Carter tends to spend more time looking inward than outward, hence the oblivious attitude. Simon is a very simple person, and he does believe Aron to be that way. As for not seeing Alex for what he is, don't forget Alex sort of knows what strings to pull with the guy

It's all from a good place, even though I know it can be frustrating as hell, lol. But he'll prove himself, over and over again. Totally on point. They know each other well. Even with their relationship progressing, there's a sort of intimacy and familiarity between them that plays a role. And yes, that's the cure for performance anxiety, lol!

Ah, don't worry, you're making perfect sense. At this point, neither of them has the guts to say the truth out loud. For different reasons, of course. Aron, ah, yeah, he cannot believe his eyes, ears, and all the other senses right now. It's a dream come true for him. And he doesn't want to wake up from that dream.
