10 Things you probably didn't know about me....

Im bored... so:

  1. I have a passion for History. Specifically British Military History. I have a few hundred books on the subject in case anyone is interested ... :D
  2. Linked to the above, I have a fascination with the English Raj in India
  3. I have a collection of books that is too big for my home; they are currently in storage. I have read all of them.
  4. Before I had an "enlightening experience", It was my intention to become a Roman Catholic Priest
  5. I can trace my lineage on one side of the family back to 946, and a gentleman called "Leofwine"
  6. Everyone has heroes. Mine is unusual - its not a sports star or an actor. It is (The Late) King Hussein of Jordan.
  7. I have watched almost every episode of the West Wing. Josh Lyman is my idol. Sam Seaborn (rob Lowe) is my.... *ahem* **COUGH**
  8. The town I live in (Northern England) has a designated Tiger Catcher "Just in case". There is no record of Tigers ever having even visited the town.
  9. I love "The Godfather" trilogy
  10. I have never changed a childs nappy - and have no intention of ever doing so.

Well... i hope you found some of that interesting.... I know it killed 30 minutes or so for me.

Funnily enough, I wanted to be a priest when I was about 6 or 7 too. :P But I'm with you on military history. I love it, although I obviously tend to read more about American military history.

A COMPARITIVE LOOK:

I have a passion for History. Specifically British Military History. I have a few hundred books on the subject in case anyone is interested ... :D

Me too. That and French history.specool.gif

Linked to the above, I have a fascination with the English Raj in India

Less of an interest for me, but that's probably realistic based on our different nationalities.

I have a collection of books that is too big for my home; they are currently in storage. I have read all of them.

I highly recommend getting a bigger house. We have bookshelves in the study, the basement, and the guest room.biggrin.gif

Before I had an "enlightening experience", It was my intention to become a Roman Catholic Priest

"Enlightening experience" in English means "involving a penis," if my translator is working correctly.tongue.gif

I can trace my lineage on one side of the family back to 946, and a gentleman called "Leofwine"

Leofwine? I saw that dude on Facebook a few days ago.

Everyone has heroes. Mine is unusual - its not a sports star or an actor. It is (The Late) King Hussein of Jordan.

He had a hot (American) wife. You have a hot Slavic boyfriend. I can see the similarities.wink.gif

I have watched almost every episode of the West Wing. Josh Lyman is my idol. Sam Seaborn (rob Lowe) is my.... *ahem* **COUGH**

Kind of surprised, hearing that from a Brit. I liked CJ. And Sam.wub.gif

The town I live in (Northern England) has a designated Tiger Catcher "Just in case". There is no record of Tigers ever having even visited the town.

Everyone loves tigers. It was wishful thinking.

I love "The Godfather" trilogy

Me too, especially the end of Godfather I where everyone gets whacked.

I have never changed a childs nappy - and have no intention of ever doing so.

I have. It comes with huge rewards in the form of fatherhood. I recommend you reconsider.

I saw a 'Tiger' here at GA. I was trying to catch him for quite some time now. But he is cleverer than me. He is not an elusive creature though. Here you can find him.

Would you please catch him for me?:ranger:

I would like to know about the British Raj in India.

I have to say #8 is my favorite by far :) That's ... great. What an awesome thing to put on a job application under prior employment. Tiger Catcher. lol

I prefer American HIstory, for obvious reasons. Specifically , the Civil War.

Care to elaborate on King Hussein? That IS unusual, though he was a great political figure.

I recommend you read "leap of faith" by Queen Noor of Jordan (the HOT american wife Mr Arbour refers to) to get a better understanding.

But basically we have a man who was provoked, browbeaten, insulted, attacked and constantly offended - and he met all that with grace and forgiveness....

When an assasination attempt was made on him... he freed the would-be killers with the words " they were desperate, but they are my brothers - what was I to do?"

Ok, I'll check it out. Again, I am not surprised that King Hussein could be seen as a hero; I'm only surprised that he was your choice since you mentioned your love for British miltary history, and since you have so many British figures to look up at. You have fascinating tastes :D.

Great list - we agree on an awful lot;

History - yep British, but I tend to concentrate on Georgian and Regency England

The raj - yep, but again I love the social history rather than the seiges etc...

Books; we have two house on two continents both bursting (the houses, not the continents) as well as 1250 books in storage.... we do try and stop buyng them but somehow it doesn't work......

RC -mmmm have to skip that one: closest I came (!) to that was having a 6 month affair with a trainee priest - proving Mark's :worship: translator works!!!

can't get back to 964, but we were mid level bureaucrats in Norwich at the cathedral back in the 1300's (given until recently I was a mid level bureaucrat you can see that it's hereditary!

Hussein of Jordan was a great leader and is truly missed. he is definately at my dinner party of people I'd most like to get to know

I have watched EVERY episode of WW, most at least twice. Sam can have my babies any time he wants - he just needs to whistle and I'll come...... :D . CJ can come to dinner, provided she brings the First Lady with her (Stockard Channing has always done it for me....)

Re tigers; my mother was born in the year the last Tasmanian Tiger died (is that enough of a connection????)

You may like the Godfather trilogy; I'd like a trilogy of godfathers........

re nappies - I have to agree with Mark :worship: : haveing children is f'ing amazing; one of the many downers is changing nappies - however that is balanced by the joy and sheer self satisfaction in seeing your children growing up that it makes all those nasties pale into insignificance!
