Last Entry in Surrogate Process

Golly [trying to practice child friendly language] it's been over a year since I started this blog - a few of the posts were lost when yours truly had a bit of a snit of nothing - but I started to detail this last August I think. Well here we are, last entry in this phase. After this it will a new Category to detail life as a dad. Can't tell you how excited I am.

Today my co-worker who had twins about 12 weeks ago, came in with the babies, she had a boy and a girl. Claire was quickly stuffed in my arms - maybe to see if I had what it takes. OMG - now I've held babies before - lots, but today felt a bit different, it was almost like a trial run. I'm happy to report that fussy baby started to coo and smile when I was holding her. Hopefully my daughter is just as happy to be around me. My status among the ladies in the office went up a few notches when they realized I wasn't going to drop my daughter and that I had in fact taken Newborn Infant Care classes and knew how properly to hold the child. :D

Tuesday was the last OBGYN visit for Step [the surrogate sounds so impersonal]. Basically she's not dilating  no clue why that's good or bad - but what I did understand was my daughter is in no rush to meet her daddies. So they are going to induce labor on Wednesday morning at 12:30 am Pacific standard time. Okay so twelve freaking thirty? what's up with that? They couldn't do it at a nice reasonable hour like 6 am? I mean it's not like we have days and days ahead of us to catch up on sleep. So in the infinite wisdom of hospitals, they are going to keep us up all night before she arrives, just so we can stay up all night for the next six weeks. Wonderful.

So this weekend we're leaving for CA. My parents - over excited people that they are, have rented a condo on the beach for a month so they can 'host' us when she is released from the hospital while we give her a week to catch her breathe before we fly her home. I'm told the place is nice. Not sure I care, they are saving us a hotel cost for 8 or 9 days, it's perfect for us. Washer/dryer, kitchen, two bathrooms, mom to cook for us, how much better does it get? :D

Okay so I plan to get a website up - yeah right - for pictures - I'm not much of a face book person - and I'll be sure to let folks who want to see know how to get there.

Thanks for all the nice comments and support along the way. Spring Training is over, time for the season to begin in earnest :)

You'll be a fabulous dad. Almost there. Hold on and get ready for the ride... not that you ever can get ready.

I'll send out good energies on Wednesday for a safe arrival. Ooooh how exciting.

Best wishes from me, I have faith that everything will work out well, sleep or no sleep for you daddies. :P

Give your little girl a  from me too when she finally arriwes! Enjoy the fatherhood and take TONS of pictures so you'll have enough material to blackmail her when she gets to the trouble years and starts dating.

:D :D :D

She's gonna wrap you guys around her little finger in a heartbeat <3

Good luck Andy, and enjoy your time on the beach with the family. Sounds like a good setup having 'Grandma' there.

'Mommmm, can you check on the baby, just this one time.' whines Andy at 2am.

Well... I'm going to get technical, and try not to be explicit, in case you really didn't have this explained to you. When a woman isn't dilated they usually have them go in early the night before, 10 pm-12 am and get them all set up, then apply a chemical via different internal methods that can help things get going before they start the pitocin IV medication the next day. Just giving a woman pitocin when her body isn't dilated hurts, I know, I had it done to me with the 2nd one because your body goes from nothing to full labor and it has more work to do than one that is already going on it's own a bit. They expect parents to get more rest while they wait for the chemicals to work, though dads get the short end of the stick with sleeping options. Of course they aren't about to... well, I won't get explicit on that either.

Anyway, just think of it as a preview. I bet you guys will be so jazzed once you have her you won't even notice that you're exhausted, covered in facial stubble and reek of the hospital sanitizer you are going to demand everyone use before they come close to her ;) I can't wait to hear your stories and see the pictures!

Since I'm not so much into praying, good energy is just my style :D Thanks Nephy.

No, thank you Bob, you and all the other folks here have always given me words of encouragement so I thank you and everyone else.

I keep saying she won't wrap ME around her finger, thinkng if I say it enough it will come true, but in the end I know I'm doomed, she will no doubt rule the roost for many years to come :)

Haha, I wish Vic, mom's health is not what it could be, so I'll be the one to get up, BUT them getting the place and from what I hear it is very nice - is a huge help to Mike and I. Thanks for the well wishes :)

Good luck! <3 hehe

Thanks JC - now you know what it's gonna be like - sorta - when you do this :P

EWWWW - I think I'm gonna pace the waiting room and stay out of the way - yup that's what I'm gonna do. Bet on it :D.

Pictures? Oh my dear friends, you SO have the wrong person for that. I am the WORST at taking pictures and even worser if that could be possible at up loading and posting them. But I'm going to try and be better - promise.

Every time I read one of these updates I have this urge to give you unsolicited advice. I've got half a dozen in mind right now. :)

But I think I'll just remind you we're in the same area code. After the moms go home yell if you need help. I'll answer.

HAHA, I don't know that I can yell that loud, but I can email :P

I'll leave the yelling for everyone else.
