Art is the disciplined combination of creativity, spirit and intelligence that both uniquely reflects the world and its creator. Haha.

Wow, I am learning so much about the dark side of human nature, Vic... Excellent job, btw. I x 10.

I like the term "thesis." The first idea sounds much more interesting and appealing and Shakespearean, even, although I like the second title a lot more.

Piano! The human voice, which is the first instrument of the orchestra. Whistling because I can actually do it in lieu of singing... Violin, b/c of Bach's D minor chaconne. Cello just because. Theremin because it's so weird... Actually I'm not too fond of it, but the idea is so neat.

Avatar was... an overrated piece of crap! I fell asleep in the first ten minutes! Just kidding. Due to some semi-hazardous substances, my brain wasn't of a completely even keel when I saw it, if you get my drift. But I did notice that the visuals were amazing and it's got great material for a franchise. Sigourney Weaver is kiss ass! The story, however, is so cliched that it could make the Titanic sink (wait... it did...), and the whole theatre laughed when the two aliens started making out. But then the theatre was in Boston, and Bostonians are rude. Avatar is a great movie but not an amazing film. But there's nothing wrong with that.

When Parents Take Over Their Deceased Child's Facebook Page

Whatever you do, the fact that you're feeling uneasy about the ethical and psychological ramifications of the situation means that you're a good person. -
Good to hear that you're feeling happier than last year -- doesn't really matter why.

Muahahaha. I won't bother to embed, b/c it's annoying to scroll down tons of youtube windows. Mozart's Jupiter symphony 41, esp its fugatto finale: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbPyjcxRafU Mozart's G minor symphony 40, one of the only two minor symphonies he did, first movement: Mozart's Adagio and Fugue, which is the best fugue outside of Bach: Bach's Contrapunctus 14, which is a permutation fugue and the pinnacle of contrapunctal art: (<-- only part 1)Bach's Chaconne in D Minor for violin, infinitely moving, written after his first wife's death: (<-- only part 1) Tchaikovsky's Pas de deux from his Nutcracker ballet, which is the summit of childhood wonder: Brian Eno's An ending: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZeGdUMynSOU These are just a few..

I've used the term "boyfriend," but it feels weird. I think "husband" would make me feel like a wife, but I don't know yet. To myself I use the term "interior paramour" and, when I'm annoyed, "sodding little catamite."

Well, every book that you read affects your life, however infinitesimally, but that'd be the smartass answer... "The Hero and the Crown" was the first book of which I thought: Dear God, that character is me. "Les Miserables" and "Tian Long Ba Bu" defined for me what a *novel* -- with a world, a world of characters, and a world of feeling -- should be. I actually haven't read the latter, but it's in my subconsciousness... "Harry Potter" -- er, got me to write a lot of fanfic, which was rather life-altering in some expected and unexpected ways, one of which was the discovery of slash. "Beloved" showed me what writing could do. "Poets Thinking" is a book of essays by Helen Vendler, and it turned me to poetry. Probably the most life altering of the bunch, save... "Nancy Drew" which got me to read. Yes, I confess to the shame.

I watched the single ladies scene on a whim, and it was most hilarious 8-minute segment of TV I've seen in a while.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DREWBIE! Sorry for being perpetually late, but better late than never, eh?

There's probably a thread like this somewhere in this forum, but I'm too lazy to look for it... Anyway, one thing I'd noticed in the last few years in my environment (an upper tier liberal university) is that there are a lot more lesbian couples in public than gay couples -- meaning, I see more lesbian couples demonstrating their couple-ness than gays with acts like hand-holding and... well, mainly hand-holding. I can sometimes tell when two men are a couple, but it's rarely declared with something so obvious. Maybe it's just a perk of my university, but it might not be. So yeah. That is the motivation for this thread, which hopefully will generate some interesting dialogue, haha.

Aww, too bad they're not gay... Buuut you should still come out to them, because they might know of a nice gay guy who's single. Nice people tend to gather like lipids in micelles, so by casting your lot with them, you'll probably end up with a gay fellow from their circle, i.e. cute and fit. PS I am being a hypocrite.

