Poem Collection - MythOfHappiness - 11. I Won't

Hey.

So.

It’s been a long time.

Since I saw you,

Since you left me

Do you remember the last thing

I said to you

In that hall outside my apartment

In the pale fluorescent light

Just before you walked away

It wasn’t goodbye

It would never be that

And it wasn’t I love you

Because I would never lie to you

No, it was none of that

Instead, it was

“I hope you remember me”

And do you remember the last thing you said to me?

Because I do,

I always will.

Just before you turned

Down that ugly hallway

And walked away

From me, and my life

“I won’t.”

Aw, it's so touching, and complex too. Is the poet deceiving both the reader and himself when he says the one thing he would not say is "I love you" .... ? I don't know. It's a great poem striding that twilight line of here and now versus the way it was. Love it.

So incredibly sad; so much sorrow wrapped up in this. A terrible cut, a slash across the face with a saber this is. You present the scar to us and I bleed afresh for you.

this was my intro to your poetry (thanks AC) and brought a cry to my heart at the sorrow brought forth
