To Mr. James Bond,

Ello, to you too. Your snarkasm is duly noted, and I find it amusing, plus don't be afraid, I believe I am as nervous about writing what I am writing as of this moment as you were when you were sending me the letter. I am a boy too, 14 also, at least I got another guy to talk to. I don't talk to many guys because not to many take notice.

Personally, I presume I would have fallen out of my chair if I received a girl. I have been wondering all day who I have been assigned to and I know I can't say any kind of thank you for picking me because chances are you have no idea who I am.

I agree a number is impersonal and I am glad you have chosen to point it out in our first letter. I guess it would be hard to communicate calling each other Candidate(A) and Candidate(B.)

Anyhow, I'll help you out, no problem, I'm not bad off when it comes to grades so I guess I can relax a little, but not too much. My parents would kill me if I fail any exams and I don't want to live through it. I'll write to you as long as you write to me, plus I guess it indicates the two of us have to keep on lettering if we want to advance. I'll get by, but extra credits are always welcome. The letter was fine; personally, I did not find it awkward so you can cool it.

From what I can tell, and with the tone of your voice coming through in the letter, you seem like a nice person, who wants to be honest. I try to be frank except it doesn't help me all the same.

It sounds like you are famous or something, well you must be if you are on the basketball team. I would never sign up for it. I can't imagine myself being flung around the court like some dogs waterlogged stick. I am a little skinny, so I suppose I am not one for sports. Combine it with the fact I have no interest in the concept, then it makes sense. I belong elsewhere, commonly where folks don't see me or where I can't hear them.

I have a mountain of homework to do when I get home. Send help.

Until next time,

Sherlock

Chapter Comments

Humor often comes in the form of a misunderstanding.  I made my comment yesterday and I read your quote this morning. I are-read the chapter and still saw it as a random group of thoughts. Since it was ch2, I figured I had better go back and read ch1 and see if I could find a connection.  Connection was my problem with ch2, all those thoughts but no connection.  Now is where the humor comes in, it’s a letter stupid.  You were writing a letter. Of course there are random thoughts. Often in a letter several points get brought up and so you reply to them in paragraphs. Now comes part two of the humor. You commented recently that I read all your works, well guess I missed one.  Now I am on board and can enjoy the journey.

Ah okay sorry I didn’t make it clear, I assume most people read it that way when they are writing and reading a letter. Yeah of course several points are introduced, and since some things are going to correspond with the previous letter, given they are pen-pals it might be a thing in the future that I will mention something briefly from the previous chapter, recording thier reaction on what the proviso is chapter said beforehand. And it’s grand lol, I suppose it can get confusing I have released a lot in the last month or so and if you are reading other people’s content also, it may get over welcoming, it common to overlook something, hell I do it all the time.

This story is off to a good start. I'm enjoying the way both of these characters are so open to sharing themselves in the hopes of not just passing the assignment, but making a new friend. They also seem unusually accepting of each others' vast differences. I guess it's easier in anonymous letters than in person at school, where James Bond in particular might get peer pressure to not befriend someone like Sherlock.

I am reading other authors, plus I am an editor for another author here on GA and as if that is not enough I have been enjoying the books of a British author Anthony McDonald.  I do not have a dull moment. And I like it like that.  When I find a good author I like to follow them and read as much of their writing as possible.

Sounds like you have your hands full lol when I usually sit down to read I read in bulk because there is not enough hours in the day, but nonetheless I make time for reading and writing. Yesterday I read some sixty pages in about two hours, which I find I have gotten slower lol because my brain is full lol.

Thanks :) Well the worse hasn't arrived yet, as things progress who knows what will happen. And yeah they are from two different peers groups so I suppose it would have effects befriending each other, especially James Bond lol. When I set out to write I wanted them to have the same humor and outlook on life, so that is what brings them closer, I already have a plot twist in my head, which I can't wait to write when I get to it. I am enjoying your story also, perhaps I'll be able to catch up now that you have put the epilogue lol. I will finish it, I am just bouncing around so many things awh.

I read the first two chapters this morning.  I think the format is both unique and excellent, and I like the way it is developing.  Reading this is great fun, and to extend my enjoyment, I'm going to read one chapter each day, first thing in the morning.  It will be a great way to start the day. :)

Thank you for your comment. Glad that you are enjoying the pen-pal format. I had the original idea of two people sending letters back and forth to each other; delighted that you approve. I hope you continue to enjoy the tale. :)

The cute nervousness is still coming across in a good way, and I like the little clues that they are giving each other that could lead to recognition. Is this the start of a new and real friendship?

Oh, this story is full of clues and it will continue to throw clues in your face. I have given sneak peeks of who the boys are in every chapter by far, except there is one thing that I have not yet revealed and I hope it will catch people off guard when I write it. This would be the start to a budding friendship... the story is all about the friendship building and not being able to meet in person until the conclusion of the story, and how people expectations maybe are more than what they bargain for.
