Fran is given a most dangerous letter to Gustave from the usurper Edith who wants a meeting with him since his family has been friendly in the past. Gustave will not meet with her and asks Fran to burn the letter. It could build a case for treason by Gustave if the Duke was given the letter. Arriving at a new location where Fran is needed socially, Gustave is very cruel to him. Gustave gets drunk and acts like a consummate beast to him and rapes him. Lothar wants to kill Gustave, but Fran asks him to wait until he gets his title and land, Lothar will come with Fran and Edward to live on his new estate. Fran has more reason to get his well placed revenge.

About that green shifting, Xavier was told by his father that at his time royal dragons-- with few exceptions--were only taught to shift. Things may have changed and the ability might be taught to all or at least many green dragons . They could have an unexpected power and can hide in plain sight. Unless the true green dragon was a royal dragon, then then it well can be more green dragons can disguise themselves with strategic advantage consequences for battles. Greens maybe can shift even with the stale magic stopping Xavier and Garnet. Our sand dragons need to learn the current shifting secret or they will not be able to use all their abilities when facing a serious foe with drastic consequences.

Well done and well described. Loved the fighting. I admire the way the Seandrans helped others and fought effectively without fear and with confidence. They dis not turn away from battle and seemed to relish it. Each traveler was shown to be a skilled. extra strong and unsusally well armed fighter. Unlike the caravan members, they were not afraid of the true green dragon. They seemed at ease and not surprised to be fighting a dragon. Each helped severely injure the green dragon until it was ready to receive its final blow. For the rest. they faced a new enemy. Syth made sure a young fighter was given the death benefit of the dragon. The Seandrans did not need any more death gifting, I guess, but all could use the healing power from the dragon's death. There is lots to be discovered and accepted by both sides. Mablin will wake up and realize the signet rings are real and be amazing and confused. History is being rewritten. Maybe the longtime residents of the age can reveal to the Seandrans what year or time it is and why a drow inspires such hatred. How will Killian be impacted? Both sides need to accept a new reality and to trust each other and work together. Mablin needs them more as fighters since he has lost many of his and will need to keep an open mind as these youths reveal more about themselves. Poor Xavier and Garnet cannot yet shift. Why is the magic so stale?

Even if Travis is taken ashore, his extradition to the US probably can be delayed by legal appeals until he is 18. Will's family can have their lawyers with Charles ready to defend Travis when he returns to the US Brad could sue Curtis for issues relating to his actions taken to loot the company and benefit himself. He could distract Curtis and muddy the waters. This assumes Brad bought the company and has his people study what bad actions Curtis took to enrich himself as the company went belly up.
