Shadow of my Father - 22. Chapter 22

(CESAR’S POINT OF VIEW)

Before I knew it, it is time for me to go. Friday evening through the night and all day Saturday went by way too fast. I enjoyed every single minute of it. I got treated like one of the family. That surprised me the most with Daniel and Carlos. I guess poor Chris took the brunt of it all.

Although Josh’s father doesn't care we have sex or not as long as we are careful, Josh and I never got a chance to have any sex. I have never been as horny as I have been this weekend; hornier than I have ever been in my entire life!

Seeing Josh in his element, at home, shined a different light on him. At school we’re always dressed in our school clothes, nicely combed hair, you know always looking our best. Spending the night with Josh let me see a different side. A side at has made me love him even more.

As we walked to my house, I couldn't help but clutch onto Josh. The moment we walked out of his house. I grab a hold of his hand and haven't let go since. At first, we walked in silence, and finally I broke the silence.

“I love being in your house Josh. Your family is so cool. I would never have thought that your dad is the Governor to be. He doesn't act like a man just elected to the highest office in this State or the man that has been in charge of our entire army.”

“Well, my dad has gotten cooler through the years. In fact, he feels he owes us now for the time he has lost out in the years the past. You know, our childhood years. To me, I don't hold anything he's done in the past against him. I know his job is to support the family money wise. My mom’s job was to bring us up the best the way she knew how.”

I smiled up at Josh and rewrapped my hand in his. We joked with each other all the way to my house. The security detail went in before we did. Just ensure there was no one there to harm Josh. After they cleared the house, they got out and allowed me and Josh to go in. I am thankful they are respecting our privacy.

We headed up to my room to be together in private. Right away we sat on my bed and started kissing each other. We started rolling around the bed from one side to the other but not really trying to get into each others pants. We are just very nervous, I think, this being our very first time.

I finally got up on top pinning Josh's arms behind his head. Looking down at him, I couldn't help but giggle. He is actually smiling up at me. All of a sudden Josh lifted his head and started kissing me.

“I love you so much Cesar! I never thought I could feel this way again with anybody! You have shown me that I can love again. This is so amazing.”

I looked down at Josh trying to figure out a response to him. Nothing came to mind, except to tell him I love him as well. We started kissing again. We stood up, stumbling around my bed just kissing each other. We kiss every piece of skin that our lips can touch on each other.

I heard the front door open, and I jumped out of the bed. Although Josh's dad is cool, mine isn’t. I quickly straightened out my clothes. I pulled Josh off the bed and he did the same with his clothes.

Just as my dad open my bedroom door, Josh and I were about to walk out. My dad looked at me then over to Josh. He doesn't look mad, but he doesn't look happy either. I really can’t explain it. It’s one of those things to appreciate, you’d have to be there.

“What are you two boys doing a lone in your bedroom Cesar? I have told you several times that whenever you have guests in this house and I am not home you and your guests are supposed to be in the living room.”

“Sorry dad this won’t happen again, I promise!”

I grabbed a hold of Josh's hand and pulled him out of my room, past my dad. I didn't let go of Josh's hand until we reached the front door of the house. Before opening the door, I turned him around, and gave him one last, long kiss. I won’t be able to kiss Jacob again until Monday. This kiss is going to have to last me till then.

Just as we broke the kiss, my dad passed by, heading to the kitchen. I opened the door and Jacob walked out. I stood there is watching Jacob walking down the sidewalk towards his house. Every so often he would turn around and wave at me.

Once Jacob was out of sight, I walked back in and closed the door. Not wanting to get into another fight with my dad I headed back to my room. I went and lay back on my bed as soon as I shut the door. I couldn't stop smelling my sheets. I want to keep Jacob’s smell in my room as long as possible.

(DANIEL SR’s POINT OF VIEW)

Just as I got out of the elevator, Rich pushed be back in. I looked at him like he was out of his mind as he hit the lobby button on the elevator. This isn't a good way to start off a Monday morning, I thought.

“General, I was able to pull a few strings for you and get you in court today. In fact I got you into see a judge at nine this morning. Martha got served a subpoena yesterday morning to appear in court this morning. I know she got it because she signed for it.”

“WOW, you work fast Rich! What is the court willing to hear today? Is it just a motion to keep her away from the kids or the entire divorce?”

“As far as I know he is willing to hear the entire divorce including a motion to keep her away from not only Josh, but your other two sons as well. Once we get it in court and get the ball rolling it should work out a lot better for you, your kids and financially.

Also, I figure we should talk a little office talk on the way to court. I looked up the law concerning those church groups or other groups that are not affiliated with the church, but that do the same type of thing. We were misinformed about the law as written.

It is illegal for a group like that to take a child forcefully like they did with Josh. Where they are wrong, is on the signatures needed. If both of the parents are active in the child's life, both parents need to sign the contract giving that organization permission to not only put a child in their program, but also to take that child by force if needed!

Sir, they broke the law. I recommend…..”

“No need to recommend anything Rich. Let's take care Martha right now and then let's take care of that church group. I need to know now is several things from you starting with how many of these groups or churches that have these ‘programs’ there are and who all is affiliated with them. Then, we need to know where they take these kids.

I know this church isn't by itself. When they broke the law, anything that is affiliated with this church is affected with what they did. That means we not only shut down this group’s program, but we close down the church and anything else affiliated with this church.”

“You know, I never thought of it that way. I actually was only going after this group to start out with. The way you put it we can actually go after anything this church owns, operates or is affiliated with, I like that plan.

Just then we reached the courthouse, but headed around back. Rich explained to me that I need to enter into the court house by a private entrance that is secure. Then go up the private elevators that exit into the back halls of the courtrooms on the floor. There we walk over to the court room where my case is being heard.

I have no problem with any of that at all. I would rather go into the back in private entrance. That way no one will see me in this courthouse until it is too late to contact the press. I want to notify the press about the divorce on my own time table.

“General, another thing, I got you one of the best divorce attorneys in town. I feel it is best to let him handle this because neither of us knows divorce law. I want the best in front of that judge so you have the best chance to get what you want in this divorce”

I looked over to Rich wondering where he knows all these people. I am not concerned, just surprised he is able to get things to happen as quickly as he does. It works in my favor, so I don’t really care. The details of his ways and means are not on my ‘need to know’ radar.

“I have no problem with that Rich. I will just sit there and watch the show. I wonder if my wife is going to have a lawyer as well. I frankly don’t care if she has one or not. I am tired of dealing with her crap.”

