Now, I cannot speak for what will happen. I can only say that that I have been trying to explore redemption. But you are right in that both stories are very rough in the early going. Many thanks for your perceptive remarks!

In a way, I am glad that you have conflict - I do, too. How far does one have to go before one becomes irredeemable? I know it is hard to read, and it was hard to write, too. Thank you for your response, and for reading.
  3. What will survive once we’ve destroyed ourselves? That line just took my breath away, for it speaks to the everyday bits of destruction for which we are all responsible. Poem number two made me tremble - to be in the presence of a such a kind and forgiving heart as yours. Will the heart in #2 be able to forgive the destroyer - me, us - in #1? Again, I tremble. Thanks for each of these.
  4. What a perfectly marvelous poem. I really, really like the personifications of house and storm, of stubborn child and mother. That was absolutely brilliant! And then the sun leaving its hiding place in the heavens...fantastic imagery, and I could see it all. Thank you, thank you, Gary!

Unquestionably, Ted and our Predator have broken a bunch of laws. Neither would want to encounter the police; would either one like to encounter his conscience, too? Would either one recognize it? Whichever one does will claim that shred of humanity you speak of so eloquently. Thanks for your patience and for your response. Thanks also for reading this story!

Thanks, Gary. No. Rome was not built in a day, or even in a year or two. Survival is the first instinct, but then what? Our main character gains no kudos for his business instincts, sharp as they might be. He may not see his reversals as good things, but perhaps you have hit upon something he did not see until now - that he needs to reinvent himself as something better. Thanks for your comments, as they cut to the heart of things in this story. And thanks for reading so far into the tale.

    Chapter 19

Beautiful way to describe the epic party...it's significance unknown to most, but epic, nonetheless. Completely agree with Skinny's comment and add my kudos to his!

This backstory hardly exonerates our predator. It may tell us why he may have chosen as he did, but his choices were the wrong ones. And then he made one that went terribly, terribly wrong. I hope this chapter was informative, but it could not have been much more than that. Thank you for making that plain...and for reading, of course!

No, he knows he is no hero. He knows - now - his approach to getting back at his parents was wrong. He has done very badly, and his current situation is much of his so own making. Our predator is coming to recognize this, but he is still largely at a loss of what to do. Many thanks for continuing to read and comment on this story!

Thank you for your rant and experiences. Your experiences are the lens through which you see and react to the world. Why shouldn't you tell us about them?

A medium sized state university wasn't necessarily the worst place to be homeless in, but it still sucked. Everyone knew about the problem of being "sexiled;" that is, being temporarily without quarters while one's roommate gets laid or does the laying. But this was different. He was afraid. He was furiously angry – with his traitor roommate, with Ted, with all the people who had used him – and with himself, too. He experienced harsh self-recrimination for his own stupidity, acid self-castigati

Thanks for the review and support, Carlos! You make me blush...
  14. Wherever did you unearth Schobert? This link is wonderful; and it provides real evidence for those seeking transitions from the baroque to the classical periods.

    Chapter 28

A terrible, terrible disaster. I was afraid of this, and my fears were completely realized; that you wrote that realization so well, is testament to how badly I feel for both Jason and Corey right now. You have done amazingly. Now, I hope your literary wizardry is up to repairing the breach before a legion of fans runs through the entire national stock of Kleenex.
  16. Thanks, tim! The poor, unfortunate grass, interrupted in making its own food as we lie out upon it...but perhaps our need is greater, still .
  17. Thank you for making this story such a sweet, and largely gentle - and definitely beautiful - story. And I surely hope that nothing ever comes between Zane and Clint again. I would like to remember them that way.
  18. Thank you, Val. That's grand that you liked either one...but that verse about the grass was fun to conceive.....
  19. So glad you saw right through me...I am one of those hopelessly romantic scientist types...if that is a type. But I am happy you liked Planck, as I wasn't sure it came off all right, but doesn't it all make one wonder if love is a quantum force? Or, as I'd like to prefer, continuous? I think I shall need to do more in-depth research....and I am very happy 'piquancy' tickled your fancy. Many thanks for your kind support... parker

    Chapter 13

This is a fantastic chapter. Yes, Zac. You said yes to yourself, and that's what matters. That's it. Zac can forget about doors, however they are numbered. He's already got the prize. Excellent chapter!
  21. Great reading, this chapter! Loved Adelin's response to Kellar's almost fumbling, nearly gallant explanations. Yeah, if she gets her earth mate, then look out! The energy released could probably power Toronto for the winter. Kellar and Tobyn interact in ways that make us feel we know and love them as characters more deeply with each passing chapter. In short, you have developed a story we anticipate all the time. Speaking of which, isn't the next chapter due about now? Please?

    Chapter 4

Reinforcements. Help. Barry is right to be suspicious in times like the ones you describe, but perhaps Barry, Dave and the rest can breathe a little bit more easily. If there is to be a fight, let it at least be one they have a chance of winning. But, as Barry said, wouldn't it be better if everyone could be convinced to just live and let live? You continue to write in such a way as to convey the atmosphere of this dystopic future world without actually having to give us a laborious, tedious history. This is very well done. Thanks for another great chapter.

    Trapped

As you say, the predator turned prey must wish he could have avoided waking up, or perhaps reverse time. But neither is possible. The roommate seems contentedly asleep; and Ted seems to have been happy with the roommate. Our predator simply can't focus beyond the complete reversal he has experienced. You may suspect that his focus is about to be concentrated swiftly. Many, many thanks for your perceptive review, and for reading this story!

Definitely Karma in action. Our predator is now the prey, and it's not a petty moment. In fact, he's about to learn exactly how much of a bitch karma can be... Thanks for picking up this story!
  25. Photosynthesis It's photosynthesis, I know, that makes my garden lettuce grow when sunlight causes plants to make their carbohydrates then to stow. They do this when I'm just awake, the chloroplasts, their fluids bake, producing sugars, which we crave in corn, or in a chocolate shake. By doing this, my roses save their energy for blooms that wave when breezes blow and rainclouds mass, and birds seek homes in maples brave. I worry for the summer grass; we lie upon it, bold as
