A Slice of Life - 6. Chapter 6 - Past, Present, and Future?

The music was loud the drinks were flowing and everyone seemed to be having a good time. Xavier made his rounds mingling with everyone and making sure they kept his house in somewhat decent shape lest he incurs his mother’s wrath.

“Thank you so much for letting me use your place to throw the end of the year party. See it was a good idea and everyone is having fun and we are scoring some major points with the group my cousin brought along from school” Jessica shouted as she threw herself around him.

Xavier laughed and hugged his best friend; he was enjoying himself. Cheryl had always been the cooler older cousin and for her to show up with a few seniors in tow added to the ‘coolness’ factor for their party.

“Of course, we are going to be seniors we need to go out in style. Now have you seen my boyfriend I lost him in the sea of people a while ago” Xavier asked her. Jessica’s features darkened for a moment before she seemed to contemplate her answer for a moment.

“I haven’t run into him recently; last I saw he was with his basketball buddies” Jessica shrugged and walked off but something about her demeanor seemed a little off. Xavier shrugged it off for the time being and continued to mingle about the party.

Xavier decided with things heating up to go ahead and make sure no one was sneaking off to the rooms, cool as he was with the party being held at his house, he was not about to be cleaning up the after drunken horny teens. The coast was clear as people appeared to respect the house rules and avoid the upstairs areas, so Xavier decided to do a quick outfit change into something more comfortable. As he approached his room his blood hot hearing what appeared to be a couple exploring each other in his room. Bursting through the door, time seemed to stop as he found himself in the stereotypical situation involving his boyfriend.

“Xavier!” Kyle called out in a mixture of shock, pleasure, and pain as he emptied himself into the person below him. “Baby wait, it’s not” Kyle’s words were cut short when a fist to his jaw dropped him to the floor.

Xavier turned on his heels to leave when he spotted Jessica in the doorway her hand covering her mouth as they looked at each other before looking down at Kyle’s bed partner. Xavier’s gaze returned to Jessica his eyes widening in realization. “You knew,” Xavier said silently before walking pushing past her leaving the three of them in his room and rushing out running away from his own house.

“Xavier, wake up sleepy head we are here” Jasper smiled down at him as he stroked his face.

“Sorry I guess I was a bit more worn out than I thought. Sorry to fall asleep on you like that” Xavier said as he turned to stare out the window shaking the remnants of bad memories away.

“It’s no big deal I enjoyed spending time with you, the food was great though maybe next time I'll let you pick the movie” Jasper laughed.

Scary movies were not his thing but Xavier wasn’t one to complain when he was just along for the ride. “It was an amazing evening, thank you for inviting me out”

“No, thank you for saying yes” Jasper smiled as he leaned, their lips meeting in a slow intimate kiss. “This is the part where I bid you farewell sweet boy until we meet again.

Xavier nodded as he got out of the car and went inside. Jasper honked before Xavier could hear his car back out and drive off. He slid down the door wrapping his arms around his knees, he was falling and he couldn’t stop it. He wanted this but, at the same time, he felt like this might again might just be heartbreak.

By midweek Xavier found himself out of his funk, he was enjoying his senior year for what it was and trying not to let the past dictate his present and future.

“Someone seems to be in a good mood today. Did you get asked out on another date or are you getting the overly sappy gross texts from lover boy?” Jessica asked as they made their way to the parking lot.

“Would you stop that, there is no lover boy we are just getting to know each other. Besides I've barely seen him this week probably busy with basketball practice or something.” Xavier shrugged as he threw his stuff into his car.

“So why don’t you ask him on a date this time then? You know put the ball in his court this time so to speak.” Jessica giggled at her pun as Xavier rolled his eyes.

“Ask who out on a date?” Kyle asked popping up almost out of nowhere.

“It’s none of your business concerning who I may or may not be asking out on a date. You lost that right almost a year ago!” Xavier shouted as he jumped into his car and drove off leaving the two of them standing there.

“Smooth move genius, you walked right into that one and put your foot right in your mouth.” Jessica glared at Kyle who at least had the decency to look bad.

“Why did he forgive you so easily but won’t even give me the time of day?” Kyle whined looking out in the direction Xavier had driven off in.

“Look, he hasn’t forgiven me the way you might think. I’m still trying to get back to the place we were. The key difference though would probably be that I wasn’t the one who cheated on him, at least not in the physical sense and in his own room for that matter.”

“Hold on, you did what?” Jasper shouted, having made his way over. Kyle groaned with his head in his hands. “Kyle what did she mean by that, better yet Jessica what are you talking about?”

“Jasper I told you before, there are some things you might better off staying out of. This is definitely one of those things, trust me on this one.”

Run Xavier, just as fast as you can...what a toxic miasma of putrid human flesh are Kyle, Jasper, and Jessica...RUN!!!

Notice, how Jasper has been missing for days. Wherever Kyle appears, Jasper is close behind. We already know that Jasper seeks Kyle for “relief,” so Jasper is just as bad as the others. They all appear toxic.

What is interesting is that Kyle believes that he will someday return to Xavier. I suspect that there is more behind the story, which will further implicate Jessica.

Seriously, Jasper. You're screwing around with Kyle AND taking Xavier on a date. Don't even try clutching your pearls in shock! You're just as much trash as Kyle is.

I am not so sure that Kyle is complete trash, however. I believe that there is more to the story. We have only heard Xavier’s side so far. Kyle clearly is not very astute, and it is likely that he was acting out a dare or prank that could have gone too far. He appears remorseful and lost without Xavier. Moreover, he is clinging to the idea that he and Xavier will return to baseline but that remains to be seen if that is at all possible.

Of course, Kyle’s behavior regardless of intent cannot be dismissed, but Jessica has as much if not more involvement than Kyle especially when she stated that Kyle was physically cheating whereas she committed a betrayal just as bad if not worse than Kyle. It is likely that she planned it. Her cousin may have something to do with it as well. She may be the mystery female.

So far, Kyle wants to sabotage any chances that Xavier and Jasper have to become serious. At some point, Xavier and Kyle will clash either in a good or bad way as Xavier cannot simply scream and run forever. He must address his issues and either reconcile with conditions or eliminate both Kyle and Jessica permanently, for acting like an immature adolescent will not solve his problems.

Despite his actions and outbursts, Xavier is still very wounded and has emotions for Kyle. Only time will tell how this scenario plays out.

Since this is the senior year of high school, it is possible that Xavier may graduate and head to a school where neither Kyle or Jessica will be present. Kyle may get injured derailing any dreams for college or professional basketball. His lose of Xavier may be humbling or too traumatic to pursue a serious relationship that does not include Xavier - the infamous one that got away. Likewise, the removal of Jessica may resolve some issues as it is possible that she sabotaged the relationship due to feeling left out.

So many possibilities. I look forward to upcoming chapters.
