in a zombie story. And instead of making one person who knows everything always, you have spread around the knowledge in believable ways. It kind of reminds me of The Change novels by S.M. Stirling. I love how for the first few weeks, your protagonists lovers kind of sat around, hoping the government was going to do something. The the slow realization if they wanted to live they'd have to do it themselves. When they found Garret in the woods, that was heartbreaking scene, keeping his father alive because he couldn't do what he knew had to be done. Great scene, and Garret being a boy scout for some reason makes me believe he can do what you portray him to do. Just a real good story. For a zombie story, I like that you seem to stick to the original format, mindless beings that aren't alive and have a desire to feed. They aren't fast, or thinking, or some kind of hybrid to create fake drama. That's scary enough in the right hands i guess. Over all, I am enjoying my first ever zombie story.
  14. The ominous countdown at the beginning of Prologue and Chapter One insists they happened on the same day. I'm really hoping the Scandal from the title isn't the Scandal I'm thinking. A closeted teacher, divorced, denial, just as Damien did in the Prologue. I'll continue on to the next chapter.

    Prologue

For only being 1800 words or so, there is a bunch of information conveyed. Not the usual info dump many do, this is relayed to the reader via conversation, a reverse from some telling and not showing. Here you get showing through the dynamics of mother and son. Damien had some issues in middle school, he was bullied, and didn't quite fit in. Now he has the chance to make a new start at a new school. And who wouldn't be estatic to no longer have to sit through mass. I'm down to dip a toe and see where this leads. J
  16. I just saw this because of Myr's Deep Dive blog post and what a great way to start my day off. I got a GED at sixteen, which I think a trained monkey could pass, and never made it to college so my education level pales in comparison to most other people on this site. Whatever small amount of knowledge I have was because I found interest in something and did my research. Not only does research make your story better, it also expands your mind, like one commenters said so elegantly above. I read as much as I can, incorporate that into my work when applicable, and like you said, I tend to get lost in the research. One of my friends recently received his Masters in History. Being as that is a subject I love, I did all his homework alongside him, wrote the same research papers, read the same books, and listened to the same lectures, he was kind enough to record all of them. And while I never received a piece of paper, it was a personal milestone to take the journey alongside my friend and receive the same knowledge. You don't have to go to school to learn something. Great article and one I think everyone could find benefit from reading.
  17. I love metaphors, and the idea of the shrubs and what they represent was powerful imagery indeed. The feeling of helplessness was palatable as the father looked back on how his life fell apart. Very nicely done. J
  18. I've known a lot of Dave's in my life. While this is a fictional story, it runs parallel to one of my high school friends. He didn't shoot someone but he did kill another boy in a car accident. They were trying to avoid a DUI checkpoint and the car he was driving overturned and his friend was thrown from the vehicle and crushed underneath it. My friend escape with barely a scratch. He spent about ten years in jail for that offense. It wasn't his last time behind bars either. Thanks for commenting. Only four more to go.
  19. There was this boy I knew We both went to the very same school We were best buddies we were pals I even stayed with him once in a while We were just like two pees in a pod Liked the same things it was rather odd All through the Junior High We'd try to catch the pretty girls eye Since I was the loud one in my class Bold and brazen I had a lot of brass He sort of kept me on the narrow Claimed I was like a broken arrow He warned me to settle down And not be the wild boy in
  20. Most of my poetry is the direct result of a boy named John. This chronicles our meeting, our relationship, and our implosion amongst cheating, drug abuse, and lust filled sex. I really did devise my own demise with him. My twenties were defined by John, a gay boy from Philly that moved to Harrisburg and wrecked havoc in everyone's life around him. My thirties were defined by my on again off again relationship with a straight boy named Konstantin. John got all the poems and Konstantin got all the blogs. J
  21. Growing up in a strict religious household, the idea of sexuality nearly broke me and sent me into a spiral of drugs, more drugs, and self harm tendencies that I lived in for almost a decade before I crawled out. Acceptance is a powerful tool to lay to rest guilt I was given due to misguided beliefs. J
  22. Thank you for your comments. This was one of the last poems I ever wrote. Most of my poetry was written during a time when I was not in a good head space. I found once I got sober, started re-building my life, poetry morphed into me writing blogs instead as I learned to deal with my mental issues. When I go back and read my poetry, it brings up dark thoughts so I normally don't like to re-read those. But the other day I went through all my poetry and I am going to add to this collection maybe five or six more and then mark this complete as I move onto other writing endeavors. But I think I want to put a bow on that part of my life by sharing the very last piece I wrote. J
  23. You dropped the words on me today Duty it seems will soon take you away I think a part of me died tonight I feel nothing on my insides Fighting a war I can't begin to understand Being Army strong won't make you a man Can you hide who you're fighting for Being on the front lines in the wrong fucking war We spoke until the words were yells I'll never understand you I can tell Brandon, I really feel like hell But I'll throw a few pennies in the wishing well You stoo
  24. This chapter is the exact reason why I normally never start stories until they are complete. Can one of you kind members shoot me a message when this story ends? J

    The Copy Room

Joshua as a protagonist does not seem to have many redeeming qualities. He has an inferiority complex, boundary issues, delusions, and the biggest issue is zero impulse control. He clearly knows what he's doing is wrong, premeditates his crime, ensures he has an escape plan in place, and stalks his future victim. That is a toxic mix of serial killer behavioral tendencies torn right from the Incel playbook. Anytime a disturbed person puts another human up so high in his fantasies, poor Scott doesn't have a chance to live up to the person Joshua has created in his mind. And why did I get the mental picture of Joshua rolling around the bed in a suit he fashioned from Scott's skin. This is a very dark, extremely disturbing story on every level. That being said, I'm not opposed to very dark, extremely disturbing stories. I'm not even saying I don't like this story. I think it will depend solely on how the author chooses to end this story. But I'm thinking I'm not going to like the resolution. But I've been surprised before and I'm always looking to be surprised again. J