We walked through the back entrance of the courthouse and got greeted by several armed guards. These guards escorted us to the elevators. Just as we approached the elevators, the doors opened. Not a word was said on the entire ride up to the sixth floor of the courthouse.

As soon as the doors opened, the guards escorted us right into the courtroom. When we walked in I saw Martha sitting in the gallery. She looked up at me not looking happy at all. Rich and I walked to where I will be sitting and introduced me to my lawyer.

“General, this is Mr. James Hopkins, Mr. Hopkins this is General Lopez.” I shook Mr. Hopkins hand as we took our seats.

Mr. Hopkins and I took the time before the judge came in to discuss what I want to happen in the case. I explained to him everything that I wanted this judge to give to me concerning my divorce.

“General, let me warn you about this judge. He has a reputation that will not work in our favor. If we go at him about your son Josh and him being gay will hurt us not help us. He has some kind of burr up his ass against anything he sees as immoral in any way. I won’t lie to you; he doesn’t like homosexuals.”

I just looked at Mr. Hopkins surprised as hell. How did this judge get this seat if he is a bigot? He has to have had cases before him in the past that dealt with gays. If he rules against gays, it has to have been noticed and dealt with.

Maybe another five minutes passed when the bailiff walked in and called the court into session. The judge walked out and took his seat on the bench. I looked around to see if there were any others in the room, but it was just me, Rich, Mr. Hopkins, and Martha.

The judge looked at us, and then called all of us up to him. “Mrs. Lopez, I see you don't have an attorney to represent you. I do not recommend you to be in front of me without an attorney. If you did not have enough time to get one, I can get one for you.”

“Your honor, I would appreciate it if you can get an attorney for me. I was subpoenaed just yesterday morning about this court hearing. I did not have any reasonable time to get myself an attorney in time for this court hearing,” Martha said.

The judge nodded his head and turned to the bailiff. He said something in the bailiff’s ear before he turned his attention back to us.

“Let me make this clear to all the parties present. No one in this courtroom will receive special treatment. I don’t care what position the person holds or will hold in the months to come.

I don’t like a case being put on my docket without me being able to review the facts of the case before taking the bench. I have skimmed through this and it looks like a regular divorce. I don’t understand why this case is before me under emergency status.”

My attorney stepped forward and spoke up. “Your honor, the reason my client requested your court to hear this case today is because of the minor children in question. On Friday, my client’s wife took it upon herself to put their kids in jeopardy. This is not the first time and if allowed to continue, it won’t be the last time either.”

Just then another attorney walked in and presented herself to the court. The judge instructed her to represent my wife. She walked over to my wife and took her back to the table, and spoke for a few minutes before coming back up.

“Your honor, we are ready to proceed with this hearing. I just want to make it clear that my client didn't have adequate time to put her case together. So if the decision goes against her, I want leave to re-file.”

“Mrs. Younger, you stated that you are ready to continue with this hearing. If you are ready for this hearing, then we will continue. You will not have it both ways. And before you go back to your client, let me make this clear as well. If she decides to put this case off, I will grant her husband full custody of their children right here today.”

“Your honor, we are ready to proceed.”

“Now that we got all this settled. And every party has an attorney let's get on with it. As I stated earlier, I scanned the file and what I have seen. I am not happy. This unhappiness comes from your corner Mr. Lopez. I am a straight forward type of guy and judge for the matter.

With that said, and all due respect Mr. Lopez, this hearing could have been handled in front of me in a regular court appearance. I got pulled off of my vacation to come in here and I am not a happy camper. I looked over the part about the protection of one of your minor children, and don't see anything wrong.

Mrs. Lopez, in fact is looking at the welfare of her minor son by the name of Joshua Lopez. I believe in these groups, and I believe in the Bible. Homosexuality has no part in today's world and shouldn't be tolerated.”

My attorney got up from the seat and walked up to the podium. “Your honor, it looks like you are biased against this case from the beginning. Every judgeship in this city is elected by the voters of this city. Why don't we just call a spade a spade and move on. You just stated you are not going to rule based on the law in this case or the evidence! So, make a ruling and let my client go.

I will go in front of the press that has gathered outside the courthouse and let them know we have a judge does not want to rule on the facts and the law, but his personal beliefs.” My attorney turned and sat back down.

I turned to my attorney, looking straight at him trying to read his face to find out the game plan. The judge started hitting his gavel against the desk more in frustration and anger than to restore the court to order. We just looked at the judge to see what he has to say.

“Mr. Hopkins, I could easily find you in contempt of court for that statement and veiled threat to the court. I am going to let it slide this time. Now let me hear from you Mrs. Lopez to start off this hearing.”

My wife got up and walked over to the witness stand. The bailiff swore her in before she took her seat. She just looked straight ahead, not saying a word or looking at anyone else in the courtroom.

The judge then made a somewhat surprising move saying; “If there are no objections, I would like to run this hearing little differently here today. Instead of both sides, asking questions. I would like to hear each party facts in which they believe is to be true. I don’t want a life time story; I just want to hear why they believe they cannot resolve their differences.”

Neither the two attorneys objected to how the judge wants to run this hearing. He turned to my wife and told her to begin. At the same time, he in instructed the attorneys they can object at anytime.

“I'm sorry your honor. I am not prepared for this court date today. I was subpoenaed yesterday morning, not giving me enough time to put together any kind of defense. So forgive me as I speak with you today should I start to ramble on.

My husband and I found out that my son, Joshua Lopez is gay. We were given that information a week before, or in the week that my husband was about to announce that he is running for governor.

I won’t lie to you, your honor. I was surprised to find out this information. I had a few suspicions that he might be. I tried everything I could to ensure he wasn't. Everything I did failed because of my husband’s willingness to let it be. I couldn't accept it and go on because I was brought up, just like you said earlier, by the Bible.

I was born and raised in Mexico and married my husband very young. My family lived in a two room shack. This two room shack housed me, my parents, and eight older brothers and sisters. We didn't have much, but we had what we needed in order to survive. Every night before we went to bed, my mother read to us from the Bible.

Because of those teachings and my beliefs, I can’t stand idly by and allow one of my sons to live a life of sin. We fought about how the handle this and disagreed. The disagreement got to the point that caused our separation.

My husband here goes out and makes the money for the family. My duty was to run the house. That entitled me to enforce the rules, clean the house, do the laundry, feed the kids and get them off to school. I felt it was my responsibility to ensure our children have the right morals.

So again, your honor, I am sorry for rambling on. I don’t want to divorce, and I don’t want to leave my house. I feel the differences that we have can be corrected. It will take time and effort on both sides.”

