  1. This saddens me. Although I didn't know @comicfan as well as some others here, I always enjoyed his prompts and comments. Sad that someone who made such an impact on GA is no longer with us.
  2. This definitely sounds like the sort of book I would read and enjoy. Fantasy novels can get so samey after a while, it's good to hear about one that is redefining the genre (and gay to boot).

    Chapter 27

Jason definitely needs to make a move soon. On a side note, it's great to find someone else who appreciates the old 1930's cinemas. They have so much more atmosphere than a multiplex. I used to work for Odeon, so if it's based on a real cinema, I may have been there, servicing the projection equipment!

    Bunk 21 C!

Your writing conveyed really well the enormity of that scene in the house. Seb did exactly what he's been trained to do, but it's going to take a while to process it. Lukas is an interesting character. I particularly like his comment, 'Why must everything be labeled?’
  5. Feel like we're really getting to know the boys as separate characters, which has me worrying about what might happen to them in Afghanistan.

    Chapter 17

Well, I suppose it's answered one question - or maybe not? Just because Greene escaped we're all assuming it's him. Obviously he's the most likely suspect, but it seems as if his escape was more through luck than planning. But who else might kidnap Kim and Kyle? Lots of thinking to do here.
  7. I loved the spooky ambience of the abandoned house and the fact Miss Wiler had been a writer.

    To the Country

Yes, Craig's beginning to realise there are other options, although he'll still take a bit more convincing.

    To the Country

I agree. Young love, or first love is a wholly different experience. Middle aged people have a lot more of life's baggage to cope with.

    To the Country

It might take a bit of time, but if Craig can see he has other options, he might be able to see a way out.

    Four

Horrific description. Liam had no idea how easy it would be to do serious damage to another person. And thus, a life is changed in a moment.

    To the Country

Craig felt upbeat, yet nervous. He’d had an easy Friday. No emergencies first thing, so he’d gone to one of his local sites and done some updates on the servers before they opened, then sat around drinking coffee with the manager until mid-afternoon. It had been almost like the old days and had left him feeling perhaps the job wasn’t so bad, after all. There were a lot worse things he could be doing, like being stuck on a production line, or sitting in an office bored out of his mind, watching t

Wonder how many people with defective hearing have passed those tests the same way?

    The Secret

Well written opening chapter, giving a lot of background information and a sense of Seb's character.
  15. We read it in my book group a few years ago. Very poignant and exceedingly well researched.
  16. This one is also on my list to read. Here are some others you might like to review: Alan Hollinghurst: The Folding Star and/or The Line of Beauty Patrick Gale: Take Nothing With You Matt Cain: The Secret Life of Albert Entwhistle

    Chapter 2

Looks as if the nasty Reverend is going to get taken out himself by the bikers. But I'm a little bit worried that Timothy might be in further danger if the Rev decides he's part of the mess that needs 'cleaning up.'
  18. And trying to make sure none of the seconded riders are hurt in the fallout. Very perceptive comments.
  19. Your comment led me to check this out on Amazon. I'm on book two already!

    Chapter 16

I had a bad feeling about the way this chapter might end. Even though pleasant things were happening, there was a hint of background tension. I also can't see how Marc Greene could have found out so much so quickly and feel it's more likely to be an accomplice; maybe someone he influenced while in prison and who has been recently released. Or, as @pvtguy mentioned, maybe the lawyer was involved. They were around the same height. Maybe they swapped clothes in the prison (or during the transfer), enabling Greene to escape? Oh well, will find out soon enough.
  22. The resentment is fairly high now that the Telgar riders see the seconded riders 'getting away with it'. As Weyrleader, R’mart needs to consider how best to deal with it. D'gar is definitely handling the situations well.
  23. ‘We’re getting some really dirty looks,’ J’rud said, after he returned to the table with a loaded plate. D’gar was already eating. ‘So?’ The rest of the seconded riders on Greenfields Wing table had all returned with their dinner, while the Telgar riders sat waiting, still last on the roster. ‘It’s not fair, is it?’ ‘I agree. But we can’t help that.’ The food wasn’t quite as good as what was usually available at Fort, but at least they weren’t eating leftovers any more. Herebeth,
  24. This is a great idea. I often browse through books but am reluctant to take the plunge and buy without some idea of what the quality of the writing will be like. These reviews are very useful.

    Chapter 26

Jase and Nathan are still dancing around each other. Something has caused Nathan's problems with his dad.
