Did Robbie have to die? Of course not. Did 9-11 have to happen? Of course not. Am I glad that both happened? Of course not. Am I grateful that Mark Arbour chose to have his CAP series deal with this story line in a compelling and realistic manner? Most assuredly! I think Brad and Stefan were very lucky to escape the elevator and then their building. I also think Will, Darius and Maddie were very lucky to escape their building as well. From the set-up, it was entirely conceivable that JJ and JP would be the only survivors and I have to admit that worried me a lot.

The chaos is not over. I don't recall anyone at Hank and Jeanine's home having heard about the the Pentagon or Shanksburg PA. We still haven't heard from Wade and all those expected later that day. And the other tower has not yet fallen. That day seemed endless and I expect that was especially true for those who lived it with loved ones involved.

I cried on 9-11 and I cried reading this chapter.

I would give Robbie a break. In the chaos of the moment lots of people made bad decisions. It happens. I think he was trying to do the right thing and gave Will the message in case Will made it and he didn't. I cannot fault anyone for trying to save someone else. We have something called 20/20 hindsight in that we know both towers end up collapsing and soon. We have not seen the end, not even the beginning of the end of that horrible day yet. While we all have our impressions from the picture Mark has painted, it is not a static canvas but one with sudden changes. That day was a roller coaster and I think we are seeing some of that in the actions and descriptions of the characters portrayed. There is a reason for the saying: "War is hell!" It is a very messy and distressing business.

The chaos continues. Neither tower has collapsed as of yet. None of the CAP characters who were there are out of them yet. Robbie is going back up for Hank and Jeanine. JP is frightfully close by towers. Senator Danfield's apparent demise was somehow a sort of dark comedic relief in an otherwise too grim story.

I found it surprising that Jeanine stayed with Hank but handed the baby off to Will and Darius. The chapter was brilliant and evoked feelings just as that day actually did: Surreal, confusing, frightening, maddening, frustrating, senseless and threatening.

You certainly captured the confusion and overwhelming awfulness of that morning vividly. Unfortunately, I fear the awful confusion of this mega-event continues for the next few chapters and I anxiously await to see who comes through--and it what shape.

The gifted trio with Sonic too seem to be ever more central to the long range plans, each in in their own inestimable ways. Thanks for another interesting chapter!

And I will gloat that we swept the Pirates and have sole possession of the NL Central! P.S. The NL Central is the hottest division in baseball all year. Thanks to those pesky Reds and Bucs!

Probably just a little, but the real geeks are found in physics and chemistry.

I suspect that St. Vincent could have decided to assign Winkler and Jacobs if seamen were needed and no one would have been able to question his decision. Just as no one could question his decision to send them to London. He had that kind of power. That George gets to get paraded to Paris is another twist in the Odyssey and I suspect he will have to make the best of it. Perhaps he will find a tailor and have some new clothes made as well? Calvert and company are yet to be heard from since the last minute rescue of the remaining survivors of Bacchante and I wouldn't be surprised to see something about their adventures soon. Is there anyone of Mark's fans who are not completely blown away by his ability to write such captivating stories, never mind doing two at the same time?

I am speculating that the actual day of the event is going to take more than the usual 6000 word average chapter and wonder if our esteemed author is planning a double chapter or a double post? Since Wade and Nana are coming up on the day of the wedding, I suspect that unless they left fairly early that they will be grounded as all aircraft were after the Pentagon was struck. I found it odd that nothing was mentioned about Matt either (as I recall.) Today is but the 6th and the trepidation is increasing.

George's odyssey continues, as it does for the remainder of his cohort to include Winkler and the Santa Clarita. From the plans St. Vincent laid out, I suspect Winkler and Jacobs will be the first to reach jolly old England. Another wonderful chapter in a story that always seems to surprise.

Well done. At least Will and Stef are reconciled. Will made his point to Brad about emancipation and also clarified that JJ is making progress in dealing with his own demons. The strained atmosphere at Jeanine's house when they walked in was curious and perhaps we will find out why. However, the momentous events that follow may make that unimportant. I suspect the next post will be on the anniversary?

Science fiction also faces a dichotomy of expectations vs. experience. We sort of expect some marvelous breakthrough to happen and solve many problems in the human condition and it has turned out to be slower than we thought after the first big break-through of landing a man on the moon. That event amazed the world. But it was hugely expensive and the NASA budget has not kept pace as a percent of government spending. Likewise, color TV was a big deal in the 1960's and early '70's. Today we have Hi-def flat panel TV's up to 60 inches wide in many homes and some have 3D besides. That would have been science fiction when I was in highschool. Likewise, today's smartphones are phenoms. I can do more on it than almost all of the more than 15 computers I have owned since my first Commodore 64 in the early eighties. The internet, DVR's, MP3's, cars with blind spot warnings and lane control would also be incredible to a modern day Rip Van Winkle who went to sleep during the Reagan presidency. In summary, my point is that change has come incrementally and while looking back it seems as if it was very fast, it really wasn't going through it. For today's sci-fi writers to amaze us, they have to think some twenty to thirty years in advance and right now the crystal balls look pretty cloudy. I think Dan Brown tapped into that angst when he wrote his book "Inferno". Too many people, dwindling resources and an ever greater gap between the haves and have-nots. If we ever get space travel, only the mega rich will be able to afford it.

The die is cast so to speak and now we know that the CAP family will be either at or very close to ground zero. The site of so much death,destruction and heroism. I will never forget the images of people jumping to their deaths to escape the flames, including a couple holding hands as they jumped to their deaths. I was employed at the local Missouri VA office at the time and we watched in horror and disbelief. I lost friends at the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City in 1995 and didn't think anything could be worse. Of course I was wrong. It will be interesting to see how this catastrophic and senseless attack affects the cast of CAP and their perceptions of each other. I look forward to the next few chapters with anticipation and anxiety as well as a fair amount of pure dread.

The revelation of the wedding plans and locations sets the stage for a momentous CAP tragedy. Miracles did happen that day but a lot of innocents also lost their lives and more their loved ones. Now we must get through it from the POV of the CAP family and I don't think it will be easy or painless. Senseless death and destruction are always a tough write or read and while I am looking forward to the next few posts, it is also with a considerable amount of dread. .

Chapter 62 had some amazing details lifted from historical accounts which were seamlessly woven into the current account in a totally believable way. The character of Granger is consistent and placing him into a fairly well-documented historical event was masterfully done and continues to move the Odyssey along. Like the rest of the 91 who actively are following this story, I can't wait to see what happens next!

The chapter together with the note at the end were well-crafted and highly informative as well as entertaining. George is a gentleman and as a captain has the welfare of the crew firmly fixed as a priority. Jolly good show and now we must wait for the next installment. Set against the backdrop of the current world situation, the comparison to Fox News was another timely reminder that we also live in interesting times often viewed through the prism of bias, innuendo and half-truths.

The night is always darkest before the dawn and I think that is where Will and Brad along with Stef are right now. Robbie gave some good advice and Will listened. JP gave some good advice and Will listened and I expect will contact his attorney. The issue with Claire and school are murkier and the drama there could get uglier. More please!

I suspect neither would resort to physical violence against the other, but the yelling and hollering would be deafening. But that would still be better than just avoiding the issue. That is why I think it is incumbent on Brad to figure out a way to open a line of communication. He's a smart guy, he should be able to figure it out. Will is the adolescent, albeit a headstrong one, but he does have his role models.
