Tests of Blood

I absolutely love Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar world and I own ALL the novels in that world.  This story takes place in the future state of any of the published works and doesn't really require you to know much about the world itself.  Unlike most FanFictions, this takes the world of Valdemar and the characters are descendants of some of the famous people in the novels. 

It works very well and is emotionally engaging with plenty of political intrigues that dkstories specializes in.  Well worth the read!

dkstories crafted many wonderful gifts to us all.  I personally believe this was one of the best.  The character development, plotting and flow were simply first rate.  One of the best things was you could fully invest yourself in and enjoy this story no matter your connection to the original source material.  

The level of detail and intensity that can be found in this story really cannot be surpassed.  Everyone sit back and prepare to be amazed...

I have not read the source novels, but it did not lessen my enjoyment of this story!  Great fantasy and adventure, very well written.

I also live Misty's Valdemar books and think this story should be in one of Misty's Heralds of Valdemar books (those short story compilations) it's that good!

I have not read all of the official books in the Valdemar series. I've read the Herald-Mage Trilogy that dealt with Vanyel Ashkervon, and the events that surrounded him. This story is fantastic and fun read. It's built upon the lore of the series, and as others have said adds to the world lore that other FanFiction does not.

The main character, Dalen Valdemar Ashkervon, is the descendant in Vanyel's family lineage. He fears history repeating itself, and even fears being chosen. Events in the kingdom conspire to thrust the latest Ashkervon Adept level Mage into the trials of history.

I highly recommend the story, to anyone that likes High Fantasy, or the World that Mercedes Lackey created.

I always enjoy reading Tests of Blood and come back to it occassionally. I have never read the original works of Mercedes Lackey but I feel DKstories does great justice simply because of how alive the world feels when reading, and how good the characters are. Enjoyable to the end!

This story was originally posted by DKSTORIES under a different pen name which for the life of me I cannot remember.  However, this story is a fantasy fan fiction story set in Mercedes Lackey Valdemar world and it is a delight.  Magic is a complex gift which can have a price.  Young Prince Dalen is the central character and his challenges and responses to them are the grist of legend!  Read and enjoy!

I read this a while ago. Twice. It was what caused me to read a few of the Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar books. This story fits seamlessly into the world of Valdemar being a fantastic and believable FanFiction addition to that world and complements the lore. 

When is the next volume being written? Hint! Hint! We want more!