“Your honor, I only have a few questions for Mrs. Lopez to clarify. If you will allow me, it will not take much of the court’s time.” My attorney got up and walked over to the podium.

The judge nodded but didn't look like he liked the idea. Still, he is going to allow the questions that my attorney has.

“Mrs. Lopez. I have a very big concern here about an incident that occurred in the house while your husband was away. It happened the day after you found out about your son being gay. I'm not going to go into details, because both parties here know what I'm talking about. Then you went on to talk shows, and press conferences not denying it. I want you to tell this court why you would treat your son this way.”

“The only thing I can say about that incident is what I was feeling at the time as still do. It again boils down to my upbringing and the Bible studies my parents taught me. A homosexual is lower than any person or animal on this Earth. Because of that belief and the teachings I got, I acted in what I felt was an appropriate manner.

I feel I was in the right then and I feel I'm in the right now. If I had a chance to go back and change anything, I wouldn't. He is lucky I only did what I did then, because if it was up to my parents, he would have gotten worse.”

“Okay, Mrs. Lopez let me ask you this question. Why did you give permission to an organization to take your son by force? You did not inform your husband of this or the school. You need to make me and this court understand your thinking on this.”

“That one is simple to answer. I spoke with my husband the Saturday prior to that Wednesday. I informed him about my plans of using a church group. I knew then, as I knew when I went to that organization that, my son won’t go peacefully. So knowing that, I went ahead and gave permission to use force.”

I jumped out of my seat, angry as all hell, and spoke. “Your honor, yeah, she spoke with me about that on Saturday, but she never said she was going to use force of any kind. Forget all that, I told her no. I simply said ‘no way’!”

“Mr. Lopez, you will get your chance to address this court. Don’t jump out of your seat and interrupt while another person is speaking. Do I make myself clear on that Mr. Lopez?” I shook my head up and down and sat back down at my table.

“Mrs. Lopez, is your son, Joshua Lopez violent, mean-spirited, or short tempered at anytime?”

“Yes Sir, he is and that is why I gave that permission to the church group.”

I just looked at Martha as she answered that question. I can’t believe she would actually lie under oath in a court room about Josh. I have not once seen this kid raise his hand, voice, or anything for that matter, in anger. I am always terrified that someone is going to take advantage of Josh’s kind heart.

I need to get up and set the record straight with this judge. I know it's going to be hard because I believe he has his mind made up. He hates gays, and believes just like Martha does. They think that gays can be changed by organizations like this church group.

“Your honor, I am done with Mrs. Lopez. I can see, she is not ready to tell the truth even though she is under oath and on the stand. I wonder which of her parents’ teaching led her to believe that lying is not a sin. I do not want to waste this court's time with lies.” My attorney walked away from the podium.

“Mr. Hopkins another outburst likes that. I will hold you in contempt of court; this is my final warning to both sides. Mrs. Lopez, you may step down and go back to your table. Now I will hear from you Mr. Lopez.”

I got up from my seat and walked to the stand. Just like my wife, the bailiff swore me in before I took a seat. Now it is my turn to put out the truth. I need to set the record straight as far as the lies my wife spilled out on the stand moments ago.

“In your own words Mr. Lopez, please explain to this court why you feel you and your wife can longer settle your difference and want a divorce.”

“Your honor, first let me start by saying every word that came out of my wife’s mouth is pretty much a lie. There is nothing we can say to one another that will let the past events be forgiven or forgotten. So there is no way we can come to any kind of agreement on staying together.

I don’t care what a person does in life they don’t deserve to be treated less then a human being. To treat my son the way she treated him that day is completely wrong. Your honor what she did was nothing short of child abuse. Then to blame it on her upbringing and her Bible study is just a copout.

You can’t possibly believe what she said sitting on the bench today. If so, then you would allow an individual stand before you that committed a murder, rape, or any felony and use as their defense their upbringing and the Bible. Sir, you would laugh them right out of this court.

She was wrong giving that organization the authority to not only to take my son from school, but to take him by force. By law in this State you need to have both of the parents’ signatures on that contract. My signature is not on that contract nor did I ever give permission to take my son by force.

You have received recording after recording of me and my wife talking. She was notified of the recordings and never objected to them. On those recordings you can hear as plain as day the hate in her voice and her plans for dealing with one of her children.

That's what the recordings prove and look at the talk shows she's been on, the press conferences she has given and her going to this organization giving permission for them to take my son by force.

So, your honor I am going to save this court sometime. I want a divorce. I don't want her to have visitation or access of any kind to our children, and for her to stay away from me, my home and children. The proof is there and I have laid it all out without question.”

The judge looked at me and over to my wife's table. “Since Mr. Hopkins stood up and asked questions of your clients Mrs. Younger. I am giving you this opportunity to do the same in all fairness.”

“Your honor, I do have a few things that Mr. Lopez stated that need to be clarified.” Mrs. Younger got up and walked over to the podium.

“Mr. Lopez, where my concern for you is why did you feel a need to record your conversations with your wife?”

“I can answer that question with a very simple answer. The reason is the way the law is written in this State and how the courts favor the mother over the father. If I were to walk in here today and, with no hard evidence, told this court, she said this and that, the court would not have believed me or allowed any of what I have said into consideration as fact without the recordings.”

“Let me ask you the same question Mr. Lopez that your attorney asked your wife. Is your son, Joshua Lopez violent, mean-spirited, or short tempered at anytime?”

“No he is not! Should this be disputed, we can continue this case and I will provide a fast dozen witnesses to attest to Joshua’s personality and character. Could your client do the same? I think not.”

“That is all I have for him, your honor. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to get a couple things clarified.”

As I watched my wife's attorney walked back to her table. The judge turned to me and started asking questions.

“Mr. Lopez, you told me already what you want, but please restate it again.”

I can’t believe this judge is actually playing with words. The damn fool needs to use common sense on this case. Use the letter of the law and common sense, nothing more, nothing less. He can’t think of a ruling in her favor.

“Your honor, once again what I am asking this court to do here today is not only grant me my divorce but to also take away my wife’s rights as a parent. She can’t pick and choose which kid she wants, and which kid she doesn't. The evidence is before you in order to back up my request.”

“Mr. Lopez, you understand that you live in a State that gives fifty percent of everything that was accumulated during the marriage to each person. Are you willing to uproot your kids and to sell your home? That is the only way your wife can get half of that home.”

I stood there looking at this judge wondering how in the world he got elected. The only way this guy got elected is by no one running against him.

