I keep wanting to kick one or the other of them (or both) and just yell, ‘say something.’ Yes, I understand reluctance and uncertainty in this kind of situation, but Nathan is giving Jason plenty of opportunities. And he really needs to come clean about the harassment at work. Aiden in a nasty character and it may well be Jason isn't the only employee he's bullying.

It’s a fictional Green Dragon in this case, although there are quite a few pubs by that name around the country. Ashbourne is well worth a visit as it is considered the gateway to the Peak District and as you've found out, has quite a history and is also a charming town (except for the traffic). While in the area, you might also like to see Tutbury castle, where Mary, Queen of Scots was imprisoned, go horse racing at Uttoxeter or visit the weird and wonderful gardens of Biddulph Grange - shortly to feature in another story.

Jerry's a survivor. He's probably got a few other 'homes' in the street where he goes for food and attention when Craig's not around. Plus he has Madge. we used to have an old style hardware shop in the next village until the elderly couple who ran it retired. There are still a few around as not everyone likes the diy superstores. Shrovetide football is a real experience. I’ve been a couple of times to 'watch' but it can suddenly move very fast heading straight for you. One time I had to climb over a barbed wire fence to avoid being trampled, another to hang on to a branch over the river!

Morris dancing is more of a summer tradition. In Derbyshire we also have a tradition called well dressings, a left over from the days when people believed water deities should be thanked for providing a village with fresh water. Wooden boards are covered in clay and designs pressed into it using flowers, fruit, seeds etc. they are then displayed over a weekend in the summer months to raise money for charities. I remember being scared silly by 'The Wicker Man'. There are some places in the UK where you really get the feeling something ancient is hiding away and may be observing you.

You'll find out more about Archie in later chapters. The pub scene was typical of an English village pub, where most people know each other and dogs are allowed. In my village all the old pubs are like this and the newer, posher one tends to cater to people from outside the village or from the new houses.

“Drama seems to follow you like flies around shit." Never a truer word. And consequences have followed. I wonder if this will be enough to get Puppy back on the rails, or will he go through a teenage rebellion phase.

Puppy had to know it wasn't a good idea to go along with that and although he's naïve, there has to be a time common sense tells you things aren't right. Hunter redeemed himself by taking care of Puppy, but there are going to be consequences.

The healers, while restricted in what they can do due to losing technology, still have records enabling them to diagnose quite a few conditions. Given the rough and tumble of Weyr life, concussion probably isn't that uncommon.

Lots of foreboding as we get closer to the end of the Pass. Nasty things will happen.

There's a lot of story potential in the details. Anne and Todd tended to write about the big picture whereas I like to fill in all of the behind the scenes parts.

It was another bright, hot morning as D’gar walked out onto the weyr ledge. Zurinth slept, her legs and tail twitching slightly. Her hide had taken on a faint glow. J’rud had also begun to be affected by her readiness to mate, judging from how he’d behaved the previous night once they’d got back to the weyr. Luduth sleeps, too, Herebeth informed him. He should have been honest about what happened in the store room. Julie had already mentioned Aiden wasn't exactly employee of the month and although no one likes being a 'snitch' there are times when you have to speak up for yourself. I bet a lot of Aiden's issues with Jason are because he wishes Sarah would go out with him and he's probably noticed her attraction to Jason thus hates him for it.

Good start. I'm a bit surprised nothing has happened with Hunter, but then Puppy is a biased narrator.

So glad you mentioned there will be a part 2. It's a good place to end this, with everything seemingly perfect in Puppy's life, but there are still a lot of issues to be resolved. Look forward to reading more of this story.

I was just thinking that as well. I think it was the mid 90's before I was able to search online (using a computer in the public library). Mind you, I’m in the UK, so we may have been behind the USA in getting internet access.

I'm betting the athletes will be let off with a warning or maybe a detention (that is if Jackson is actually intelligent enough to think about the possible consequences of discriminatory punishment for the same offense). He's probably been getting away with that sort of behaviour in the school for so long, he won't even consider that as a possibility. I’m hoping he'll get sacked and banned from any position in charge of minors again, but if we're talking about the 80's or 90's that's less likely, unfortunately.

Eventful chapter. I can only imagine Dave's motive for having sex with Puppy was a last ditch attempt to win him back. Bit worried that Steven videoed it. That could so easily get into the wrong hands. Glad Mr Watson explained about the situation with Cindy and that they are in contact again. And Hunter. Well, that was one way to try and get Puppy to make up his mind about whether they're going to start seeing each other. Although if Dave finds out, it’s going to confirm his worst suspicions. I’m also worried about the crystal meth. Steven is one of those confident people who think bad things can never happen to him. I hope he sees sense and doesn’t just take it as an act of rebellion against all the advice he's been given. waiting eagerly for the next chapter.

Presumably the reason for Dave's uncontrollable jealousy is because of the insecurity of his home life. Jensen really had no choice but to break up with him. I don’t think the break up is really going to bring it home to Dave; he needs professional help to get to the root of why he feels like this. Hunter seems like a nice guy, but I really hope he doesn’t break Puppy's heart. Max is a great dad.

Uurgh. This chapter is reminding me of a particularly nasty time in my life when I fell under the spell of someone who was charming at first, then became more and more manipulative. It wasn’t sexual, in my case (she was my boss) but she really enjoyed messing with people's emotions as if we were all puppets and she was holding the strings. I really found it useful when Claire tells Josh to filter out the good times from the bad ones and how she used the example of his grandfather to show how we do this.
