love vs. lust

Going down the gay road: stage 3.

I had a long phone conversation with my best friend from junior high two nights ago. Over the years we have drifted apart and it was a little awkward at first because we had barely exchanged more than a few words for the past 15 years. It's only in the last year that we've been in contact again, thanks to Facebook.

Anyway, he's one of a small number of openly gay guys I know in real life that I feel comfortable talking to about my coming out and more generally about the way I feel now. Well, he came up with several good pieces of advice. He shared some of his past and I did the same. I must admit that it surprised me how much different our roads to gay-hood were. For many years in high school and college he was in a loving but strictly platonic relationship with another guy. Love was what he was after

Glad you found that you could love a man.

To me, it had always been love the foremost. I'm almost asexual in the lust department, :P

I understand completely. I would definitely always put love before sex. Maybe I just didn't find love in high school and college, hence why I didn't experiment with gay sex either.

The idea of saying "I love you" to another boy would have sounded utterly ridiculous then.

Sad...

I would agree with you Phoenix, I have been in similar states of mind when it comes to how I view a relationship between my self and another boy or a girl. I remember my friend who just wanted to bug his girlfriend so he grabbed my hand as we walked through the mall I just remember internally freaking out about it, and i'm the gay one hes the straight one. Later on of course it was an experience to reflect on as I have matured a little I think or at least hope, I still don't know if I fully want a relationship with someone I kind of like being single, but at the same time its annoying for everyone to tell me I need a Girlfriend (still in the closet to most people) or as my best friend recently said "we need to find you someone" I guess leaving it open to either or. But I have always viewed a Relationship with a girl as more of a romantic one and a boy probably more of a sexual one, even though i'm pretty sure I don't want a sexual relationship with a girl. O well clear as mud as they say.

I have to say - I would have love to have a gay friend in my teen years. I knew a gay student when I was 11. He wasn't well treated. He seem to be in his own world. Ten years later we meet again and we said hi again and we hugged. It was nice to know that we had no malace between us and that we knew we existed.

Sure I had plenty of lust and plenty horney for love.

But still to me its making a friend first and seeing how far we can take trusting each other to form a relationship.

I was young back then. Having a relationship with a girl be a bit hard for me given a past incident.

But I'm just find if we be friends.

Never found a gay friend. Did meet a weird 12yo when I was 12yo. Its only during history we did weird gay things with each other. But not try to be friends first. Strange kid. He did get picked on. If he'd be willing to try to be a friend outside of history then he would have gain a friend. But he didn't try. I sort of hinted to him but he didn't pick up the notion. I was scared to be doing wierd gay things during history. I hate to be caught and thats why I told him I want to stop thst sort of thing.

It be hard for me to say if I had a lusting relationship. Would I take it? Maybe for a moment but if it never buds into love. Then I wouldn't want a lusting relationship. It just becomes to be a screwy relationship that be hard to understand and lead to trouble.
