Annihilation and Sterilization
raven1 reviewed CarlHoliday's story in 2007 - Winter - Worth Fighting For
A very short treat in a unique universe. A good story to read during a short wait. I like interesting and quirky stories. This has the added benefit of being short enough to kill a bit of time while waiting. There are some really fun twists to the plot and a lot of irony.-

Annihilation and Sterilization
raven1 commented on CarlHoliday's story chapter in Annihilation and Sterilization
Short and sweet trip in a quirky universe. Nice treat! -
I think the word you are searching for is delusional MrsGnomie.

I'm not gonna jinx a vacation though, so I'll keep my mouth !

Nope! Not in the least cringy. I loved the entire story from start to finish and didn't cringe once. You have gotten much better, but this first work was a definite 5 star story.

I can't really say more than the comment already made. I do share the sorrow expressed by @astone2292 at the death of Matthias. His abrasive humor and unbridled lust will be truly missed. The transition was wonderfully described, and I am happy Bernie has his own protectors.
-
I know that we are all anticipating Bernie's transition and hope it will go well. Curtis is so stupid that I can believe the Benefactors thought he would be an effective spy. Of course there will be danger, but the Supreme Alpha Taylor is now warned and on the lookout for trouble. Curtis would not be someone who would be expected to present a gift to Bernie, so I'm sure that Taylor, Chad, Axel or Adam will be able to stop Curtis before he utters the words that will set the bomb off. I am sure it is the words the Emperor emphasized, because no one can predict the exact time. Mattias as much of an ass in Alex's road trip with Adam, is a hysterically funny! Running out of bears in a crowd of over 200 hundred? At least Bernie has his number and pegged Mattias. The only question is if Chad got into the action.

Great discussion in the comments with a lot of very good points.

I don't envy either boy. It's a tough decision as it now stands. It pits the love and teachings of Deke's family against the love he and Colby share.
-
It is very difficult to believe that Deke who was raised to respect life can accept what Colby has done. Unless of course, Colby has enthralled Deke. Although vampire universe cannon hold that vampires have no soul, Colby does act like he has one. @Comicality, I only have one thing to say. "Well here's another nice mess you've gotten us into!" (Slightly paraphrased and attributed originally to W. S. Gilbert, but made famous by Oliver Hardy.) How the hell are you going to get us out of this mess? 🤔

The battle with the coyotes was unusual for a couple of reasons. Minor issue being coyotes live in family packs, but hunt alone, or at most in pairs. Colby's gang displayed amazing powerful abilities, or was it magic? Still not sure what they are, but Colby wants to explain it all to Deke. Hopefully we will know more after the next chapter.

Up on a tab and following it! Thanks for the suggestion!

I also agree that these are neither coyotes or Priest's posse. I think they may be the real monsters being chased by the posse.

I am getting some mixed signals about this story. Colby doesn't seem to have some of physical characteristics of a vampire like cold to the touch, or complete darkness when the sun is up. The sex was hot, and the dialogue sounded authentic for young teens of the time. I just wonder if the secret is what I thought it was.

I guess I'll have to do a little more searching on your page. Working the Night Shift and Salem Revisited are on my list now.

Thanks Clo! Have a great day!!

Hi All! I saw this on Val's essay the Writing World blog posted just now. Thought you all would like to know.

BTW, I just hope Max doesn't have to deal with ice when he's shoveling. I have hurt my ankle too many times that way. Of course when I did, it was with Oregon snow which is very heavy with water and can quickly turn to ice.

Hi Gary! Sorry to hear about the kitten.

Hey Page! Nature struck here too. I got a rude awakening at 4:30 this morning. A 4.4 earthquake centered 50 km to the east of Chiang Mai. Woke up to find internet was out in our building. The quake had broken the fiber cable. I'm using my phone as a hotspot, but it is agonizingly slow. No other damage.🙏

We may have to wait for the next book, but it will be fun to see how Tyler's family reacts to the new additions to the family.

You were neither in this chapter. I am sure Carlos would approve. We know enough information to know the twins are not feral. They weren't acting out, they were just excited to find their mates. Even 30 miles away, the wolf shifters understood what the twins were excited about. As to the boys having an older brother comments, I'm going to have to reread a few chapters back to see if you left any clues that they had an older brother. I have to admit you were lucky or sly when picking a picture like that. Knowing you it wasn't luck. You probably pick it knowing how much speculation it would cause. I can easily see Kage working on finding great mates for his little brothers.

Deacon has made it to meet Colby, but the risk he took put him in a very dangerous position. Colby came to his rescue, but Colby's assurance that Tuck was a field mouse didn't ring true to me. I think that Tucker is one of the problems and is a big danger to Deacon, Colby and Ahote. Tucker is an angry, reckless man with a bigoted nature. Deacon is again distracted by Colby, and I fear he my forget to tell him about the plans of the vigilante posse. I like the way this chapter build tension for what will happen next.

There is a great deal to think about in this chapter. My first impression of Timok for example is changing. He seems more like a slightly jealous best friend of Garjah with a twisted sense of humor, and not a subversive, evil villain. I think he needs his own man. Maybe Ases? The main problem in the chapter is the plan to bring social change to this world. Getting Ases' mech is the first problem. It will not be as difficult as rescuing Garjah, but is not an easy task. However, the main problem is changing how the population thinks and feels about the current structure of their society, as well as their positions in that society. Just because the rebels have the means and evidence to prove what they say is true, doesn't mean they can change the minds of enough of the people to make the plan work. Millennia of programmed education and entrenched beliefs are going to be difficult to overcome in a short time. We can see that in the difficulties experienced in trying to reverse biases against race, gender and sexual identities. We can see that in how hard it is to change people's ideas on climate, economic systems and human rights. Preconceptions and beliefs are going to be the biggest challenge to the plan.
