Painted Blue seeks to capture the crux of a detective story while simultaneously doing justice to the normalcy of gay men's lives and exposing readers to real, honest BDSM. None of these individual elements are always pretty and I hope that I show that in believable, organic ways.

My work is driven by my characters gleefully taking on lives of their own and dragging me along with my notepad and pen at the ready. Even if, to paraphrase Stephen King, you take ordinary people and throw them into extraordinary circumstances to see how they respond, I prefer realism, stories that could be happening right now with your neighbors, your friends, your family, or even you. And since my characters don't always give me a happy ending, I can't always give you one. Which is about as real as it gets.
