Words to Match the Music in my Head - 7. Chapter 7 Love Letter

Sometimes it's easier to write it than to say it.

Words to Match the Music in my Head

Chapter7 Love letter

It may be passé, and it may be uncool

There may be ways to say it better

But for the words I struggle to say to you

I’ll use the tried and true love letter

In all these years, I’ve never needed

To write down how I feel

But something’s changed now in my life

And I have to tell you my feelings are real

So good or bad, happy or sad

Whether forever or only a day

No matter how this all turns out

I’m so thankful you came my way

It may be passé, and it may be uncool

There may be ways to say it better

But for the words I struggle to say to you

I’ll use the tried and true Love Letter

Even when you call me on the telephone

There is so much I try to say

But when it comes to speaking it out loud

My heart gets in the way

So I’m writing you this letter

Full of words of faith and love

Hoping you mean it when you say

I’m the only one you dream of

It may be passé, and it may be uncool

There may be ways to say it better

But for the words I struggle to say to you

I’ll use the tried and true Love Letter

Your touch, your kiss, your smile, your smell

Have awoken something wonderful in me

Taken me out of my personal hell

And released me from my fears to just be

Where there’s joy, there can also be pain

When you’re not here, I feel an ache inside

But you’re my sunshine, as well as my rain

And I want you to know I'm along for the ride

It may be passé, and it may be uncool

There may be ways to say it better

But for the words I struggle to say to you

I’ll use the tried and true Love Letter

So there you have it in my old fashioned way

I just wanted you to know where my head was at

There’s not much more that I can say

I’m not good with my words, and I’m sorry for that

I pray this makes up for some of my awkward silence

When you said things that got no reply

Or when I answered and it didn’t make sense

I hope that now you can understand why

It may be passé, and it may be uncool

There may be ways to say it better

But for the words I struggle to say to you

I’ll use the tried and true love letter

In all these years, I’ve never needed

To write down how I feel

But something’s changed now in my life

And I have to tell you my feelings are real

I’ll spell it out more clearly if I can

And not make the mess that I usually do

This is my way of saying my heart

And my heart says, ‘I love you’

:thankyou: for your lovely words today.
It's not the medium you choose that is important.
What is important is that you say it at all, whichever way you can.
True love understands and accepts our foibles without judgement or qualifiers.
True love need not be spoken but expressed in actions. A love letter is a perfect example of an action speaking louder than what we can hear with our ears. I hope the idea of writing a love letter(s) never goes out of style because it is evidence of a love that can be revisited again and again.

You totally got the song and my motivation... Thank you, Reader. I used to write them all the time... and I just wrote one recently... they are a special thing that is fast becoming a remnant of the past... I appreciate your words, and the review... cheers... Gary

Strong emotions can often tongue tie me so I can really relate to this song. Early on in our relationship I wrote love letters to my husband because I had such a hard time expressing exactly what I felt out loud.

I'm glad you could relate to this song, Lit. I wrote a lot of letters too, and I find myself wondering if they still exist. It appears to be becoming a lost art, which is a shame...it can be a very personal way to communicate your feelings. Good handwriting is not as valued as it used to be. I thank you for the review... cheers... Gary...

When I went away to college, a friend gave my mum a letter to get to me. In it she described herself leaving no doubt as to who she was. Then she poured her heart out. I had no idea. She said when I went away she thought her feelings would go away too but they didn't. Writing to me was the only way she knew how to make it go away. We are really good friends now, and hers is not the only love letter I've received but it's the one I cherish the most.. So, yeah, love letters, I get it.

This was another beautiful poem, Gary.

Reader said it all when he/she said that love letters never go out of style. You can read a love letter over and over and over again, and smile or laugh or cry each time.

Great story...sad but good that you are friends now. Pen to paper is different from writing on a keyboard... there's an intimacy to it that a lot of younger people wouldn't understand. There is something special about being able to hold onto someone's words and thoughts forever, and take them out when want to read them again. Thanks, Def, for a lovely review... cheers... Gary

Thank you, Lisa... and yes, Reader did say it beautifully. I'm still a little surprised that some people like my songs and poems, but I love it... the support and the writing of these... thanks for the nice review, Lisa... it means a lot...cheers... Gary
