That old guy is there every morning! How did he get there? And you know him, too! Goodness, he must get around...and you are very good to understand the dilemma of keeping some things deeply to ourselves. Of course, one could ask if it is self preservation, then is that particular self worth preserving? But that must be for another sonnet...thanks so much for your insight and empathy. P

I got to read and to like, but not to review yesterday...and now everyone has gotten in! Well, I can only echo all the great things said already, and add my congrats on another great chapter. And it looks like maybe Kellar and Tobyn might piece together the Reznick puzzle...thanks and cheers! -
Your return to the first stanza - and it is so very powerful - amplifies the emotion in this poem. The loneliness and endlessness of nighttime starlit driving makes for a perfect metaphor. You hit on it so naturally, it hurts. Many thanks for sharing this poem!

This chapter made me feel as apprehensive as you described Jackson to be. Old environment not being safe, new competition, and plenty of conflicts with new characters. The last two paragraphs really reveal so much of what Jackson has to live for, and that he can see it give me hope as a reader for a better, happier Jackson...and maybe a happier Luke, too. Awesome chapter, and thank you!

The predator certainly got a surprise. But Ted is a riddle, even though it is abundantly clear that he is perfectly capable of giving the predator a large dose of his own medicine. You bring uO so many questions, and I fear I can answer none of them. But I am very glad you chose to read a second chapter of this story. Thank you so much for reading!

Stranger I waken with a stranger in my bed, his features intimately known, yet odd, for he has residence inside my head, a condominium by chance or God. I do not want to recognize him, though he sleeps upon my pillow every night; he's old and grey, his wits are rather slow, and when he smiles, small children run in fright. What happened that this dreary man appeared, displacing one who was my inmost friend with him whose speech and thinking are so weird, but on his daily cowardice attend?

Well now we know where Kenny stands. Kenny, who apparently needs to have some introspection time, too. Marty is still a great guy, and hopefully can help Zac tell his family, and soon. As for his friends, Zac May gave to let time heal wounds he cannot salve on his own. Great chapter, and all too real.

You have an excellent question, but no answer, for now. It is a chilling chapter, because your remarks are spot on. And that means the predator-turned-prey is surely about to learn something about power and being powerless from Ted. No Ted wasted not one moment. It's a complex set of emotions, isn't it? It's hard to disentangle how to feel exactly about a situation like this one. Ted definitely appears to get more than lucky. The predator is no longer so fortunate. Suddenly he feels what it is like to be in the talons of another one such as himself. Thanks for coming back for another chapter!

He woke to the sound of water running in the shower. Who? His roommate almost never rose early. He tried vainly to clear his head. A low note sounded over the hiss of cascading water. Was someone humming? Singing? His brain felt thick, and he had to make a concentrated effort to bring his faculties to bear, trying to figure out where he was. A pounding ache that radiated from deep inside his skull beat any hangover he could remember. Light. The light was on. It shone dimly in the room. B

In the last review, I said how much I liked the alternate reality you constructed. As before, you draw me in and help me make sense of the world you created. And in this chapter, you really help me understand more of its nature in Micah's reaction, and in the way Jordan and Brandon try to help mend that. Your dialogue is engagingly written, especially. Thank you.