“Your honor, I know what the law is. Soon I will be the chief executive of the laws of this state. I sat down with my wife already and told her I am willing to write her out a check of fifty percent of our assets. She turned me down on the spot. Now I'm here before you asking you to execute that very law.”

After the judge excused me from the witness stand, I walked to my seat trying to figure out what is going on with this judge. I sat down, still with no clue how he is going to rule. I hate being in limbo like this.

“Mr. and Mrs. Lopez, will you both please stand up? I will grant the divorce. You are asking this court to grant here today Mr. Lopez. I can see there is no way you two ever see eye to eye again in a marriage. I won’t force you or even ask you to take time and try to talk this out.

So this is what I'm going to do here in the matter of Lopez vs. Lopez. First I grant the divorce, as requested by you, Mr. Lopez. As far as your assets are concerned, I will be sending out a court appointed accountant to value your property and your accounts. If you have enough money to pay your wife half of your assets, I have no problem with it, Mr. Lopez.

Now as far as your children are concerned, I agree with you Mr. Lopez, Mrs. Lopez can’t pick and choose which kid she wants to see in which ones she doesn't. You have full custody of all four minor children. I grant Mrs. Lopez, one weekend a month of visitation with all four of her children together. All of the children are above the age of determination and may, if they so choose, not attend the visitations.

Mrs. Lopez, you heed this warning from this court; you only have visitation rights, and that is it. Your ex-husband has sole custody and decision-making dealing with your children. That means you can’t, at any time, grant, give, or decide anything dealing with your kids.

I will not look at this case again. This is the final judgment of this court. I hope I don’t hear from my colleagues that any of you were in front of them.”

That was it. The judge slammed the gavel and walked out. I am no longer married to this woman, and I'm happy as a clam. I turned to face Martha and didn't say a word. I started my way out of the court followed by Rich. We reached the private elevator, and the same two guards are standing there waiting for us.

At that point I thanked Mr. Hopkins for a job well done. If I have any questions I will call him up immediately. We shook hands as Rich and I stepped onto the elevator. I like this attorney to tell you the truth. He has a way about him with his most effective outburst. He was able to jerk the judge’s leash and get him on track.

As the elevator door closed, I turned to Rich. “I need you to get information about that judge. He granted me the divorce, but at the same time he gave Martha visitation rights. I need those rights to be taken away. I can’t allow Martha one minute with any of the kids, more so with Josh for that matter. At least he recognized the boys’ age and their rights to refuse to be with Martha even for a visitation.”

“I will get on top of that and see if we can get another judge to fix that part of the ruling. What about the finances and the assets. Do you have the funds to pay off your ex-wife?”

“It all depends on where the accountant puts the cut off. I filed the divorce two days after Martha left the house. What I understand about the law is that should be the cut off date. If I'm right, I have the funds to pay her.”

Rich nodded his head up and down as we exited the elevator. I thanked the guard for waiting and allowing me to use the private elevator. After that, we headed back to the office to begin a day that we are already behind schedule.

I need to sit down with the kids this evening and let them know that the divorce between their parents has been granted. At the same time I need to let them know about the decision concerning visitation rights. I know Josh and Brandon are going to blow a gasket on this.

(MARTHA’S POINT OF VIEW)

After leaving the courthouse, I headed down to grab a cup of coffee. I just lost a battle that I should have won. I really thought I was going to win this by the way the judge spoke at first. Then my husband, I mean ex-husband, threatened to go to the press. The judge was influenced by his position.

I know I might come off as a witch to some and they are probably right, I am. I love my kids. I would do anything for them. I just can’t put aside my upbringing and my beliefs because Daniel wants me to.

After I left Daniel, I went home to spend time with my parents I explained to them what was going on and asked them for their opinion. They reinforced the teachings of the Bible, and what they taught us as we were growing up. I agree with them one hundred percent, without question.

By going home, he gave me a chance to sit in my childhood home. I remember how hard it was for my parents to bring all of us up. We didn't get any education past the elementary years. Here in Mexico, you have to pay for middle school and high school education not like in the United States where it is all for free for the first twelve years.

Since we were not in school our parents made us go to the big grocery stores and work. Again in Mexico there is no law that says you can only work at certain age. Even today, you could go to these big grocery stores and get flooded with little kids trying to carry your bags to your car or wash your car for a few pennies.

After us girls returned home our work wasn't done. We helped our mom cook dinner, do the dishes, wash clothes, and make sure the lunches were packed for our father and brothers to have the next day. Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining. I was taught at an early age to fend for myself, to be responsible and work hard.

Kids nowadays, particularly here United States, want their entire lives handed to him on a silver platter. They don't want to work for anything. That really troubles me because where you get these values and common sense is through hard work experiences. The only way you get those hard knocks is by working.

Now, our society is okay with sinners like my son. They have no problem seeing two guys or two girls walking down the street holding hands or watching the same couples kissing in public. They even have dance clubs that these gay couples can go to. I am not okay with any of this. Society might be changing, but not the Bible.

I am being told by my friends that I need to get with progress. If progress means turning my back on my upbringing, to my teachings or to my beliefs in the teachings of the Bible, forget it. I will never change myself to the point of getting a one way ticket to Hell.

Daniel may have won this battle here today, but the war between us isn't over. I will take him for every last penny I can. Once I do that I will go after his character and assassinate it in public. He will be a one term Governor when I'm done with him. Daniel has left me with no other choice but to do this.

(JOSHUA’S POINT OF VIEW)

Three days left of school before our Thanksgiving holiday. I can’t believe we already have Thanksgiving upon us when it seems just like just yesterday school started. A lot of things have changed since then. Some for the worse, but a lot for the better!

As we continue to get ready for the holiday break pretty much there isn't anything being done in class. I think these teachers meet up and plan on not doing anything in their classes. One maybe two teachers I can understand, but five out of six tells me there’s a conspiracy. However, I like this conspiracy because I don’t have homework to do.

During Glee Club, Mr. Edger is refusing to settle in with the routine even though we still have almost a month and a half before my father's inauguration and the competition. He wants to make sure we are ready for it.

This class flew by quick. I walked in and before I knew it I was walking out. On my way to the ROTC building, I ran into Cesar. I quickly pushed him into the boy’s restroom and gave him a quick kiss on the lips.

“I miss those lips of yours so much. I can’t stop thinking about you all day long. If I could, I would take you into a stall and have my way with you.”

