  1. Well - I'm either an hour early (my time) or two hours into it (your time) - so: HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARIE! Hope you have a great one!
  2. Topic is now pinned (ie - stickied). A meetup is basically just people getting together to put names with faces and meet in person. Simple ideas usually work best - lunch somewhere or a coffee stop. Set the time for about three hours - and if people want to hang around and do more together after, great. Whoever takes the lead in organizing it (Emulated?) should ask people to post or private message him if they are interested in attending. I recommend picking a city, date and approximate time, but only giving the exact location to people in private messages just so there aren't unexpected lurkers. Anyone is free to suggest getting together with other users of GA at any time - but I do want to provide the usual caveats - this is not an officially sanctioned event of GayAuthors and please always use your best judgement and caution in what you reveal to others, especially if you are a minor. Now - having said that - again - nothing is wrong with planning and having a meeting and from my past experience, they can be a blast. You get to sit and chat with people that you only know from the board, and just relax and enjoy yourself. I've actually been surprised at the good turnout at past official events and that everyone pretty much was fine with pictures from the events being posted to the board afterwards. Emulated (or anyone else) - if you want/need more advice on how to pull this off, just ask me.
  3. I had always thought the kookaburra was an old folk tune... Had no idea it was so recent that it would still be covered under copywrite.
  4. Hope you didn't misunderstand Adam, but your's/Sam's circumstance was considered perfectly fine and acceptable.
  5. Definately a tough call. I tend to agree with option A to continue any of his unfinished stories. As you post new chapters, go ahead and post them as Marco Polo but with a disclaimer at the beginning of each chapter noting that you are "Capt'n Crunch", Marco's brother, and finishing his stories. Story announcements under Marco's name would be ok too, but if you do comment on any of the threads, it would be best to do it under your name. In other words, try to limit the use of his account to just story posting and announcements, and even there, please use the disclaimer. Usually we don't like (nor allow) use of someone else's account - but in a case such as this where the original account owner has unfortunately passed away, I think we all understand the desire to leave a tribute of someone close to him finishing his stories. If you have any questions, needs, etc - let me know. Trebs [PS - for those that don't know, red text indicates a statement made from the role of an Admin]

    long time, no post

Steve, Viv, Dan and I had dinner at Downtown Disney two weeks ago when Dan and I were down there. Next time, I'll try to remember to post to see if anyone else wants to join up as well. Sorry about that Kelly...

Don't know yet about the show, but in real life he is... PS - I can finally read/write in this thread as I just caught up on all of the episodes. FANTASTIC show...

    Christian...

    Maybe you're a Cylon?
  10. We had an unusual situation happen here in California last month. At a Stonewall Democratic Club meeting, one of the candidates was a legislator who was seeking re-election. His endorsement was pulled for debate (all of the other recommendations were then approved) and during the debate on this one person, a woman who knows him well, who is a long time Democratic Party activist and active in her teacher's union, got to the microphone and said "You have to endorse him - he's gay". He is gay, and most of the members of the club knew it - but this was different in that it was publically spoken during a meeting (and subsequently reported in the news). But unlike some of the other known examples of "outing" - the woman doing it wasn't malicious, she wasn't trying to pry into his private life - she was just arguing and wondering why the club was even debating his endorsement instead of just automatically giving it to him and said what probably many in the room were thinking. Of course, this happened a few weeks after the republican legislator was caught DWI, having left a gay bar with a man - and that was in the paper as well. Do intent matter? Does exposing hypocrisy matter? And is it outing if someone thought everyone else already knew ("Oh - you'll never get anywhere with him - he's gay")?
  11. It strikes a chord (sorry) with me as well... almost thought maybe something by Sequoia... I also glanced through the titles on Best of Nifty to see if anything popped out... Sorry - but no real leads other than you're not the only one.
  12. "Scar - the Bridget years"?
  13. I'm trying to remember Bridgit's description - but maybe she looks like an older woman... or maybe she just has a lot of wrinkles because the plastic surgeon found that the easiest way to cover over the scarring on "her" face... Hmmm...
  14. 1) Wondering if the picture is of Trevor's mom, or is it Lisa's mom... 2) I'm starting to trust Dirk more than I trust Bridget 3) As they were preparing for divorce, they might have realized they could be both financially better off if Rachel "disappeared" and Dirk was able to use the insurance. Seven years might be the statute of limitations for insurance fraud, which would explain why seven years from declared death rather than from disappearance (insurance wouldn't pay until she was declared dead). 4) Trevor and Joel are becoming too sweet of a couple - with the love of the boat and sailing... just that pesky straight thing - ugh. Will Trevor find someone he'll fit with as nice as Joel?!? Dunno 5) ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH (translation - is 17 up yet?)
  15. Damn - you look great in that pic, Tim!
  16. I had never had it, so when I saw liver and onions on a menu, I ordered and tried it back when I think I was 26. The flavor of the liver EXPLODED in my mouth - WAY too intense. Now, I used to eat and like liverwurst, but liver itself isn't something I'm likely to try again.

    So very tired

Tank a PUG - sure. DPS - sure. Heal - OH HELL NO...
  18. You're not in the images I'm visualizing...
  19. Naked is better - especially those from Calgary...
  20. Thank you so much for posting that Jack
  21. You might also want to read "And the Band Played On" by Randy Shilts (who also wrote Mayor of Castro Street, a great biography about Harvey Milk). Band gives not only the facts behind the early days, but a real feel of the atmosphere and the reactions in the gay and non-gay populations. PS - Those of us who lived through it may not be that open to talking about it as some of the losses reopen old wounds (I had a couple of friends who passed from it, but there are those who lost hundreds of friends - I only really came into the culture late).
  22. One thing I don't think anyone has posted about, is the title of the chapter. CJames is always very careful with his titles. Sometimes they are a diversion, such as "The Kiss" which wasn't Brandon/Chase but instead was Scar's gay kiss. But they still have relevance to the chapter. SO - what was it that was miscommunicated? We saw tons of calls with things coming out into the open finally - so you would think the chapter title would be just the opposite.
  23. Dirk's actions/feelings when he was stealing the cables from the Atlantis indicate the fear of boats/the sea is not faked...
  24. Thanks for posting this Kat - good luck with your company. * Mods - this post has been authorized *
  25. I'm looking through my notes of what I was going to propose for a contest - give me and the other admins a few days to figure this out - but meanwhile, I think I can say - start those creative neurons firing :-)
