    Chapter 40

Matt will probably wonder about that himself. :-)

    Chapter 40

I'm not sure it's as much JJ as the skating that's drawing Tiffany back, but they are, at this point, pretty linked.

    Chapter 40

Yeah, we're in a calmer mode right now. Go ahead. Relax. I dare you. :-)

    Chapter 40

    You wish.

    Chapter 40

October 21, 2000 Santa Cruz, CA Wade They’d brought the big limo that had been built on a Chevrolet Suburban chassis, and that was a good thing, since there were four of us trying to stretch out and get comfortable. JP and Stef sat in the back, facing forward, and seemed content that things were working out with their dysfunctional family. Robbie and I sat opposite them, facing backward. I was sitting across from JP, and Robbie was sitting across from Stef. I allowed myself a pl
  6. It's so great to hear from you! You are amazingly resilient; I know you'll bounce back and handle these latest challenges, no matter what they are.

    Chapter 39

Thanks. I like writing Will, even though I get a lot of shit about him: He's too mature, he's too immature, he's too bratty (kids aren't supposed to be like that, etc.). That people seem so conflicted about him tells me I'm getting him just about right. ;-)

    Chapter 39

The calm before the storm? Perhaps. :-)
  9. It's a common name, and the first Jeff is long gone, so I figured it would be fun to throw that in. My original plan was to freak JP out, but I forgot how unflappable he is.

    Chapter 39

For the record, I like SCU too (I almost went there), but the issue was more about Will slamming Darius for being lame, and not a slam at the school itself. I laughed as I read the rest of the review, and just nodded, while saying "yep" repeatedly.

    Chapter 39

Well, anything is possible, but I think Darius' reaction is actually more typical than that, one of brothers fighting, like they do. They're growing up, and this is the beginning of them learning to interact as equals.

    Chapter 39

I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter! I think that everyone is coming around, especially Will and Tony.

    Chapter 39

I think Will is getting some stability back, and the scene with Darius probably illustrates the more than anything.

    Chapter 39

I'm glad you liked it, but sorry you got busted. Oops. ;-) I think that first semester of college is a major growing experience for most students. Schools in the Midwest (especially St. Louis) can be pretty narrow in their demographic. Tony went to an all-boys Catholic school. Stanford would be just a bit different. ;-)
  15. I'll second that, with a special shout-out to Jeremy (Methodwriter). Congrats!!
  16. Thanks everyone! I had a really nice birthday, even though I had to share it with Mother's Day.

    Chapter 39

That's a good point. Will's been dealing with abandonment, and while we've focused on his issues with Brad, and to a lesser degree Robbie, Darius is gone as well.

    Chapter 39

That first few months at college can be a game changer. We'll have to fit Tony's evolution in eventually. ;-) Brothers fight. Will's growing up, and I'm not sure Darius is any happier about it than Brad and Robbie.

    Chapter 39

Thanks Mike. It's a petty thing, so I appreciate you stepping in to make things better. Maddy? Who's Maddy? Oh yeah. Her. We'll see her in about 14 years when a biker knocks her up. :-)

    Chapter 39

October 21, 2000 Santa Cruz, CA Will It had been a great day. I’d been reunited with my family, I’d started to repair my relationship with Dad and Pop, and we’d had a great dinner, where no one fought at all. Yet here I was, laying in bed wide awake at 1am, and I felt so much anxiety that my stomach hurt. I doubled over, clutching it, wondering if I’d eaten something bad, until the warning signs finally convinced me to go to the bathroom. I got there just in time to puke my guts

    Chapter 5

It did. Here's a link to some information on the mutinies:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spithead_and_Nore_mutinies
  22. I think it's interesting that the word "mutiny" is usually bandied about to reference the Bounty or the Hermione, both much more tragic issues. Spithead was basically a labor strike, and a rather civilized one at that. The Nore was an entirely different affair. Here's some good background information on it.

    Chapter 5

April 14, 1797 It took them a full two hours to sign the men in and get their dunnage together. Granger looked at the men and smiled. They were marvelously happy, having spent a month on land in a sheltered environment, where they could enjoy good food, lots of drink, and female company. But they also seemed excited about the challenge ahead, and they seemed glad to be returning to their natural habitat: the sea. There was a misconception that most sailors longed t

    Chapter 4

Thanks. I've been pretty busy, but it's kind of like a funnel, so most of the chapters you see now were drafted a bit ago and have been in editing, etc. The problem is that I've been so busy that the funnel is almost empty! I've got some work to do when real life calms down!

    Chapter 4

It would seem. But then, if they're already aboard another ship and signed on there, and the way they were signed on to Bacchante was factored it, it may confuse things enough to cause Granger to lose at least a good portion of his men.
