  1. The obelisk in Stanley Kubrick’s 2001 has inspired decades of fan debate. What was it? Who put it there? What was its function? It is a good example of how leaving a little mystery behind makes a story memorable.
  2. Some of the glyphs in the gang graffiti make me wonder if the gangs are in contact with aliens.

  4. This is a good thing. Chat is fast and requires no thought. It's mind-numbing to watch. Forums like this require that you put a little time and effort into expressing yourself. Some of us have roots that go back as far as usenet.

  14. All elements heavier than iron form in supernova ejecta in a process called fast and slow neutron capture. Neutron decay continues through deep-time until the nuclei are in a long-term stable configuration. Unstable isotopes in nature are still trying to reach this equilibrium.
  15. Cats in zero-G are very entertaining. 😺
  16. What's a few Rads between friends?
  17. Is that anything like a MacGuffin? I'm told that any sort of serious MacGuffin must be fancy, shiny, and inscrutable.
  18. My old Uni had a building called the Natarorium which housed a gym and an Olympic sized swimming pool. Lots of romance bloomed in that building. 😁
  19. Ever notice how this comes up when ever some deep political crap is going on and a distraction would be useful?
  20. While I am quite sure aliens exist, I doubt they want to talk to us… except for the comedy perhaps.
  21. Politicians seem to rise to the heights of their imbecility and power about the same time most people go senile.
  22. The transports are named after merchant skippers who had long and distinguished careers. Raymond Burke, the ship Sokolsky was originally attached to is one of them.
