Haters And Bigots = Changes To My About Me Section

Just a short rant I promise. I have had to make some changes to my about me section and here is why..

I had a visit today from my church pastor and like I expected it was about… yep you guessed it, my writing. Apparently I am leading my readers down the wrong path and maybe am heading there myself. *cue the eye roll*

I won’t bore everyone with our conversation, but needless to say he wants me to stop writing gay/paranormal romance and I very nicely told him to get stuffed. I told him I would leave the church and move to another rather than stop writing. I also took great pleasure in telling him I had already found another church and they were willing to accept me and my work. The only reason I haven’t moved yet is I would be taking Alisha away from her friends and I don’t want to do that unless I have to – but I will.

As he requested I have deleted my association with the Hastings Street/Prayer Pastors from FB and my blogs/pages, as he feels they would not want to be connected to a writer of my genre. I will contact the leader of the Street/Prayer Pastors and if he agrees with this, I will ask him to take me off their rota and not to contact me again.

I WILL NOT CHANGE FOR ANYONE, ESPECIALLY HATERS AND BIGOTS.

Lastly I would like to thank my friends both old and new for all their support. I have learnt and continue to learn a lot about writing from all of you – and I have a lot of fun doing it.

That's a shame that your pastor can't see past his own narrow-mindedness.  I'm glad you've found a church that accepts you and your writing.

Thanks Valkrie.

I was actually surprised because he always seemed so open minded but... *shrugs*... you learn new things about people all the time.

Good for ya!

People like him perpetuate hatred in this world, They should be placed in a room alone, locked in, and the key thrown away!

It would be interesting to hear if the pastor would have the same conversation with a member of the church who writes murder mysteries? Some of the newer crime books are really creepy. If anything would lead people astray, it's those books.

Not that I would want anyone to have to stop writing creepy crime. I just DON'T READ THEM! Simple solution, pastor...

You just keep writing, Caz!

I hear the Church of England is pretty laid back. You don't even need to believe in God, they're happy just to get bums on seats :P

*I understand this has a different meaning in the US but, hey, there's always Google Translate *

I actually left our church because of the homophobic attitudes. It irritates me that people use the church and God to justify their own small-mindedness.

So sorry that happened to you. I'm so glad you stood up to him and held to your beliefs. Please don't let his narrow mindedness get to you. we love you, keep on writing away!

I guess I am just not understanding the issue. Your stories are all about love and commitment, permanent bonding, being there for one another, and helping others. What's his beef? That your main characters happen to not be human? That guys fall in love with guys?  Last time I looked homosexuality was not a choice, it is the way God made some while making others hetero. Ask the old fool if he thinks God made a mistake?

You do whats right for you and your family. And while I understand that your daughter might prefer to stay with her friends, do you really want her being preached to by someone that narrow minded?

Sorry to take so long replying to you all but my hubby and I had a lot of talking to do.

Today I removed myself as a member of this Church and as of next week my family and I will be attending another local church that activity supports what I write as my choice (the pastor there has read some of my more tame stories ;) ).

Thank you all for your kinds words, they were very much appreciated  and I have  intention of letting ANYONE tell me what I can and can't write. And Kitt your comment about what Alisha may hear in the church was a big part of our decision thank you for your insight.

Thanks again :thankyou:
