Why Am I Different? - 1. Why Am I Different?

I only read this because you wrote it @Lee Wilson.  Not a fan of poetry, at least not that I am aware of, but this was simply delightful. I have to confess it moved me and I shed it tear or two (how unlike me) as it captured the struggle and ultimate triumph of a gay man in nine verses. Well done.

Thanks. I'm not very big on poetry, but sometimes the bug bites and I can pull something off.

Omg this poem made me cry until the end but at the end, it was happy tears. Very well written!

A tale well told, very relatable. A great example of why poetry matters. Feeling 'normal' is something many of us strive for, but it takes years and years to realize there is no such thing. Cheers!

Normal is as different for every person as every person is different. A universal normal, I agree, doesn't exist.

When at last one stops trying to fit into others' expectations, one finds "normal" defined by one's own actions, beliefs, and lifestyle!  Each of us has talents and parts to play in creating and lifting up the world in which we exist.  To have someone join us on our journey is a gift for sure!

Thanks. If more people recognized that our differences make us more the same, the world would be a nicer place.

Well, said, Lee.  While some see diversity as a bad thing, we should celebrate the differences, because the world would be a less interesting place if we were all robots acting, feeling, and looking identical.  And making others feel as if they don't belong has long been a tactic of those who strive to feel powerful and more important and special than everyone else.  Don't let those people ever make you feel inferior.  I'm glad you realized this and communities such as this one can give you a safe place to belong.

And the powerful seem to have more disdain for those that are different than the folks who are just trying to get by.

A lovely poem full of many emotions all out in the open for us all to experience and remember why this touches us all so deeply.
