A public personal apology

Guest

There once lived a king, King Myron, who ruled over a large land named Gafa. King Myron's conquests were formidable. He had built his realm from a small fiefdom into a large kingdom, annexing land after land. There came a time in the history of Gafa where this growth had exceded King Myron's ability to effectively administer the kingdom. Gafa contained a diverse population, and the lords of the realm were a fractious bunch. In a brief border altercation, the Flower Lords were defeated by the Black Lords, whereupon the Flower Lords hastened forth to plea their case to King Myron. "Why do these difficult vassals of mine continue to make trouble for me?" cried frustrated King Myron. "Do they not see that I have more important things to do?" Recognizing that these two petty factions would not cease to annoy him, King Myron dispatched his own forces and closed off all borders to their lands. The Black Lords, alpha males that they are, chaffed at the supression of their border rights and rose in revolt. One leader, Lord Marker, was exceptionally unreasonable. "What does Marker want?" fumed King Myron. "I welcome him into my realm and give him all the rights and privileges due someone of his station. By the claws of my mother I swear I have given these people my blood and my soul. Taxation in this realm is even voluntary. What more can they want?" The King, in his fury, ordered the rebellion suppressed. Lord Marker, hopelessly outclassed by the King's forces, relied on guerilla warfare, sniping from the sides of the roads, and other disruptive actions. Pride made the conflict worse. Meanwhile the King, who had given his all to Gafa, became sick and cranky. His back stooped, he seemed much older than his years, and he seemed desperately unhappy. As Lord Marker languished in exile, he realized that the King was Gafa, and that his presence, his leadership, was what made Gafa the strong and successful kingdom that it was. He realized that without King Myron, Gafa would fragment and disolve. How short-sighted he had been to argue with the King, to add to his stress. At a time when his king was screaming for help, begging for assistance and forebearance, he had let his monarch down. Sadness enveloped Lord Marker. In the end, Lord Marker realized that the King deserved his apology and his support. He realized the error of his ways, and on bended knee, proclaimed fealty to the sovereign and begged for forgiveness. "Let the Flower Lords complain endlessly and add to the burdens of their sovereign," swore Lord Marker, "I will join the other Black Lords and support our King. We will try to make his life, and his realm, as good as we can."Moral of the Story: If you're an asshole in public you have to apologize in public. I'm sorry Myr.

Your apology is so transparent, it's laughable.

You're commited to being better than others. You're commited to exclusion. So much for your concept of community.

Wow. I'm not sure what to say about your reaction.

Here's the bottom line:

1. Myr had/has a lot of pressures. If you were one of the people complaining about posts and added to the problem, you have your own issues. This is about mine.

2. He needed help, and I gave him shit instead.

3. When I was done being mad, I looked at the situation and realized that I owed him an apology. An apology as a friend who let him down when he needed help, and an apology for bad manners.

4. It's hard to say "I'm sorry" with the right emotion over the internet.

5. I thought that, since this is a forum for stories, I'd try to express myself with a fable.

6. The last sentence says it all.

Quite frankly, I'm not overly concerned about you being offended or upset. I think that happens far too easily. I'm much more concerned that Myr and others took it wrong.

Your apology whilst not being a first sentence, Im sorry kinda apology, has its message and gets that across. Regardless of what others may think of it, I apreciate the gesture.

So well done and thanks

Thanks Dave. I was worried that it would appear that I wasn't taking responsibility. That's why I put in the last sentence.

Mark,

First of all, your apology is between you and Myr. However, I read your apology and if a reader were not familiar with the facts, they would come away with statements that you made that just aren't facts:

1. Your suspension had nothing to do with the Rainbow members complaining about you.

2. Your suspension was a result of comments you made about and to Myr regarding Myr's decision to temporarily suspend the Soap Box.

3. Myr had indicated that he was temporarily suspending the Soap Box because he received numerous complaints about comments made in it by those that posted comments rather then suspend those of us (I and Kitty, who are from the Rainbow side made comments in the Soap Box. Sweet Mag, Kel and Conner, who are from the Rainbow side had not made comments in the Soap Box.)

