He walks, like a lonely panther in springtime
She walks, like a wounded deer in fall
They look, like they’ve lost the world between them
They’re hurt, because they couldn’t have it all
He feels, like the world won’t open to him
She feels, like all her dreams have died
They know, nothing takes away the sadness
Sometimes, fate will take you for a ride
The blame, does not rest lightly on his shoulders
It’s not, how their life was meant to go
The shame, well it never really leaves her
Fairy-tale beginnings, oh, but little did they know
Sometimes, life can tease you with its blessings
Give you love, and let you know that you’re alive
Set you up, so you never see it coming
Just to steal it all away, in one five-minute drive
He walks, like a lonely panther in springtime
She walks, like a wounded deer in fall
They look, like they’ve lost the world between them
They’re hurt, because they couldn’t have it all
Four years, they’d be married in September
Two months, was all the baby had to go
Three drinks, was all that he'd had during dinner
For them, there’d be a cost they didn’t know
He says, that he never saw it coming
She says, she was just too tired to drive
They know, that the guilt will never leave them
They grieve, for the child that didn’t arrive

They hurt, because they couldn’t have it all
He wants, her to look at him the old way
She wants, him to take back those three drinks
They know, that there’s two of them to blame here
They don’t, want to know what the other thinks
Who knows, if they ever will escape from
A feeling, that they let each other down
Will time, ever help them to recover
From the loss, of a cry that’ll never sound

They act, like they lost the world between them
They hurt, because they’ll never have it all
They’ve tried, reaching out to one another
Move past, the loss and all its pain
So far, there’s this emptiness inside them
At times, it feels there's nothing to regain