Cesar started laughing, and they give me another kiss on the lips. There isn't time a quick one. We wrestled each other with our tongues until I finally won the battle. At times our kisses seem sloppy. I don’t care. I love every kiss.

Cesar and I ran out of the restroom and started running to our next class. I have less than a minute to go from the main building to the ROTC building. Just as the tardy bell rang I walked into the building. At that point I walked quickly to my seat in order to beat the Company Commander doing roll call.

Right after roll call, Major Moore walked to the front of the class. I looked at him and by the look on his face he doesn't seem to be happy. I wonder what has gotten him into a bad mood today. We were brought back up to attention in order for Major Moore to address the company.

“Ladies and gentleman, we have an honored guest here today. Not only use the outgoing Commanding General of the Army, but our newly elected Governor of the state of Texas. Please make welcome General Lopez.”

I looked to my side to see my father walking up to the front of the class. I don't remember my father being in uniform this morning. If I'm not mistaken, he left the house in a suit. Somewhere along the line, he must have gone back home and put on his uniform.

“Thank you, ladies and gentlemen please stand at ease. I'm just here to evaluate the program and not to make any changes or take away any honors you all have received. So far what I have seen, I really like.

As you know, three of my sons attend this program. I believe in this program and its counterpart in the colleges and military schools. Major Moore has informed me that many of you take this class in order to get your PE credit. Many of you are going to do a semester and a half and then leave the program. I really hope those who plan to do that rethink that decision.

These kinds of programs have been around for decades now. It has helped many get a higher rank in the military. That higher ranking, not only comes with more responsibility, it comes with a lot higher pay and advantages. Look at me. I'm leaving the military and becoming the next Governor of Texas.

Now I will turn this back over to your Company Commander and I believe he has been distracted about to do next. Don’t worry if you mess up on anything here today, because you're not being graded.”

With that my father stepped back and our Company Commander recalled us back to attention. We marched out of the building over to the upper parking lot. We went through a mock inspection with my dad as the inspector. As soon as we finished the mock inspection, we went through a platoon drill.

I am as nervous as hell because my father is standing there watching me drill. I couldn't help but think my father’s speech was more directed to me than anyone else in the class. I am one that is taking this class in order to satisfy my PE requirements.

After we drilled, we headed back to the building. As soon as I took my seat, Sergeant Haney called me back to the office. I got up and walked over to see my father with Major Moore and Colonel May. Colonel May, must have just arrived, because he was not out there during our mock inspection in drill.

“Come on in Mr. Lopez and take a seat please. The reason I called you back here is where we can understand each other. Unlike your brothers, you are just going through the motions of this class. I spoke with your father in detail about that and now in front of your father I am saying it again.”

I'm sitting here in Major Moore's office not understanding what’s going on. I thought, we buried the hatchet, but here is Major Moore sticking the hatchet in my back once again. I can’t understand the thinking of this instructor.

“Major Moore, with all due respect to you in this program, you are wrong. I first came in here with that thinking of going through just the motions. My father requested all of his sons to take this class even if we don’t want to. He says it will build character and back bone. Instead, what it has done for me is dislike this program and the military.

I started to like the program and wanted to do more than just going through the motions. But you, Sir, have made it impossible for me to do that when you stopped me those many weeks ago, and threatening to flunk me. That told me that no matter what I do I will never get a fair shake in this program. Consequently, I am biding my time.”

Major Moore just looked at me stunned as hell. Now he is feeling what I felt when I walked into this room. I took the hatchet in my back out and threw it squarely between Major Moore’s eyes.

Colonel May stepped into the fray looking to defuse the situation; “Look let's do this for now. I have had a chance to look over your evaluations, and your tests scores and I have inspected you in the first DAI inspection this year. From what I can see, you are an excellent cadet. I'm not just saying that because I have your father here and the position he holds and will hold in the months to come. I'm saying it because it is true.

We don’t want to lose any cadets from the program. We are hurting in every battalion in this brigade for enrollment. To be running off cadets isn't a thing any instructor should be doing, even if we were at a high enrollment.

Now, this is what I plan to do to ensure all parties in this room are happy. Your basic first three promotions are always a given. It is very rare that a cadet doesn't get them. From that point, I will look in on you and your promotions. I will make sure everything is on the up and up. If Major Moore is in the right of denying you a promotion, I won’t override it. Even if I should override Major Moore, you would never know that.

I have spoken with your father, and we all agreed on this course of action. I gave this chance for Major Moore to say his peace and you to say yours. Now that both of you have said what is on your mind let's move forward and get past this whole ordeal.”

Colonel May stood up from the desk and walked over to me and Major Moore. I got up from my seat and shook the hand of Major Moore. One thing is for sure, I am willing to bury the hatchet. I really hope Major Moore does as well.

I got excused from the office and headed back into the large class room. Not even five minutes later, the bell rang. We got brought up to attention an excused for the day. As I reached the Main building, I caught up to Eric in the hallway.

On my way to my final class for the day I told Eric what was going on. He seemed surprised that my dad actually came down as he said he would. I promised Major Moore that I would speak with my father but I never got a chance to do so. I honestly thought that my father would be too busy to come down here.

Although each period is only one hour long, each of our teachers has been showing movies all day. This class is no exception. After our teacher took attendance, the lights went off in the TV went on. Our teacher actually put on Total Recall. Although I have already seen the movie, I don't mind seeing it again.

All through class Eric and I picked apart the movie. We have always done this since we were kids. We would sit in front of the TV no matter it is a TV series or a movie. We would find fault and mistakes in them. Many times we would see the excess on the ground where the actor should be standing or the microphone being seen over the heads.

At the same time, we have a game that we play as we watch a movie. Depending on what kind of movie it is. We would slug each other in the arm on catchphrases or mistakes being made. In this movie Arnold Schwarzenegger is the main star. So we look for his catchphrases like ‘I'll be back’.

Just as the bell rang to end the day, the movie is getting good. I hate to leave a movie in the middle just as the action or plot opens up. Even if I already have seen the movie before I like to try to finish it in one sitting.

Nothing has changed as far as Cesar and me meeting after school. I know his father knows we don't have homework, but he is allowing us is still hang after school. This time, Cesar met me at my locker. With not a care in the world about who sees me I leaned in and started to kiss my boyfriend right there in the hallway. Cesar returned my kiss.

Some booed and some clapped, but again, I really didn't care. I just want to be with Cesar at all times possible. I broke the kiss in order to close my locker. We walked out of school and headed towards my house. I never felt this emotionally involved with Chris as my partner.

