obelisk - Word of the Day - Fri Jul 7, 2023
JamesSavik commented on Myr's blog entry in Writing World
The obelisk in Stanley Kubrick’s 2001 has inspired decades of fan debate. What was it? Who put it there? What was its function? It is a good example of how leaving a little mystery behind makes a story memorable. -

Freedom is just another word for nothing else to do… -Janis Joplin -
This is a good thing. Chat is fast and requires no thought. It's mind-numbing to watch. Forums like this require that you put a little time and effort into expressing yourself. Some of us have roots that go back as far as usenet.

I usually keep my fiction kinda clean, but when my characters decide to get busy, they can be as lurid, or silly as any bunch you'll find on Nifty. Anybody else's characters have minds of their own?

JamesSavik commented on JamesSavik's story chapter in A Small Glimpse of Normal
This took place In the 70s, while many states were still figuring those laws out and why they needed them. -

JamesSavik commented on Myr's blog entry in Writing World
In the 96-degree (35.5 degrees C) heat and humidity of this July 2nd in Mississippi, my movements may appear to be a bit desultory. -
peculate - Word of the Day - Fri Jun 30, 2023
JamesSavik commented on Myr's blog entry in Writing World
When I heard that the bank manager had been fired for peculation, I thought it was some sort of bizarre sex crime I didn't want to know about. -

JamesSavik commented on Myr's blog entry in Writing World
I have read books that foreshadowed things that only happened six books ahead. -
ejecta - Word of the Day - Tue Jun 20, 2023
JamesSavik commented on Myr's blog entry in Writing World
All elements heavier than iron form in supernova ejecta in a process called fast and slow neutron capture. Neutron decay continues through deep-time until the nuclei are in a long-term stable configuration. Unstable isotopes in nature are still trying to reach this equilibrium. -

Is that anything like a MacGuffin? I'm told that any sort of serious MacGuffin must be fancy, shiny, and inscrutable. -
natation - Word of the Day - Tue Jun 13, 2023
JamesSavik commented on Myr's blog entry in Writing World
My old Uni had a building called the Natarorium which housed a gym and an Olympic sized swimming pool. Lots of romance bloomed in that building. 😁 -
Ever notice how this comes up when ever some deep political crap is going on and a distraction would be useful?

While I am quite sure aliens exist, I doubt they want to talk to us… except for the comedy perhaps.

imbecility - Word of the Day - Mon Jun 12, 2023
JamesSavik commented on Myr's blog entry in Writing World
Politicians seem to rise to the heights of their imbecility and power about the same time most people go senile. -
