Ripper Christmas - 4. LAX

Los Angeles International Airport was hectic as usual when the flight from Sydney landed; Owen led the way to Customs and Immigration with Tilda at his side. “You have the combination for the storage closet, right?”

“Yeah… And you’re sure one of the ski outfits will fit me?” Tilda and Spencer would catch a flight to Denver before connecting to Vail. CJ and Owen had assured them there were plenty of ski bibs and jackets for them to choose from.

“Most of the pants are adjustable. The jackets may be a tad large for you, but they’ll work.”

Once the entry procedures were complete, the two couples stood in the middle of the concourse before heading in opposite directions. “Thanks again for coming and for bringing Liebe.” Spencer leaned in to give his niece a kiss. “You behave, you little devil.”

“You guys need to get going.” CJ held his daughter in one arm and hugged the newlyweds with the other. “Call us if you have any issues. And you have the dads’ numbers if you need something while we’re in the air.” The Australians would arrive at their destination before the Americans reached Washington.

“We will. You two remember to call Mum, okay?” Spencer hugged his brother again. “When will we see you again?”

“Not sure. CJ had to arrange for time off when he was hired and doesn’t have any real vacation time for a while. It also depends on where he gets posted next summer. Maybe we’ll get lucky and end up in Sydney, Melbourne, or Canberra.”

“Dream on. You know it’ll probably be somewhere in Latin America.” CJ turned his smile onto Spencer and Tilda. “But wherever we are, you can come visit.”

“Spence, we’ll video call Mum at least weekly. You need to keep us in the loop, though. In case she doesn’t want to talk about it, you need to tell us how she’s doing.”

“Definitely. I can’t wait until we have her back to normal. Love you guys!”

CJ and Owen stood next to each other and watched the other couple walk away. Owen held one of his daughter’s hands and waved it at her Australian relatives. “That’s your uncle and your new aunt, Liebe. I’m sure they’ll be working on giving you a new cousin whenever they’re not skiing this week.”

“More like they’ll be skiing when they’re not working on making a cousin for Liebe!” CJ chuckled at his own joke. “Let’s go home, Oz.”

Excellent wrap up on this snippet/novella from the ongoing lives of CJ, OZ, Liebe and their extended family and Squad. Some nicely laid groundwork for future stories:  CJ's first posting with 'State', possible vendange/harvest events at Liston Estate ...

Best wishes Carlos to you for a Merry Christmas, what ever holidays you celebrate,  and a healthy, prosperous and Happy New Year in 2020. (may all your visions be perfect... bad pun).

😉

Happy Christmas, Anton-

My wish for 2020 is my stories continue to provide entertainment to all of you. The best present I'll get this year is the warmth of reader comments. May the new year bring you health and happiness.

Great ending Carlos.....

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!!!  May your hopes/dreams come true and your goals be obtained.  Take the time to tell/show those you care for exactly what you feel for them.  They may not always be close enough to do so.

Jay

Same to you, Jay.

I'm looking forward to my youngest brother, his wife, and my two young nephews coming down from Chicago this week. Considering the forecast's for a warm and sunny day, I think they'll be happy to escape the dreary weather up north.

Merry Christmas! A nice end to an all-too-brief sojourn across the world. I’ve no doubt Liebe could have a cousin in the not too distant future. Hope that little girl is ready for adventure - CJ’s first posting could be quite obscure. But I’m sure you’ll write to us about it, yes?

LMAO

Yep, there's a novel for that. I had a fraternity brother who's dad was a diplomat. Carter had some great tales about living overseas when he was a kid. Hopefully Liebe and her siblings will too.

Merry Christmas and may 2020 bring us more adventures of the Squad 😘🎄🎄🎄🎉🎉🎉

LOL

We'll start the year off with a new story with all new characters. I think you'll enjoy it. I can promise at least one Squad-centric story since it's written and maybe two if I can get the other one done. For the last six months I've been trying to do some cleaning on older stuff and revisited some other characters so you'll see those first.

Hope you have a great Christmas!

Thanks for another great story, Carlos. I enjoy how CJ matures from story to story. His dads' and their friends' support, love, advice, and themselves-as-examples -- as well as Owen's love and calm presence -- are evident in how the scared, hurt and angry teenager turned into the self-possessed, considerate man, able to express his anger without exploding on everyone, CJ is now. Bravo! I look forward to more stories about CJ, Owen, and the squad members.

Happy New Year and a healthy, prosperous and joy-filled 2020 to you, your kith and kin, and all your readers!

I'm glad you've noticed. We met CJ at 15, he turned 23 in this story, and I've tried to show growth. The basic personality and instincts are still there, but he can now joke with Pam instead of snapping at her comments, and it's him running his hand down Owen's back trying to calm him. There's a purpose to everything I throw into a story, sometimes it's obvious, sometimes not. And sometimes it's crazy because I want to have fun. :)

CJ will still explode at times, but so do Brett and Cesar who are his idols. I think those two have done a good job raising their son.