(DANIELS SR’s POINT OF VIEW)

I watched my son leave the room feeling I let him down. I turned my attention or to Major Moore, and Colonel May. I'm really not pleased with what went down here today. I can’t put my finger on it, but there is something really wrong with this instructor.

“Colonel May, I just can’t believe it. One of your instructors threatened one of his cadets and all you can do is let each party say their peace and let them go on their merry way? I don't run my unit this way. I can’t understand how you can do this.”

Colonel May asked Major Moore to leave the room for us to talk in private. As soon as Major Moore, left his office, Colonel May pulled up a chair next to me. He sat down and put his thoughts together before he spoke.

“General what I'm about to tell you must stay between me and you. Major Moore has been with this district the longest that any of my other instructors. I'm not making any excuses for the wrong he has done. He has done wrong on the way he has talked to your son and threatened him. I have already have spoken with him in private about this.

That should be no surprise to you that a superior officer speaks with the men under them in private and not letting anyone else know that conversation occurred. One thing I want you to know and only you is this. Major Moore is very ill, and we don’t know how much time he has to live.

He is already on borrowed time, General. He has been diagnosed with cancer and doesn't have much time left. I asked him to retire, where he can spend his remaining years with his wife and family. He has refused and has said that his family is this program.

So you need to understand where I'm coming from. I will bend over backwards to make the last years of this man's life as comfortable as possible. Not only because he's been an instructor here longer than of the others but we served together side by side in battle.”

I just looked over at Colonel May understanding where he's coming from. When you served together in combat, a bond is developed between soldier and soldier has to because we are put in our lives in the hands of the soldier behind us, on our sides, and in front of us. We depend on each other to make it back home to our loved ones. Colonel May didn't have to say anything except we served together in battle.

I thanked Colonel May as I walked out I located Major Moore and thanked him for his time. As I walked out, I couldn't help but look back at this guy. Knowing that he doesn't have that much time left on the earth, he wants to spend the remaining time with our youth. I think that is awesome. I'm still not used to being driven around. I always look for my truck instead of the limousine.

By the time I left the office on Tuesday, Rich and I pretty much have the immediate staff chosen. The only staff that hasn't been chosen isn't anything to worry about. Those positions can be filled in after we get to Austin.

As I walked into the office on Wednesday morning, I found Rich waiting for me. We walked into my office right away to see what he needed. The minute we shut the door, Rich started talking.

“I know how much you want to get this church group that your ex-wife got to take your son. I looked at the law and right now. All you can do is sue this group. The lawsuit will be tied in courts for years. In fact, it might be in court, your entire first term as Governor.

So what I did is contact a friendly judge and asked him to shut down this group. After speaking with him on Monday, he assured me it can be done. I got a call from him late last night to let me know the group and the church is closed. It was done by the laws that are on the books right now.”

“Rich I am glad you got it done but my question is can this group or churches come after us? We live in a very religious state. We have churches on every corner. Than we have convenience stores. I don’t want start out with a scandal of any kind.”

“General. I promise you everything was done legally. They broke the law when they did not have your signature on the contract. That opened up an investigation that brought out a lot more illegal stuff into the light that they were doing.

I have been given a list of things they were doing in that church, and in the buildings where they housed the kids. You don’t want me to go over what they found out because it will make you sick of your stomach.

I will just leave you with this much; anything dealing with turning a gay person straight is shut down. The church is protected under the law. It is a religious institution that can’t be entered into by the governments or city police. What we can do is take their privileges such as tax exemptions away from them. That can be done when you become governor.”

I agreed with Rich, and we went on to other business. I am glad he got this handle so quickly and efficiently. I thought I might have to wait until I'm governor to do anything with this group and church. Now all I have to do is finish the job that Rich started. That is to ensure any group like this hiding behind the church can’t receive special privileges.

I left the office staff go at noon to start their Thanksgiving holiday. I left right behind them because I want to begin my holiday with the kids. I have missed several these holidays as my kids were growing up. I have no plans of missing this one.

(BERNICE’S POINT OF VIEW)

Ever since Eric and I came out to Josh and the guys, I haven't spent any time with Josh. I feel really bad about because I feel that Josh might be thinking we are no longer friends, or at least the close friends we were. I need to spend some time with Josh to make sure he understands I am still his friend.

Eric and I decided to head over to Josh’s house after school. Patrick and Frank decided to tag along with us. I have no problem with that at all, the more the merrier. I know for sure that Cesar will be with Josh and his house.

As I was leaving to meet up with Eric, I spotted Chris across the street. At first I didn't know what was going on. I know what I'm seeing in that is Chris yelling at somebody in a car I have never seen before. Just as I was about to walk away I saw whoever is in the car reach out and grab a hold of Chris.

At that point I decided to walk across the street to find out what is going on. Chris may not be part of our gang anymore, but I still love the guy. I can’t stand by and allow somebody is still care about get hurt. As I started to make my way across the street, I started yelling at Chris.

“Hey Chris what is going on over there? Do you need any help from whoever you are arguing with in that car?”

Before Chris could answer me, the car speeded off. The only problem with that is, the guy that grabbed a hold of Chris, never let go. I can’t believe my eyes as I see this car, gaining speed and poor Chris trying his hardest to run alongside of it.

Finally, whoever grabbed a hold of him let him go. Chris went tumbling across the street. The oncoming traffic on the other side had to swerve in order not to hit him. I started to run to catch up to Chris. I want to make sure he is okay.

As I ran up to Chris, I noticed he did not move at first. I knelt down to make sure he is okay. The minute I touched him, Chris jerked away from me. With blood going down his face and ripped shirt and pants. Chris got up and brushed himself off.

Chris looked at me, but didn't say a word I can see tears rolling down his face as he walked past me, heading back to school. As I watched him walk back, I can see he is in pain, and he is dragging his left foot. I want to make sure he's okay, so I followed him back to school.

I tried once again to talk with him. This time as he looked at me, I can see the pain in his face. Tears mixed in his blood rolling down his cheeks dripping to the pavement. I walked up to him and grabbed a hold of him into a hug. He just started to cry as I held onto him.

I don't care who sees me comforting Chris. He needs somebody to be there to lean on. He chose to end a relationship with Josh and in return he lost his friends at the same time. I am not forgiving Chris for what he did. All I'm doing is comforting a old friend in need.

Almost at the same time, Eric and the coach walked out of the Main building. The coach ran up to me and Chris looking very concerned. As he took Chris from my arms I explained to coach on what I saw.