I think the craigslist, manhunt, etc phenomena have largely supplanted cruising. I've no numbers to back it up, of course, and James's observations are more or less counterevidence. Nonetheless, in my experience, the desperate gay male goes online before he goes to the park. *shrug*

Why haven't you agreed to run with them?? And Damien is perfect for dark-haired people. Like Adrian or something.

Thoughts on "Chronicles of an Academic Predator Series"
corvus commented on Mark Arbour's blog entry in Mark Arbour's Pride
I like reading what other people write about their own writing. Heh. I've only read the first two stories. I didn't hate JP at the end of it -- I was just surprised that the other characters were so morally complicit (or immorally?). I didn't find that particularly believable. Howeeeever it was still a really good read, I'll probably read more when I've more time, and apparently you've addressed some of that in the later stories. And -- hi Chase. -
Musically (excluding composers) -- Maria Callas all the way. Of the non-operatic bent, there's Jeff Buckley and Bjork. Of the non-vocal category, I'd have to give it to Perlman. Gould's a genius, but more a genius than an artist. Michael Jackson also had it. Art -- it's too hard, this one. So I'll skip it. Haha. But, well... everyone? From Bosch to Durer, Botticelli to Picasso, Van Gogh to Michelangelo. Although I don't consider splotches and soupcans to be art. Actor & Actress -- I think very few of them are true artists, although on stage I'm sure that's not the case. Bjork, when she did Dancer in the Dark, was. Gong Li, Kate Winslet sometimes. Greta Garbo has "witchcraft." Audrey Hepburn had that too in some roles. I'm not as excited by actors. Directors -- I think directors particularly fit the definition of "artist" b/c it's their vision that gets executed. So many of them -- I'm no film buff, btw -- Lynch, Fincher, Scorsese, and my favorite, Ang Lee.

Those are hilarious. I'm pretty sure that's a joke blog too because if it's real I'll have to seriously reconsider the human species and go through an existentialist crisis.

Interesting! Thanks for the posts, pitchan and Eric. Here are a few blogs that I follow -- This is the blog by an educated 40s (I think) non-heterosexual. Actually interesting and amusing, with lots of thoughts on religion and the Middle East and getting old. SORE AFRAID This is hardcore poetry/arts stuff. The guy who keeps the blog wrote an obnoxious book called "Alphabet," in which the first letter of every word in the first chapter started with A, and every word in the second chapter started with B... you get the idea. Pretentious artsy jerk. But the links are sometimes really fascinating, and he's an objective and broad linker. RON SILLIMAN No longer being updated, but this guy is young, ripped, pale, and educated. LONDONPREPPY Not really a blog, but it's updated daily. People put up their "everyday life stories" and people vote if they deserved it or if their life got "f"ed. Example:"Today, my boyfriend and I were messing around in his car. I then decided I was going to give him a blowjob for the first time. As I was going down, he grabbed my chin and said 'Don't do that, your mouth isn't clean enough.' FML" FMYLIFE

The difference between a pornographic story and a story with sex is highly subjective, of course, but I would say that a story with a sex scene in every chapter is more pornographic than a story that has a few, extremely explicit scenes. Why? Because usually a story with a sex scene in every chapter is catering to audiences that would like the sex scenes for the sake of sex scenes, whereas a story that has those few, very explicit scenes usually have them as a summit of character or plot. Of course, those are big generalizations, with lots and lots of exceptions. With regards to how "allowable" a story is on GA... that's completely up to the mods, but I think a good way of considering it would be that, even if a story had a plot, the plot shouldn't be in service of the sex scenes. You know -- having fries with ketchup, and not ketchup with fries.

I think there are quite a number of gay men who are very similar to you. And some of the characteristics you've listed aren't contrary to what a lot of gay people do, like the Borders thing. One way or another, you do sound like a winner.

Hey Genetic Drift -- I love your screen name. Tickles the bio nerd in me. And welcome, Blackguard and Neon! (That bunny is crazy, btw.)
