Their real mission is no longer viable. Can the rescue sub even attach to larger sub's hull after the hull breech? Do they have a secondary mission of causing more killing and ensuring the sub does not recover?

It seems most likely that the knight has been disfigured and knows his injured body and repel others when seen. Sam and his parents have not figured out why the night does not fully reveal himself.