The coach thanked me and walked off with Chris in his arms. I looked over at Eric and started to explain to him about what I saw. Just then Patrick and Frank walked out and joined us in front of the school. Immediately, we dropped the subject we were talking about and started up a new one, as we began our way over to Josh's house.

I was right about where Cesar is going to be. As soon as Josh opened the door, Cesar is right behind him. It looks like they have been rolling around on the floor or the bed. Maybe they were getting into the beginnings of sex, and we interrupted them.

I can’t fix that because we have already interrupted whatever was going on. Josh invited us in and we headed over to the living room. As soon as we took our seats in the living room, Josh’s dad greeted us.

After we all said hi to him, he left the room. I got up and headed into the kitchen to grab us some sodas to drink. As I walked back into the living room, everyone was already discussing what to do.

I jumped right in and put in my two cents on what to do. All of a sudden I heard voices coming from the hallway. It kind of spooked me at first when I heard the voices. I turned to see Carlos and Daniel walking in right behind them is Brandon. They suggested we all go out and play paintball.

I looked around the room in with the amount of people in the room. We have enough to form two teams to play the game. The only question left to answer is where to play at.

“I have no problem playing paintball, but the question I have is where do we play it? I know for sure none of us own the equipment or the guns to play it here at the house.”

Daniel spoke up immediately answer the question. “Putt-Putt-Golf and games has a course you can play with teams. They rent out the guns and the equipment to those who don’t have it. All we have to do is get permission and a ride over there.”

We all looked at each other to see who was going to ask their parents to drive us to the east side of town. Josh stood up and walked out of the living room without saying a word to any one. If I know Josh, he's going to ask his dad to take us and more than likely pay for all of us.

A few minutes later Josh walked in, followed by his dad. “I have no problem taking you kids and staying with you. But you need to call your parents and let them know where you're going. If you don't get there permission I can drop you off at home on our way to the freeway.”

Immediately we all rushed to the phone and started calling our houses to get permission. All of us got permission from our parents to go. Once the last phone call was made, we all piled up in two vehicles.

It took a little longer to get to the Eastside because we were fighting the evening traffic. Once we got there, Daniel Senior got us everything we needed to play the game. We noticed as we start separating into teams that there are only nine of us and that means either one of us have to sit out or we get another player.

I noticed then that Daniel Senior is suiting up. He is going to make our tenth player and give us a chance to have even teams. I think is pretty cool that Josh’s dad is actually going to join his teenage sons and friends in a game of paintball.

“Okay you young folks, try to take this old man down! I promise you I will be the last man standing!”

Daniel Senior popped in his air canister and joined the team of his kids. I know Cesar wants to be with Josh, but understands why the teams are separated this way. We will play one game with father and sons on one team and us on the other. Then we will separate into new teams and play another game if we have time.

I don't know how long we have been playing, because I didn't look at the clock when we started. One thing is for sure is when we started the sun was still out. Now the sun has gone down and we have played three games already.

As the word spread that the newly elected Governor is out playing paintball. We got an audience watching us play friendly games. Many of them started taking pictures each time the Governor got in the open.

We turned in the equipment and the guns and headed out. I thought at first Josh’s dad is going to take us home right away. Instead, he drove us to McDonald's. We all got out of the cars and rushed in to order.

Once we were done eating, we all got taken home. I looked at the clock as I walked into my house to see what time it is. It couldn’t be that late already. It is readying nine thirty and my father is already in bed.

I headed to my room and couldn't help but think of all the fun I had this evening. Just then my thoughts turned to what had happened to Chris after school. I really hope he is okay after that incident.

I came to conclusion that I need to sit down and talk with Josh. Josh and Chris need to somehow coexist with the same friends. Again I don't like what Chris did to Josh, but he doesn't deserve to be an outcast like he is forever. He deserves to have friends to count on when the chips are down in his life.

(JOSHUA’S POINT OF VIEW)

When I woke up in the morning, I only could think of seeing Cesar again. I know for sure I won’t see him today, but I hope I will see him over the weekend. I crawled out of bed and didn't bother to change out of my running pants. I washed up and headed downstairs to see who else is already awake.

I walked into the kitchen to find my father sitting there with his normal cup of coffee and reading the newspaper. He looked up from his newspaper and said good morning to me as I grabbed a cup of orange juice.

I walked into the den to find my brothers are already watching TV. I plopped my butt down on the couch and joined them. We watched TV until our grandma called us for breakfast. Breakfast on Thanksgiving isn't anything big, because of the huge Thanksgiving meal later on in the afternoon.

We have to hurry up and change to get to the Thanksgiving parade. This year, my father got asked to be the grand marshal of the parade. In fact, we all are going to be on the same float of my father.

We got down to the parade route thirty minutes before the parade started. The mayor of El Paso greeted us as we arrived. We followed him to the float we are going to riding on in the parade today.

As the parade started, we took our seats. Just like on the campaign trail, as we started going down the parade route people are standing there and waving and whistling to get my father's attention. Several of them actually broke through the barriers and ran up to the float in order to shake my father's hand.

The parade lasted almost two hours from start to finish. As soon as our float got to the end of the parade, we got rushed directly to our car. As we drove off the security detail told my father that they can’t control the crowd. That is the reason that we couldn't stay to watch the rest of the parade.

We joined our father as he went to the base. He wants to visit soldiers that got hurt overseas. He feels it is his duty and honor to visit with his soldiers on a day like today. We drove up to Beaumont Hospital and got out.

As we followed our father, I couldn't help but think what a great person he is. We did go to the rooms of the soldiers with my father, but we stood out the hallway. We watched my father talk with his soldiers as if he has known them all their life.

One of the soldiers we stopped in to visit actually lost his arm. I heard my father telling him that he wished he could give back the arm he lost, but he can’t. He went on to give the soldier thanks from a grateful nation. Never think what he gave up on the battle field was in vain.

Just like the other soldiers before him. My father sat down and spent a few moments talking with him. His wife actually took pictures of him with my father and the nurse came in and took a picture of all three of them.

After my father did his rounds we headed home. Not a word got spoken in the car out of respect of where we just left. This will be the last time my father will ever be able to sit at the bedside of a soldier hurt in battle.

The rest of the afternoon, we sat in the den together watching football. My brothers and father understand the game. Me on the other hand, I just watch the game to see the guys in there tight uniforms. I actually think some of them are cute underneath those helmets.

My grandmother called us for dinner, about five. As we gathered around the table, we gave thanks for all the good in our lives. We also prayed for those that are hurting and are in need for help. We also said a prayer for our mother.

