We all want `Special` to last forever.

Words to Match the Music in my Head

 

 

Still

 

 

When I’m a shadow

Of my former shelf

Hair lost in the wind

And teeth on a shelf

 

When my bones creak

As I get up and down

And when my face

Wears a permanent frown

 

Will I still be your

Sweet teddy bear

Wherever you are

Will you want me there

 

Will your heart still race

When I touch your skin

Will you still wonder

‘Where the hell I’ve been’

 

Will I still drive you crazy

In that special way

Will you still listen

To all the things I say

 

When I’m a shadow

Of my former self

Yeah just a shadow

Of my former self

 

Will you still want to

Hold my hand in the car

Still look at me fondly

While I dance at a bar

 

Make every Birthday

Such a special thing

Not make a face

When I try to sing

 

Make stupid jokes

When I’m feeling down

Get all goofy

And act like a clown

 

Just to see me

Give you my special smile

For that will you still

Go an extra mile

 

When I’m a shadow

Of my former self

Hair lost in the wind

And teeth on a shelf

 

When my sunset comes

And I take my bow

Will you still love me

The way you do now

 

When I become ashes

In an urn on a shelf

Will you still think fondly

Of my former self

Just a little ditty from my rather strange brain.

I think this is something we must all face as we grow older. I met my husband when I was 20, now I'm 42....does he see me the same...will I still be his joy when I'm 60? 80? A very touching song Gary. I think you struck very close to home for most of your readers with this one.

Out of likes right now, but I enjoyed this. He's asking about the future but by the same token we learn what makes their relationship loving and wonderful right now.

Exactly right, Tim. What they have is so special, he wants reassurance it will never die, even when he does. Thank you so much... Cheers...

With the pressure to always have the best, the newest - sometimes that translates to relationships and can make the people in them start to feel insecure as they age and THEY feel like they have lost what made them attractive to the other person in the first place.

Interesting take on this song, Eagle... I guess it does, in a way, translate to relationships. I think a little insecurity is a part of aging, and it's okay. A lot, however, can be very damaging. He's asking for a little reassurance from the guy he loves,and if the guy loves him, he gives it to him, and all is well. there's nothing wrong with wanting to feel special, even in old age. Thanks for a great review...cheers...

What will the future bring to any relationship? Some love and reassurance from your partner seems to make all of the worlds troubles disappear. I hear a slow haunting melody underneath your words, something to tug at heartstrings.

:heart::hug: There's no way I can say anything right now--I can hardly see to type thanks to the tears. They started before I was even half done, and wouldn't stop even when I finished.
Maybe he wants the reassurance, but I also sense that he already knows the answer.

Thank you, Bucket, I hear the same slow melody weaving through the words. We all need reassurance once in a while, especially from the one we love. I really appreciate your thoughts... cheers...

CG... I love that you are as emotional as I am. This one was personal, and made me feel that way while writing it. I'm so happy you felt this the way you did... and yes he did know the answer...he just needed to hear it... cheers...

Well, can't personally comment on THIS one! lol

 

Seriously though, I think everyone, no matter what their gender or sexuality, can be a bit insecure with how they'll 'measure up' as the years progress. A person's feelings for their partner may change in time, and vice-versa. I think as long as the love is strong, and you continue to do the little things that matter for your partner to show how much you love him, then that love will continue through the years. So much so that when there's an urn of ashes up on a mantle, tears will be shed from thinking of the person with love, not just fondness.

 

Let's see, how many chapters are left, Gary? I need to know if I gotta run out and buy more Kleenex.

I think he already knows the answer to his questions... he just wants that reassurance that the very special thing they have is timeless. In a way, it's a thank you for what this person already gives him. It's a love for the ages. Thanks for another wonderful review... poetry, I'm learning, has a small audience, so I love the feedback because I'm really enjoying this new foray... cheers... Gary