4. Your apology implies that somehow those of us from the Rainbow view point complained about you and thus you were suspended. I do not know of any of us who complained about your comments in the Soap Box. Since Kitty and I made comments there about various topics, as did you and many others, I accepted that I too was part of those whose comments may have been deemed "offensive" to others. I felt Myr's decision to temporarilyshut down the Soap Box was fair. As Myr stated, it was monitored by Dan, who was away on vacation. That left No one to moderate it. 5. Myr indicated that once the GA Moderator team was in place, he would re open the Soap Box.

6. As I recall, you did not accept Myr's decision and were very angry and made comments about Myr that were derogatory and deemed out of line.

7. It is my understanding, Myr made a decision to suspend you based upon your conduct after his decision was made regarding the temporary shut down of the Soap Box.

Therefore, I really do not appreciate you implying and stating that your suspension was due to anything other then your conduct regarding the Soap Box. To do otherwise, makes it appear that those of us on the Rainbow side of things (for lack of a better term) complained about you and therefore you were suspended.

To me, your apology is between you and Myr. However, your blog entry has brought into play facts that are not accurate. Therefore, I have commented, since I do not believe you have a right to portray that somehow your conduct in some fight or battle, which never occurred, with Rainbowers led to your suspension. Plain and simple, your suspension had nothing to do with arguments with those on the Rainbow side....but had everything to do with your conduct and statements in your reaction to the temporary shut down of the Soap Box.

Therefore, I find your apology to be inaccurate and seeking to blame others for your suspension when the Shakespearaen saying "the fault lies not in the Stars, but in ourselves" applies here.

Indeed, you have posted a "fable" and a "fairytale" rather then the facts. It is yours to do but I also feel it is mine to reply what I believe actually happened and not some mythical "Rainbow v. Darkside" fight or argument that never occurred resulting in the Rainbow team getting you suspended. That just is not so. Indeed, had Myr decided to suspend those who posted in the Soap Box, I would have been suspended. His decision was a fair one. I said it then, I say it now.

Gee, had you started with "I am sorry" and that your suspension was a result of your reaction to the Soapbox temporpary shut down, well, I would have said good for you.

I am just beyond surprised that somehow you chose to base an apology what you did based upon something that never happened. Apologies based upon events that actually happened rather then an apology based upon events that never occurred makes others see that one is humble and learned from events. That is something we all can relate to and could have here. Pardon the pun but I don't believe you hit the mark with your apology, since I don't see it based upon actual facts and events.

I thought I was pretty clear in accepting responsibility for my actions. If I didn't make that clear in the initial post, I think I made it clear in subsequent posts.

The only inaccuracy you cite is the involvement of the Rainbow side. It is my opinion that if we were to reveal all of the facts, we'd find that the impetus to close down the SoapBox was the continuous posting of complaints to Myr in the first place. It is my perception that those posts came from the Rainbow Team, which perhaps stems from the continuation of those activities. If I am wrong, than that part of the fable can be discounted as fiction.

You're right that the apology is a personal thing, but I think when you make an ass of yourself in public and insult someone in public, you have an obligation to apologize in public. I figured that by putting it in my blog, which is somewhat personal, I'd find the happy blend.

Your post was a little wordy, and you re-stated many of your arguments, but I'm going to assume that's just the lawyer in you. Buried beneath the verbiage, in as warm a way as is probably possible based on our past interactions, I felt there were some positive thoughts. Thank you for those.

Mark...

I am an attorney and we restate our argument in many many ways...as often as we can!!! Until the Judge says our client has prevailed.....its just our legalese nature...but all kidding aside...(since my post wasn't designed to be an argument with you or anyone else.. or for me to need to win or otherwise prevail as to a Rainbow viewpoint)

I will again state, in my opinion, the Rainbow side made no complaints about your posts in the Soapbox..I was in the mix of those posts...why would I complain when the same thing could have been said of me. So, I can't speak for Kitty, who posted during that time period (i.e. Supreme Court nominee issues ....but I don't think her posts were objectionable or argumentative as some of mine may have been perceived mine were as I got in thick of the arguments on a variety of topics). I don't believe any Rainbow person complained as to your Soap Box posts. Your blog portrays that to be a fact...from my perspective that just is not so in any way.)