My father cut the turkey as we loaded our plates with corn, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and the rest of fixings that goes along with Thanksgiving dinner. After we all got our turkey, we settle down to eat.

This is one of the very few meals throughout the year that we are not in a rush to finish. We want to hear everything that is going on in each of our lives. We sit there talking and laughing. Just having a great old time together as a family!

We went around the table talking about our lives. Brandon getting very serious with his girlfriend and thinks she is the one. Both Daniel and Carlos are upset that they had a losing season in football once again and both of them are actually dating girls from the cheerleading squad.

The conversation came around for me to speak out. “I’d like to thank my brothers and my family for supporting and accepting who I am. I can’t tell you what a relief that is, and the weight that got lifted off my shoulders this year. Although I lost my first love, I know I found one I can actually see spending my high school years and beyond with.”

After we all said our peace, we just randomly talked about subjects. I sat at the table looking around at each of my brothers, father and grandmother. I can’t stop thinking about everything we've been through this year. Thinking how grateful I am that my brothers Daniel and Carlos finally accepted me.

TO BE CONTINUED………….

WRITER'S CORNER:

{We are starting to learn more about the other characters in this story. A reader wrote me weeks ago about my characters being two dimensional. More specifically, the characters Martha, Daniel Junior, and Carlos were the main ones mentioned.

Just as I told that reader that when I originally started this story, I developed my main characters right off the bat. At that time, I did not think or plan that Martha was going to play a big part in this story. As I started developing her character is when I realized I needed to explain her.

In this chapter, we were able to get into Martha’s mindset. We now know how she was brought up and her beliefs. Because of her upbringing and teachings from her parents is the reason why she acts the way she acts today. I really hope she sees the error of her ways and changes. Still to tell you the truth, I don’t see that happening.

After Chris broke up with Josh, we don't hear much about him. But here and there, I've been throwing him in because we still have some open plots dealing with his father. I am thinking of bringing Chris completely back into the story, but as friends to Josh, Bernice, and the others. What do you guys think as the readers about that?

We also have Elizabeth out there. If she does not appear in a chapter that does not mean she is finally gone. Right now, she is expelled from school. But that doesn't mean she won’t reappear to get her revenge. No matter how many times she gets knocked down, she thinks she's in the right with what she's doing.

Rich, the Governor’s chief of staff is really working overtime. He is doing what Chief of Staff is supposed to and that is to keep the Governor out of the petty stuff. He went out on behalf of the Governor and took care of that organization legally. He also got the Governor into court to finalize his divorce. As they approach the inauguration and get into office, you will see more and more of Rich. In the prior chapter, I gave a little bit of background about him, but there is still more to learn.

We are getting closer to the inauguration, and we are going to spend some time with that plot. After Daniel Senior takes office we are going to split between political and high school. Still this basis of this story is Josh and high school. A quarter of the chapters will be with Daniel Senior, because it is setting up what is going to happen in the future for Josh and others.

I still have not heard any feedback about the plot of Bernice and Eric. I would like to develop their relationship more but what I want you to tell me if you want to hear any sexual content of their relationship. To me, I really don't care.

So many open plots not yet closed and more plots to come! Just like my other two stories this story is part of the series although none of the characters have really appeared in this story yet. The timelines between the three stories are different. We are a year behind in this story timeline to where we are in my other two stories. So stick around and don’t miss one chapter. Because if you do, you might be kicking yourself afterwards!

I could stay here all day long, with all the open plots already in this story, but I won’t. I warn you though! Don’t skip a chapter, or you will be lost. There is a so much to answer in the chapters to come. Keep reading the future chapters, and enjoy! Please email me and let me know how I am doing at jacobmillertex@aol.com, Thanks!}
EDITOR’S CORNER:

Like Jacob, I’m interested in your thoughts on the Eric and Bernice romance. Just how much detail is a good balance? I think we need to get a glimpse to see just how Bernice reacts to “things”. What is she going to discover about herself? I chuckle thinking of Jacob trying to write a hetero love scene. He will sprain his brain doing that!

Ok, just what is the deal with Chris and the occupant of the car? It sounds to me like his dad is up to no good once again.

Rich, the Governor’s Chief-of-Staff is a truly savvy man and I can see that the Governor’s success is going to depend upon him greatly. He sure seems to know the right people and how to get things done.

I’m sure we’ve not heard the last from Martha. She has just enough support for her bigoted point of view that it will deepen rather than be brought into tolerance. When it comes to visitation, at least Josh and Brandon are of the age of determination where they can legally refuse to see their mother if that is what they desire. I think the judge forgot that small aspect when he set up the visitation rights. Of course had the divorce hearing been handled by attorneys rather than pro se, a good divorce attorney would have better managed the judge. Daniel Sr. however, did a pretty good job of getting the fundamentalist old coot to adjudicate without prejudice. It will be interesting to see how the division of assets goes for the couple. One thing that is going to be testy will be the General’s juicy military retirement. How will the court see that asset and its division?

I don’t know about all of you out there, but I sure do like the political intrigue part of this story. I think that Jacob (hence, the Governor and Rich) has some points of view that deserve a good airing and that they will generate a lot of thought on my part and yours as well, I hope.

HEY! Let Jacob and I hear from you with your thoughts and ideas for the story! I’ve said it before; you never know when your thought or idea will become part of the story!

Until next time,

“Daddy” Rick

I don't know how you keep the various elements of the Jacob Saga alive and progressing. Each has a pacing of it's own. Jacob is the core but there have been no new chapters in a while. Alex is the anti-character and his incarceration in Julie has been an eye opening.

Josh and Daniel Sr.'s story reaches way beyond El Paso. It's taken on the a gay youth issue for the whole state.

In all the stories, the mother are the wild cards. Several have started out as reasonable loving mothers only to turn into shrews when their sons come out. Some have been incredibly hateful and just amazingly evil. I have never know women like that and am seeing something entirely new.

And yes, I do want you to keep the Bernice and Eric''s relationship in the limelight. I think Bernice's father as a priest could provide some interesting twists to their story. Perhaps he could find himself in a situation where he has to balance his human values against Church doctrine to save the live of Eric or Bernice?

You are an amazing writer. However, your stories lack close proofing in your speed to keep us readers satisfied.

LOL a bigoted judge and Martha still lost. I can't believe he gave her the right of a weekend a month hopefully the boys are smart and refuse. Bet that judge doesn't get reelected. If Bernice is bi I can see her falling in love with Eric. All in all an interesting chapter...i see chris is still having problems with his father.
