  1. This short little piece is great advice if you're stuck on something and need to brainstorm it out on your own.
  2. Welcome, everyone! Starting early in 2018, we will be posting weekly articles by Comicality and other authors every Saturday morning. I wanted to get this kicked off so between now and then we'll be posting links to previous Writing Tips, which can currently be found in our Stories Archive in the Non-Fiction -> Writing Tips category. Please be sure to check them out. Read and review! The three for this week are from Lugh:
  3. Actually, it is a better reason for Apple to be scourged from the Earth. That screenshot is perfectly legible to me...
  4. @Puppilull these are used for emphasis. No story should use them for more than that.
  5. As I mentioned last week, it is my plan to post short feature highlights as well as other tech-related items here each Tuesday. This week it is about our Letter format and IM/texting formatting. This feature is available across the site, and the buttons are displayed in desktop/laptop-sized windows and tablet-sized windows. The buttons are not in the mobile browser due to space limitations. There are two ways you can use this feature: You can type everything you want to format (or paste it), highlight it and then press the format button. Or you can press the format button and then type everything you want (or paste it) in the box. The formatting will appear as it does when you post, right in the editor. If you are typing in the box and want to get out of it, just hit enter twice and you'll be back into the normal editor. Please note that the formatting does vary from browser to browser and from operating system to operating system. The Letter format is more script based to imply handwriting, while the IM/Text formatting uses monospace (Courier) to imply computerized text. In both cases, the text is indented and put into its own box. If you have stories that need this format, I suggest going back and editing your story accordingly. This method does work properly with our chapter text control and won't later run afoul of formatting problems. (it is just putting this in a format box and we then could tweak the formatting for everything tagged this way all at once, thus providing improvements to ALL stories that are properly tagged in one go.) As time permits, the staff will clean up older stories by authors no longer with us for one reason or another. Please let me know what you think in the comments below. Was this feature helpful? Did you have something else you wanted to see? I have a list of topics I'm planning to share but I will shuffle dates around if people show a strong desire for a topic.
  6. I certainly hope we get there. And I hope we don't do something that causes the Zombie Apocalypse in the process. Like "I am Legend" or "Walking Dead" or such things.
  7. If you follow the story and your notifications are set to notify on Like, then you get two notifications. The follow system in the old software relied on likes. Now they rely on Follow. The Like notifications in the current software are simply legacy support. Now, having said that, the 4.1 version of the forum software had a limited notification function that artificially cut off the number of people it would notify. This was fixed in the 4.2 forum software, but not yet fixed in the Stories software. We are beta testing some of those changes in the Stories software now. Current workaround if you are not getting chapter notifications on stories you follow... Like them and toggle your notification for the "Notify me when a chapter is posted to a story I like"
  8. The editors for tablet and mobile have fewer buttons. I've added the spoiler button to both.
  9. I've got that on my list, yes.
  10. @BHopper2 I am not sure what you mean. link or screenshot please.
  11. I stopped counting at 20, the number of books on that list I read. At least 5 of them were for school in English or History classes. Please do not devolve further into political content here. If you want to shoot it out in the Pit, go ahead. But this statement is not something that can be properly replied to without causing a back and forth that is best suited to The Pit.
  12. Hello! Welcome back to Tech Tuesdays! Starting today, we are planning on bringing this feature back for you every Tuesday. Most of them will be short but will highlight either existing features or coming features. Today, we will be going over the use of the spoiler tags. These are built right into the editor and should be used to hide information that would otherwise spoil someone's enjoyment. This often applies to the big twists you see in books, movies, tv shows, games, etc. It is considered rude and obnoxious by many to let out a big secret before others have had a chance to get to it themselves. On GA, you can hide text in many places like Stories, Forums, or Clubs. It's a good way to hide sensitive material such as reader reviews as well as large blocks of text that you want to share but don't want always visible, such as a story or chapter sample for feedback. It is especially important for Gay Authors to use Spoiler tags because the activity stream shows content out of context. For example, the latest reviews and latest story/chapter comments can be seen in the stream, and it's very easy for someone to read a comment on a story they haven't had a chance to read yet. The information inside Spoiler tags is NOT shown in that stream. How to use: Click the "eye" icon on the toolbar. Type your spoiler information inside the box that appears. Type the rest of your comment. Submit your comment. and you get this: Also, here is a video that walks you through it:
  13. Typoman is an inexpensive platformer game... that ties in with words. This is on all systems.
  14. Welcome to the Quickstart Story Posting Guide for Gay Authors. It is important that you spend the time to read this and the included links. Since Gay Authors allows authors to directly post their stories on our site, we necessarily have a more complex system then sites that just accept submissions via email. This guide was written to help speed you through our process. You must have an account on Gay Authors in order become an Author here. Register for free here: https://www.gayauthors.org/register/ Further help on this can be found here in our FAQ: https://www.gayauthors.org/faq/general/ Once you have an active account on Gay Authors, you must "purchase" the Author member group in the store You can find Authors here (You must be signed in to see this): Or you can find Poets here (You must be signed in to see this): Please select the group that will be primary for your posted works (Author group if you plan to write mostly stories or Poet group if you plan to write mostly Poetry) You can find more details on Authors in our FAQ located here: https://www.gayauthors.org/faq/authors/authors/ You now have posting privileges in the Gay Authors Stories Archive. As new Author, you are automatically going to be in the Moderation queue. It is very important that you understand our posting guidelines BEFORE you attempt to post. Read them now: Get your story ready to post Post your story: Posting new chapters. You are only allowed to post one new chapter per day (total, not just per story) while in the queue. Authors who have cleared the queue can post every 8 hours. This rule is in place to help both you and other authors. Stories are automatically announced as they post and flooding the system is considered abusing it. In addition, readers respond to authors much more frequently if they have a regular posting pattern and do not attempt to post all at once since readers also tend to only comment on the last chapter they read. Post a new chapter to an existing story:

  16. I think between @Cia and @jamessavik this topic is well answered. @Carlos Hazday also touched on it as well. Didn't Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land help kick off the Hippy 60's? (and isn't fascinating how VERY different Stranger in a Strange Land is from Starship Troopers?) Yet both are Sci-Fi.
  17. Happy Thanksgiving! (Cia just posted this on our Facebook page...) A great time to read some stories if you're stuck waiting...
  18. They should be working again.
  19. Somebody would have to title it that way. The default title for images is the file name...
  20. Invision created a bug with their last update. They are aware of the issue and have not issued a patch yet.
  21. It is until there is a fix for the issue. No idea when they'll get the issue fixed though.
  22. Anonymous sign in has been removed due to issues it was causing in the system.
  23. Wow. EA is really stepping all over themselves on the loot crate stuff. They've been rated as "do not buy" by some big sources. The Belgium government is investigating for illegal gambling. Yikes. Game plays well though. A lot of stuff is being overshadowed by this money grab BS. They need to stick to making content people are willing to pay for and not stupid random boxes.
  24. Yup. That's about right.
  25. Why thank you
