I want to make myself perfectly clear. Getting shitfaced is always a viable option in any emotionally demanding situation. Kyle's wedding announcement certainly qualifies. Maturity and acting responsibly can wait. Tomorrow always comes soon enough. I just wish he wouldn't black out so much. Alright, the real reason is I can forgive Coop anything. If I were his friend, I would truly fail him. I want, no, need him to be happy. And therein lies the problem. He so totally sucks at finding happiness. I blame the author. An exceptional chapter, Jwolf!! The dialogue was superb. Kyle's moment there when he said something like "hold on to that feeling for 20 years and give me a call" - yes, it was incredibly vulnerable, raw emotion really.

I thought I had some of the plot figured out. WRONG! Oh well, I'll keep trying. While there was no sex, which was a good thing for both of the guys, the encounter was quite erotic. Very well done, Kim! Great chapter!

Obviously the date was a learning experience for Brye on what he really wants for himself. There'll be no more blind dates I'm sure. So both Ryan and Joel are smitten with one another. Joel has the "I'm not ready to make a commitment" thing going on. I'm starting to see how Ryan and Brye's mission statement is going to get in the way. Really enjoying the story, Kim!

I remember thinking about 70% into this chater, "Geez, the pace of the story has really picked up!" At 80% or so, I said, "This kid's gonna graduate high school before the chapter's over!" All's well that ends well! Thanks for the story!

The concept you have going here with the classic literary connections is cool. I like it. Two things - any chance you could flesh out some of the scenes a little more? For example, the scene between James and Seth working on their project left me quite unsatisfied. I realize you may have plot considerations in mind, but... The other thing is you have two people conversing in the same paragraph. Apart from being grammatically incorrect, it's confusing. I do like this story.

Good opening - the big issues seem to be already on the table. Looking forward to seeing Seth and James interact. I like Dorian already.

Well I just found Tina Turner on You Tube hollerin' out "The Bitch is Back" - Elton's song of course. Man, she's got the big hair thing goin' on in spades. It didn't take long for your spoiler (see discussion thread)to come to fruition. I can see the title of Logan's memoirs already, "Queen Bee...for a Week". "Butt Buddy" - now that was just rude, I tell you. She has to pay! :2hands: Here I was expecting the Junior class to organize something for Tori, like a candlelight vigil, or at least a "get well" web site! I'm growing fonder and fonder of Steven.

Travis did a great job there! Derek deserved it. The crash and burn is almost upon us. I can feel it. Betrayal is a sin not easily forgiven, if ever. Out of rep points for today, sorry.

Really enjoying this story! Becca bring a gay boy on the date? I don't think so. I'm pretty sure that wouldn't work for Charlie. Mind you, Derek's reaction would be something else, in the sense of "You brought another guy on our date? WTF!" I don't doubt for a moment that Charlie has given the issue of his coming out to Derek a lot of thought. I'm sure his plan is one on one. Now I understand that that doesn't happen but those circumstances haven't been detailed as yet.

Definitely a fun chapter! I can't say that I want Derek and Charlie to be together romantically. From everything I've read, Derek is straight. Of course, it wouldn't surprise me that Charlie has been in love with Derek for years now. That Charlie hasn't put some moves on Derek tells me he respects what they have and wouldn't ruin it for the world. Unrequited love sucks but the only option is to deal if you want to hang on to what you have, which, in this case, is something special indeed. What I want from Derek is that he continue to love Charlie as his best friend/brother, be loyal to him and have his back should the need ever arise. I believe that you've said that this becomes a problem when Derek learns that Charlie is gay - not a lot of details though on how bad it actually gets. Just have to wait and see.

Not to make too fine a point of this, I don't find the story sad at all, at least not yet. It's Charlie's saddness in this chapter that I reacted to. Especially when he asks if they could do it this one last night. Lost innocence (or something like that) - it was quite poignant. Giving up the cherished things of childhood, a teddybear, kissing my father goodnight, nicknames - these things must fall to the side. But the sweet saddness may linger for a lifetime.

Excellent chapter! The grasshopper/frog thing at the end was inspirational - almost poetic really, but without the cheese. Well done! I believe there is some jealousy on Derek's part. The exact nature of that jealousy remains unclear. The obuious explanation is Derek has never had to share his friend with anyone before. I always prefer the obvious explanation - it's usually more comfortable.

A truly superb chapter! You have set up the (perceived) major conflict expertly.

Great insights into Mrs. C's character in this chapter. For Derek to see her as a force to be reckoned with is really saying something. Derek's charm is just about irresistible. Again, great dialogue.
