Guess What! You Won't Make It To Fifty

Some of you know I have health issues. I haven't spelt them out because frankly it's boring to hear about people's complaints, especially from people who aren't in your immediate family or circle of friends.

But my doctors have given me a time frame of my life expectancy. I guess I was surprised, but I wasn't either. I've faced death on a few occasions but wow, a time frame is kind of unnerving. It's scary. Michael is .. I don't know what he is .. sad, afraid.. mourning me already? He vows I'll live longer.

I have sort of vowed the same .. but who knows if the doctors are right. I'll go on living until I die, until I'm stopped in my tracks.

When they said those words, it made me think of skinnydragon's diagnosis and what doctors told him. I just have to wait a lot longer. I have the benefit of those last years, that he didn't but he so deserved.

I've made all my postings here 'complete'. I don't know how much more I'll post here. I don't know. I have much to consider.

I know, it must be upsetting to get a diagnosis like this. I'm on the other side, my hubby is extremely overweight with no real perspective of a healthier life. He's gonna die a lot earlier than I, it's difficult to cope with for both of us, for our kids and other relatives. I hope you and Michael find your own way though this.

Aw glittery i'm so sorry ... i've always been quite slim but i'm not blind to others. I don't know your husband's condition but I know that being overweight and losing it, isn't as simple as people say. I think it's much more complicated than just saying people are lazy or just eat too much. I wish you both the best.

much love,

I forgot one, possibly the biggest. My dad had to help his uncle after school, in the late 30's and early 40's, because the uncle had ALS, Lou Gehrig's Disease. Usual life expectancy about 20 years. I met the man in 1972.  He managed a lot longer than the doctors expected.

I'm glad for your dad and his uncle and that you got to meet him. I'm hoping for better odds too... I'll do all i can to make it happen.

Well that's a bit of a shock. Bloody hell. Given your current age, this is a wild guesstimate at best. My head is spinning so I no idea how you are coping.

Big hugs to you and Mike

Doing okay B. I've had my rock day, I've climbed out and ready to go on. It's dark and lonely under the rock and I've go stuff to do. Pages to fill with my scribbles .. and i need a nap.. gotta find something to help me sleep better.

Thanks B.. we'll be okay. Thank you. xoxoxo

It seems strange to know that someone I've never met holds a very precious place in my heart. Nonetheless, it's true, because you do. I feel blessed that I get to know you and the wonder that is expressed in your words.

Doctors can be right and doctors can be wrong, but in my experience, the human spirit also has a say in how things go.

Luv you lots, my friend. Do what makes you happy and gives you fulfillment.

You're right of course, Reader.  I have no intentions of walking willingly into that deep dark night. But i hope i can do it with grace when it's time.  I have much to say, much to learn before the end.  Being here with you lot, writing and my life with Michael is what i want.

Love you too btw .. and I've met you all as far as i'm concerned.. because your love and spirit fly through the wifi ..

Your doctors told you they expect you won't make it to fifty. Well, I say, defy their expectations.:heart:

Gonna do my best to, Drew.  I'm not ready yet ... and I doubt i will be in ten years either... hugs my friend. Thank you for your support.

Not much I can add to all of the above. We'll cherish the friendship between all of us while we're here. Anything can happen to make any one of us disappear, either temporarily or permanently. It's impossible to live your life thinking about a future death, and healthy living should be done to prolong life because you enjoy it, not for the fear of death. I know you're dealing with your health issues cleverly (those recipes in the forum make my stomach growl, lol), and Michael takes care of you too. I bet you'll exceed expectations like you've done so many times before if so many ways.

You've always been such a solid anchor here, and a staunch supporter of new writers and readers...well, this drives me nuts.

Glad you're out from under the rock...and looking forward to your next work(s)! I'm confident in your heart's and head's abilities to work around this!

And, as others have said--we're here for support/friendly listening ear/vent source!  Use us as needed.

Thank you Robert!  I'm in a much better place today ... and yes i'm writing.. i'll get around it.. thanks for your support Robert...

Thank you Tim!!  I eat well, to keep Mike healthy and because i ate soo poorly for many years. I swore I'd only eat good stuff when i got off the street, that's why i went to culinary school.. for me.  Nothing makes me happier than a big bunch of swiss chard .. yum.

I will do my best to beat expectations!! Thank you Tim..

 I know it's been said by many people, but it bears repeating: don't give up hope. There are advances in medical science every day. I can't imagine how you or Michael felt after receiving that kind of news, but I am grateful you're there for each other.

I understand why you marked your works as complete, but please don't ever stop writing, if only to give you an outlet.

It's taken me this long to get over the shock of your news. I am very, very fond of you darling boy...it's just not fair. You make damn sure you NEVER give up. My husband was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia in 1985, was told that he probably wouldn't see the nineties AND that it would be a secondary disease that would kill him. WRONG AND WRONG! He died in 2006 of CLL when he was 72. Keep your chin up, tim. Keep those great stories coming.

I'm glad for you...and sorry for your loss.  I'm fond of you too... I have good doctors.. good care and i sort of forced him to give me an opinion. He didn't really want to.  I won't quit writing .. i've tried but can't.  Please don't worry about me.. i promise to live until i die.. xoxoxo much love.. xoxo

Gary kept us updated on your progress and I'm very glad you're back and writing and reading. That's wonderful.

Thanks for your encouragement ... I have more time to sort things out than poor Skinny did. Not really any hope of coming back from what he was told.  I have no plans to give up, i've made some positive changes healthwise.

Thanks for your kind words..

tim, i just found you and i need you to stay :) but as others have said, doctors are frequently wrong. very wrong. i been declared dead twice in my life and that i wouldn't make it out of my 30's. 1st doctor told my mother when she was 6-7 months pregnant that all she would deliver is a dead fetus. surprise! died on the operating table at 17, they were sure i would be brain dead. surprise! and now i'm in my mid 50's.

my bother was told his liver was dying and would put out of a job  within 2years and dead within 5 years. he wouldn't

see his 4 year old graduated from high school.  that was back 1982. he finally retired early from his job in 2015, and his son now has a 4 year old.

take care yourself (sounds like you're working that and know that many, more than you may know,  love and care that you stay around.

PS "remember the squirrel" is that like "remember the Alamo"?

Moggy.. if the care and love i've gotten from the people of GA means anything ...i'll live for a heck of a long time.  I said id live till i die like the squirrell  so its close to remember the Alamo.  My mum found a dead squirrell in our back yard, it had been coming down the big maple tree. and it just stopped. So i've always thought.. that i'll live until i die... like the squirrell.  xoxoxoox
