I half expected Kasar to take a long sniff of Elijah when he walked in the office but I knew he wouldn’t because that would be too obvious; no doubt all five senses were on alert during that meeting. Yin and Yang has come to my mind thinking of Shadow and Shape as well. ☯️

As I read through the attractions listed for San Francisco, I also thought of “Lombard Street”, known as the “crookedest street in the world”, (though I’ve never been and with my motion sickness probably wouldn’t be able to visit if I were.) Kah-gey is in business mode when he’s on a mission so his “hands” off policy was understandable; I’m glad he relented to Elijah’s request to “be as they were before”: “Kage’s eyes visibly softened, and his body language relaxed. He gave a heavy sigh before replying. “You’re right. I’m sorry I’ve been an ass. I’m not good with this kind of thing. I can mix and mingle and fake it fantastically, but when it comes to actually interacting with someone on a personal level, I’m an idiot.” Elijah smiled, the first genuine one he’d had in two days. “Maybe not an idiot. Let’s go with socially-stunted in personal matters.” -Elijah’s reasoning made me think of the phrase “love means never having to say you’re sorry”, lol. Once given that green light, proximity to “his shapeshifter” was magnetic, as evidenced by his cheek kissing and tongue fucking, lol. I do hope Kage accedes to Elijah’s plea for one more night of passion….as Elijah realized earlier in the chapter, tomorrow wasn’t promised whichever road they chose so live in the here and now. The description given of Huntington reminded me of how often evil can be wrapped up in a beautiful exterior. His lion would be a sight, not only because of his majestic appearance but because the cold calculation behind his eyes would have no more filter and I think it would be fearsome. Who was the predator in that meeting and who was the prey? Did each get what they wanted or needed from it? Those eyes that never matched the smile on his lips showed that Huntington was well, on the hunt too. (unintentional pun but it fits, lol) “Elijah looked over the menu and decided on the pear and gorgonzola ravioli. Kage ordered a steak.” Food porn!! Thank you. 😁 Until next time….

A compelling start to a still very delicate topic, two actually-death and death by AIDS. Todd sounds like he was a beautiful wreck, lol. There is a bittersweet anticipation reading about the life lived between the two dates that bookend his existence.

That or there was nothing better to do, LMAO!!

Not frightened at all, just surprised at the depth of his powers….obviously that ability makes him a better assassin than most, his arsenal for slow and torturous deaths exceeds poisons and brutal beatings; It also explains why he doesn’t feel deserving of the light in life, he was bred and focused into darkness. Who the heck is his adopted daddy, anyway? He and his bio kid….well they’ve a lot to answer for.

This passage, though filled with the realities of Kah-gey’s life to this point, was also full of the self loathing he feels for himself and why he doesn’t feel worthy of being in Elijah’s life (or having any kind of normal life) also added to the magic of this chapter. 💔 “You want to know who I really am? I’m not just a shadow shifter and assassin. My boss sends me when he needs to take someone out and not leave a single trace. You want to know how I can do that? I can give someone a massive heart attack that kills them instantly. I can give someone stage-four cancer that will kill in a few months and make them suffer. I can give someone ALS and let them deteriorate for years while their loved ones watch helplessly. You know how I can do it? By just touching them! That’s who I am Elijah. I’m the Grim-Fucking-Reaper people are afraid of! That’s why I’m not good for you!” Kage growled loudly, his breathing rough and ragged.” Are there germ warfare’s capable of such things or did this also speak to other powers Kage possesses?

This chapter had pixie dust sprinkled on it….there was something in the rhythm of its phrasing that cast a spell. Maybe because this was the chapter for the realization and expression of love that they will endeavor not to bring up again (yeah, right!!) Elijah gets his way and gets to aid Kah-gey with his mission, proud of his idea to engage Huntington. I hope Elijah stays cautious in his own right, as Huntington might want to draw that little lamb into his lion’s lair for a trap of his own. I also share Kage’s concern that The Fae may have no issue considering Elijah collateral in the ultimate mission of Huntington’s demise. Methinks it’s time for a visit from the dog pound (then again, I’ve barking for them for a minute, lol) “This is the final calm before some more serious business needs to be addressed.” In a chapter filled with amusing thoughts and lines, this one was the funniest to me: “Carina giggled and pointed toward the living room. “The aunties are passing her around like a blunt in a VW bus.”

I gave up a long time ago, LOL!! I realized first or last, our authors love the interest represented by the comments. My method is read, comment then read the other comments, lol. Oh and only admit to cheating if you get caught.

I too feel the Montana crew may be prevailed upon as security for Elijah-Kage knows the Williamson’s can care for Elijah’s heart and emotional well being but they are no match for the danger to his (and by extension, their) person.

I know many of you have mentioned the calm before the storm. You may want to grab your life preservers, just sayin'. Ah shit, I’m not looking forward to a scarred or mangled Elijah or Kah-gey, let alone the potential emotional trauma….I’m here for it but I’m not looking forward to it, lol. Actually-do shadow and shape shifters possess the healing properties and general physical invulnerabilities to injury like other supernatural entities? (Wolf shifters come to mind) It was nice to see the seamless interactions between Elijah and the Williamsons….though he lost his parents, he is still a valued part of a family. While each assassin’s modus operandi may differ, hearing Kage’s reconnaissance was intriguing; I was actually surprised that he went into such depth with Elijah, as well as his willingness to ask The Fae if Elijah can be of any use in said recon. Unsaid (but fully aware by both men) is the reality that every mission can be Kage’s last one; it is his fatalism that keeps that dream of permanence and normalcy with Elijah (and the Williamson’s, by extension) deferred deep within his heart.

Methinks Elijah and the Montana pack may just wind up helping/saving our sexy assassin. While he is loyal, Kage has lived as an island; he knows nothing about that concept being reciprocated….if “his shapeshifter” even smells him in trouble, he’ll find out about it in spades. Elijah is Kage’s isthmus to life and love and he has no intention of letting him go. I know, I know….speculation. 😊

The domesticity between Elijah and Kah-gey was sweet to observe….the sexy assassin took to life with “his shapeshifter” like a duck to water & Elijah recognizes that he wants to keep Kage. (I don’t know if he acknowledges he’s in love yet) I was tickled by the eating quirk (putting syrup in all the waffle squares is adorbs). The scene with the Fae & Trevor the assassin was enlightening-I’ve only encountered one other story with elemental shifters, it speaks to the hardball and deep connections the big fur ball is playing to involve such rare entities. As dangerous an assignment as killing Huntington might be, it’s one Kage will easily do because it eliminates the biggest threat to “his home”. ( I know he hasn’t acknowledged he’s in love yet, lol) With so much yet to be seen, I don’t know what (or if) Elijah & Kage’s happily ever after will look like but I hope they get to have one. 💞 Kage will be an awesome, faithful partner to Elijah.

Exes can always tell when someone is moving on, lol.

That hair trigger of Avery’s is definitely a mixed blessing….it seems he and Clint are a perfect match, makes me wonder if it’s too good to be true….🤔

Somehow this seems the calm before the storm. It was illuminating to hear each shifter’s experiences and I loved the swim they took from their unique perspectives-sometimes it takes walking in another’s shoes (or shadow 😉) to understand their position, as well as appreciate your own circumstance. The two shifters taking off and leaving Tyler alone was concerning….I hope he’s still there when they get back and that nothing interrupts sexy time.
