I got the idea after reading some really old stories about a ghost hunter. Many of the cases he's called in to investigate are nothing to do with the supernatural at all (although one or two turn out to be genuine).

Terry just wanted to be honest with Dan, but it may be a bit too much information for him to take in, especially as he's a sceptic.

Most of the people who worked front of house in the cinema back then would have been in their teens or twenties, so yes, they'd now be in their 50's or 60's. You'll find out more about Trevor in later chapters.

The well has existed for fr longer than the cinema has stood, but Maurice's fear stems from a time when he worked there and someone told him to keep his mouth shut about it.

This story really took me back to my youth and the way I felt about cars and life in general. Some people have commented it's a little heavy on the car terminology , but for me that was part of the appeal. There is some truly original descriptive writing in this story, especially where it comes to emotions and identification of another kindred soul. This is ultimately a feel-good story and well worth a read even if you aren't a car nut.

I agree with you so much on the subject of the paranormal and religion. It's too easy for people to be hoodwinked into believing all sorts of things. Yet, in my life I’ve had a few experiences it's difficult to explain. For example, in one cinema I worked in, there was an exit way which gave everyone who used it a very uneasy feeling. The manager's dog wouldn't go near it. One time when I was shutting down a show, I saw a reflection in the porthole of two people standing near the back wall. I presumed the manager had brought them up for a tour, but when I turned to speak to them, no one was there. Dementia is horrible for all concerned. Some people who have it seem happy in themselves, but others, who don't have pleasant memories in their past can become very distressed. There was a woman in the care home who had obviously lived through bad times in Eastern Europe, as she kept worrying people were coming to take her away. Must be awful living like that.

Unfortunately, that movie was before my time in projection. I’ll have to seek it out! Maurice has had some moments of clarity - unfortunately Terry can't be 100% certain which they are. George may well be able to shed some light on the past. Look at it from Dan's point of view; he's only recently taken on a new chief projectionist so he doesn't have to worry about that side of the cinema any more and now that chief is telling him there may be bodies buried under the stalls floor. Sylvia worked there when the cinema was tripled, but how much does she really remember about thirty years ago? She certainly knew quite a few of those who worked there at the time; Jenny, Trevor, Maurice, Brenda and Colin. I have worked in cinemas with damp, slugs, mouldy carpets and rats. Health and Safety are more concerned about people following safety regulations and generally only get called in if something really drastic happens, such as a ceiling collapsing! Dreams are open to many interpretations. Glad it's keeping you thinking.

Dreams are often difficult to interpret, although Terry had prescient dreams before Cliff's accident... Sometimes it's harder on the relatives when a person has dementia. I used to do maintenance work in a care home where 95% of the residents were suffering with dementia. Their families would often have a cry in the reception area after visiting.

That's right. Trevor and Jenny left the cinema to travel around the world. Dreams can be very mixed up. Sometimes people we see in a dream may look like a particular person but are actually a representation of someone else.

I'm not sure it makes a huge amount of difference to most readers whether a story has only five star reviews or not. Ultimately, each reader is going to be influenced by their own personal taste; a story one person loves might get a lukewarm reception from another. I've always looked forward to @centexhairysub commenting on my chapters as they are posted and value every review I get. I can see why some writers might be bothered by a review which brings down their overall star rating, but I don't reckon it makes much difference to the number of people who actually choose to read the story.

Interesting. I've often had dreams similar to this, where you think you wake up only for the sequence to repeat until you 'wake' again and so it goes on.

What an emotional chapter. It's some consolation for Ned that he will be reunited with Peter when he dies, but what a dreadful thing to have to do, even though you know it's essential for survival.

Good point made there at the end. Thread won't start falling for several months at this point. Hiking across the mountains to Benden is a risky prospect made still more dangerous when Thread is around.

The hardest part for Kemi will be getting away from the Hold. Jevikel and Kadin are often sent out and about to work, so it would be much easier for them and more time before anyone missed them. But as you will discover, there are other problems, too.
