Zach does not yet understand power games, despite having them demonstrated by everyone around him. Will is right that it is about time he grow a pair as well as a spine and think about what is really important. Zach just keeps seeing everything through the narrow focus of his career goals without taking anything else into consideration. Matt and Wade are in a whole other place. Not perfect, but at least they both see an 8 or 8.5 chance out of 10 of being together in five years. That is major progress from where they were just a short time earlier. I predicted some drama was about due in the forum and Arbour never fails to deliver. More please!

Back in the dark ages of the 1950's and earlier we had large state institutions for the insane. People were committed and force fed drugs to keep them complaisant. It was horrible. Of course, the pendulum swung too far in the other direction and now it is nearly impossible to get a psychiatric commitment and then they are usually only a 96 hour hold. So now we have a whole group of people who should be institutionalized, who aren't and it hasn't worked out as bad as many thought. However, there are exceptions and when horrific crimes are committed we wonder why no one picked up on their bizarre behavior earlier. And of course, people had, but their hands were tied unless the person presented an imminent threat. The sad truth is, that even professionals can not always or even most of the time tell with any precision when a mentally ill person will lose it and commit an atrocity. The even sadder truth is that there is so much stigma to mental illness that most people who need treatment don't get it because they can't afford to be labelled and also they can't afford the treatment. As much as people seem to hate the Affordable Care Act, one of it's goals was to increase insurance coverage for mental health treatment. Perhaps over time, it will make a small difference.

The interesting thing about the whole dynamic is that we are looking at things with 20/20 hindsight. We know it isn't until 2014 that an openly gay guy actually gets selected by a pro NFL team. I think that perspective is part of why Mark likes to write historical fiction, taking into account the cultural milieu of the period and working around the cultural boundaries of that time. It sure has set up a tense dynamic for Will and Zach and as many have noted it appears to doom their long-term prospects. However, as Kit points out, they are both young and will probably change quite a bit as they mature. Even a mature fifteen year is a quite different person at twenty-five....And while to them ten years is an eternity, it will pass faster than they expect.

Thanks for the review and I agree that the way he was raised did put some distance between them. However, in their time, the way he was raised was not unusual. As far as controversy, I expected some, but I did have the story vetted by the powers that be before I posted it and they approved it for posting with suitable warnings!

Well Devon was a diversion and it is clear that Will felt some guilt about it. Matt did a credible job of diffusing it, but like I said in my comment on the chapter, both Wade and Zach were certainly in this chapter.

Communication may be key, but right now Yuri seems to need touch more. Talking about things may be necessary, but it is still painful and I can see where Yuri wants to avoid it while he is still hurting so bad....

Thanks for the review. That shower is a dream of mine too. With only 20 percent gravity, a light show, music and sonic waves blasting the mist of water it does sound sensuous. The future I've envisioned in this story is far different than Star Trek or Star Wars. No beam me up Scotty. No food synthesizers, and nanorobotics that went bad and caused a blight that killed almost 93 percent of the population in their past.
