Luckily, Eddie wasn't straight. LOL. Remaining a virgin until marriage is still a thing in some cultures, I'm glad Eddie followed his heart. And as you say, Charlie respected Eddie's choice.
Thank you for your thoughts and for reading this.
It's a lovely, well-written story.
Neither of my parents lived long enough to develop dementia, and my grandparents didn't either. It's one thing I've been spared.
I loved Kenny. He's a sweet and strong guy who did the right thing by his mom.
Thanks for letting me read it for you. ❤️
Finding … Everything
"I don't believe this, Charlie!"
To say my father was upset would be an understatement. He was in mid-rant at present.
"You have a scholarship, which starts in just over a month, and you come in tonight and tell us this?" My father was a full-body ranter. On his feet, arms waving, voice raised, he stalked back and forth across the living room. He stopped suddenly and faced me. "NO! Absolutely, this is not going to happen."
I watched him fro
Charlie has always done the right thing. Now, before going to university and then on to medical school, he decides he needs to get away for a year to learn about himself and the world, much to his parents' chagrin. So, he puts University on hold and decides to travel. Will he find what he's looking for?
Thanks, Wayne. I appreciate you reading them. The hound thing is not my brilliance ... it's an old metaphor for depression. It's an interesting way to think of it, however.
Good morning! It is Squirrel Awareness Month, so watch out for our cute little rodents! We saw a lovely little red squirrel the other night when we were out for a walk. They are typically not found in our cities but in more forested areas.
Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canadians. I've been cooking things over the last couple of days to make today easier—and what is easier than a pre-stuffed butterball turkey for those who like to indulge?
Enjoy your day and dinner with family and friends. If you can, consider donating to a food charity or one of your favourites.
I'm grateful for my family and you lot every day. xoxo
Thank you, t.n. Depression is so very far beyond being sad it's hard to explain to people. Those near us try to help and understand, but you're just miles away. It's so hard to deal with.
I'm glad to know you're in a better place. It's good because then we know what we can feel, even if the dog catches up. Knowledge is power, and knowing that we've been in the light helps us return there sooner.
Thank you for reading and choosing to comment on these two poems; I greatly appreciate it.
Several people have said this to me over the years. I'll tell you what I told them: Do you need to paint to understand a painting? I need to understand the technical points of poetry; as a reader, you simply need to read.
TS Eliot said, "Genuine poetry can communicate before it is understood." I often read poems that make me feel before I consciously understand them. It's an interesting form of writing.
Thanks for reading them and sharing your thoughts.
I haven't watched much, but some of the oddball options Amazon Prime shows are fun to watch. Something I'd love to see made into a few films is the Evil Walks Among Us series by Erik Henry Vick. It's an excellent series of novels, the first of which is called Demon King. He's an excellent writer.
The last film I watched was The New Daughter. It's not a new film, and it's listed as drama/horror. I'm looking through their list of horror films for something that will actually scare me a little. LOL.
Black dog has been a term for depression for a long time, but it's a good one. As you say, dogs can be good and gentle companions or the opposite. It's been easier to deal with depression by accepting it rather than fighting it, so I think of it as a companion of sorts.
Thank you for reading and for taking the time to share your thoughts.