Indeed, Myr stated he received a variety of complaints from many people about the whole tenor of the Soap Box...that is what led to its temporary shut down...

What ensued from there was between you and Myr and thus your eventual suspension. I feel this was not portrayed in your apology and thus I did my long post. (Particularly since I was involved in what led to the temporary shut down and stand guilty as charged for what led to its shut down.)

As an aside, Legal briefs are a misnomer....they run on forever... and as one can see that spills over in my posts...imagine if I really posted a legal brief.

Beyond a statement of the obvious, Your blog is do with as you wish.

I have said my part..now twice, enough of that and I leave it at that.

Mark, I appreciate your willingness to make a public apology. However, your perception is not correct.

As to the rainbow-darkside business in general, and this is my personal opinion only, I'm not speaking on behalf of anyone else -- it is getting tiresome. There is no Rainbow Team and no Darkside Team. Fables can be useful and funny, but when they get to be destructive, IMO it's better to leave them behind and move on.

I don't normally post here, but I read on and off, even though I don't really know Mark (Hi, btw :D ), and I might be out of place posting here since I don't really know all of what's gone on, so apologies if I am out of place, tell me to f**k off if you like. Anyway, my point being, isn't the fact that Mark apologised what matters here and shouldn't that be what focused on, instead of bringing up past events? Let sleeping dogs lie and all that.

Ann and Ben,

I would just like to know one thing, Mark? Do you plan to continue making personal attacks against those members in this forum identified as Rainbow people?

Connor,

My understanding was that the Rainbow team was disbanding and we weren't going to use those labels anymore. I'm confused. Why don't you all (y'all for Kitty) get together, figure out what your position is, and let me know.

In the meantime, since I've NEVER been censored by a moderator for launching a personal attack on anyone (except Myr), I'm thinking that either they missed something or you're not on the same page as them regarding what a personal attack is. I think it's probably best if you just keep on complaining when someone says something you don't like, and we'll let the moderators figure it out.

Mark...what Kitty and I said is that its time to move on...that the so called Rainbow v. Darkside or Darkside v. Rainbow is way too old....so disband? I never realized that the Darksiders...decided to keep going...what Kitty said is:

"Mark, I appreciate your willingness to make a public apology. However, your perception is not correct.

Kitty

I concurred with Kitty...Now you have once again said there is a Rainbow team...Conner asked a simple question...somewhere in your reply, I didn't see an answer.

and once again you have indicated that there is a "Rainbow team" by stating

"Conner My understanding was that the Rainbow team was disbanding and we weren't going to use those labels anymore. I'm confused. Why don't you all (y'all for Kitty) get together, figure out what your position is, and let me know."

Mark...isn't it time to move on beyond all this? There is no Rainbow team, there never was...there is no Rainbow position and as Ann, Kitty and I said this is way toooo old...so enough already...

how about a simple reply to Conner? You make it sound like Kitty, Conner and I get together and decide who posts what for the so called Rainbow team...come on and let us all get past this...why do we need to even go there...this is just so unnecessary and why do you have create sides and labels..which you seem to be doing.

Give up the Ghost and let's move it along...we will all be better for it....

even at this point, my post is tiresome and I am tired of it all..so why do you seem to want to create fire where flames have long been put out? Time to let it go and if we have, why can't you...Conner, just asked for civility..I am sure we can all do that...let us all act as intelligent adults instead of Dodge ball teams in junior high school since that is what I feel like this has turned into. Dodge ball and Junior High sucked then and it sucks now....

so, how about can't we all give peace a chance..it beats juvenile amateur hour and I feel like this has what this hast turned into and I want us all to get on with it..don't you think its time? I sure hope so!

How or why it has come to this is not important. This was a public apology to the Grand Pooh-Baa from Mark. It involves no one else really. Public comment is irrelevant.
