Sometimes we have to embrace what life throws our way, whether we want to or not. These two poems are a tribute to aging and the losses that inevitably occur, and how we deal with both.

Patrick has a massive crush on his best friend Cody, and with Cody's leg stuck in a cast after a swimming accident, the two boys are forced to spend time indoors, away from their usual summer activities. However, this deviation from normality gives the boys plenty of time alone during summer vacation. Conflicting emotions bubble to the surface for Patrick when a silly game turns out to be more than just a game to Cody, and both teenagers must come to terms with how they feel for each other.

As I push my boundaries, I learn more about this type of writing. My comfort level increases and hopefully my skill improves. Unlike writing larger stories where the canvas I paint on is vast, there is a beauty in writing poetry and telling a story or drawing an images in a few words.

Our observations are made from many different perspectives. Sometime we are looking forward, sometimes we are looking back, and sometimes we are standing still. Life can be filled with many loves, and loss can take many forms. So can loyalty.

A gay man arrives home and wishes his husband Happy Anniversary, but is soon informed it's not their anniversary. That's when he states that he was referring to the anniversary of same-sex marriage being legalized. Once this is cleared up, they discuss the impact and possible future for same-sex marriage.

Three years ago, Sawyer and Josh showed up to help build a park playground as a part of a mutual friend's Eagle Boy Scout project... and ended up sharing a moment that they'll remember for the rest of their lives.
