I love that Elijah bust his cherry as a top!! 🍒 Equally love that Kage is versatile (of course he’d be a power bottom, lol). His topping Elijah is going to be hothothot since he knows pleasure from both ends 💥💥🔥🔥; Kage’s mutual respect/no means no was very refreshing to hear. It is great that both of these consenting adults are going into this with eyes wide open & free of picking china patterns but that doesn’t negate the fact that something very special is happening between these two. So Kage saved the day, Tyler gave him the “don’t fuck with my friend or I’ll kill you” talk and Elijah gave Kage the “I’m a big boy and can make my own decisions, you’re better than you know” talk, then proceeds to ravish him, something I don’t think Kage has previously been on the receiving end of. From the near death experience to the potential near “little death” experience, this chapter was full of intense emotions; It made me sad that Kage was unable to recognize some of those he experienced himself, like jealousy and possessiveness, so previously unaffected and removed he’s had to be from his own feelings. “The burning need which was building within Kage when it came to Elijah, was going to get someone scorched. He could handle it, but could Elijah? No matter what, he was going to get hurt and Kage would be the cause.” When I read this, I felt Kage was making a unknown self prophecy, he has no clue what’s coming….

I think Mae’s death will free Henry, give him a rebirth of sorts- he showed spine reaching out to Alec in spite of his wife’s eradication of Alec’s existence from their lives; I hope even if he and Alec can’t find a way to reconcile that he takes this opportunity to be his own person.

River is THE BEST FRIEND❣️❣️ I loved his telling off the gawkers while Finn was comforting Alec, just more proof that River will always have Alec’s back; thank all that is good and proper that Alec has River and Finn. “She wanted what was best for you, but I don’t think she ever knew what it was. She honestly thought you were ruining your life and that she could somehow save you from yourself.” I tried a long time ago to make allowances for people who do the wrong things with the best of intentions but that allowance has gotten rather small over time; in Mae’s instance, I have none. As evidenced by her browbeaten husband, it was her way or no way and she left no room for compromise or disobedience….Henry’s justification sounds like it is-an abused enabler trying to justify the behavior of their abuser. Alec gave Mae more than she deserved and now he can close this chapter of his life; I hope he can find forgiveness for Mae, for his sake, not hers. Even with the ritual of grief that has to be observed (wake, funeral, burial) the future looks bright for Alec, Finn and River.

The more I see our consensus that Kage saved the day makes me wonder….our author loves to do the unexpected and I doubt we’ve met all the cast of characters on the force for good. In other words:

Kage is drawn to Elijah like a magnet….he can use the guise of his boss’ orders to keep an eye on him for now but methinks Kage will be breaking some rules for Elijah….big ones. I think he’d rather hurt himself before he harms a molecule of Elijah’s.

The concept of fated mates has been mentioned tossed around for the shapeshifter world-fated mates or soul mates, Elijah and Kage are meant for something. 💞 If shit wasn’t real before, it’s really real now….a drive by will do that. Thank goodness for Kage’s vigilance; it seems Tyler’s going to learn about him a lot sooner than Elijah wanted him to. Who/what/why? Oh my. 😮

Our relationship with our parents affect us; they provide the foundation for every other relationship we have in our lives….if they are healthy, we tend to gravitate to healthy relationships….if they are not, we tend not to and can spend the rest of our lives fighting against the only thing we know. Alec’s mother was an awful one to him yet the primordial urge for parental acceptance remains; her imminent death reminds that whatever chances for reconciliation between them are dwindling-when she’s gone, she’s gone; that grief isn’t something he should deal with alone so I’m glad River and Finn will be supporting him, it’s where they belong and where they want to be. In the midst of the Strum und Drang of this chapter, this made me laugh because it echoes what I said previously: “It can also be incredibly frustrating. He says whatever he wants to. He doesn’t try to sugarcoat things and it sometimes makes him come off as…as…” “An asshole?” Alec offered, smiling more now.” 🤣🤣
