JSmith 320 Posted November 24, 2006 Dom, I'm sorry to see that your work is being posted under another name, and I do hope the administration of the other site removes it, and bans the member. There is absolutely no excuse for plagiarizing another person's work. The reason people do it though: they're lazy. It's just like in school. You always have the people that are asking to copy your homework 3 minutes before class starts. I consider that plagiarizing too, as you took the time to do it, yet they're just copying it. It's not only stupid, it's pathetic the way some of these people act. If you don't have the patience or time to write a story, then don't. But don't sit there and steal a great author's work just because you want the credit, and you like to see your email inbox filled with fanmail each day. I’ve been furious when I’ve heard about it happening to other authors here, but I don’t think I fully appreciated what they went through until tonight. I’m really sorry for that. I love how you're the victim here, yet you still apoligize to everyone else. You're just too damn nice of a guy sometimes, Dom. I hope your week gets better and you enjoy yourself on the weekend Joe
dkstories 17,425 Posted November 24, 2006 Name the site, name the author and let's kick some cyber-butt. In other words...let's get them and make them pay!
NickolasJames8 807 Posted November 24, 2006 Name the site, name the author and let's kick some cyber-butt. In other words...let's get them and make them pay! Exactly. I think this might be a perfect time for Domoholics to unite, seek and attack. :pickaxe:
captainrick 159 Posted November 24, 2006 Name the site, name the author and let's kick some cyber-butt. In other words...let's get them and make them pay! Count me in too!! BTW, isn't this why we copyright this stuff? I may know a certain member here who may be a decent lawyer in his other life. "Hint Hint" :2hands: :2hands: Rick
Maddy 8 Posted November 24, 2006 *ahem* I say shank them and steal all of their cybernetic money If anyone out there has ever plagiarized someone else
Kurt 18 Posted November 24, 2006 Some of us have commented the 'author.' I am really sorry that this had to happen Dom, and I really hope that it gets worked out fast. Kurt
Drewbie 153 Posted November 24, 2006 I reported the abuse, They should at least respond, a few years ago they used to allow N-17 stories, Parents bitched and alot of stories where removed etc.
dkstories 17,425 Posted November 24, 2006 Dom I've not only reported the author's abuse to the administration over there, I posted a review of the story wherein I let people know who read the review that this author has plagiarized the work. Now, with fanfiction.net, it usually takes a day or two for them to take action. They get a lot of 'abuse' reported and have to wade through them, doing at least some basic level of investigation. I know I linked them back to GA and your story site, specifically Desert Dropping. It's pretty fracking obvious from the first two paragraphs it's plagiarism. Let's let this author know he's been caught...when fanfiction.net finally acts, you can expect it to be quick and complete... http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3183005/1/ (thanks to someone for sending me the link...Robert and I were trying to find out where it was on the net.)
Trebs 1,132 Posted November 24, 2006 I've sent the following message via PM to the people who had left a "review" for "Arizona" - there were two who weren't pm'able, but did have email so emailed the same message: ----- Hi, I saw your review of
JSmith 320 Posted November 24, 2006 I think it's kind of hard for FF to miss this one. At least 7 people (including Myr and myself) emailed them, the review board is quickly getting packed with accusations, and PMs and Emails are being sent to the readers. And some people thought GA wasn't united... look at us kick some ass!
Trebs 1,132 Posted November 24, 2006 And good news - while the story is still up there, all of the reviews mentioning that this is plagarism have now popped up on the site as well...
Pai-kun 21 Posted November 24, 2006 I hate plaigarism. Untalented people stealing the work of people with real talent. I can't believe how calm you are about it, Dom. But I guess it's because you're a bigger(not as in fat) person. But seriously, that guy deserves to have his head served to dogs.
DomLuka 7,528 Posted November 24, 2006 Wow, and I was worried that this guy would eventually just go down quietly. Seriously, thank you to everyone for helping. I was having trouble joining the site to even leave a
bKite 1 Posted November 24, 2006 Hey Dom, just posted my rant over there about that loser. I really do hope that something like this wont ever happen again, but as you and all of us domaholics know, you are a very talented writer so unfortunately, this incident is likeley to happen again. I guess what they say is true: imitation is the greatest form of flattery. On another note, I hope that everything is working all right with you (your work, the "other" in your life, and family). Hope thanksgiving wasn't too bad and hope you have, from here on out, a wonderful holiday season. -bkite
writeincode 17 Posted November 24, 2006 I was trying to post some malicious comment in the review section and report abuse but I also got the ERROR notice. How irritating. I think/hope that the ones there are enough to get it taken off immediately!
Mark_l 2 Posted November 24, 2006 How annoying, DD is my fave story ever and i hate that people can be so low as to steal it and make it out to be theirs but it made me smile to see the crazy Dom fans posting the reviews, tried myself but got error messages i hope all those members who enjoyed the story come here and read the whole thing and they get to see your other great stories. I hope this doesn't happen again but if it does its good to know you have an army of domaholics looking out for you Mark
Davey 9 Posted November 25, 2006 I too have reported the abuse to the administration, I really hope this gets sorted out quickly for you Dom, I can only imagine how I'd react if it were my storys.
C James 17,115 Posted November 25, 2006 I'm coming into this late (just saw it) and I hope the thieving scum is both disgraced and removed. Dom, I disagree with you on only one thing but this is like a violation. In my opinion, it IS a violation, no "like" about it. Dom, I'm very sorry that this happened to you. Not only are you a fantastic author, but you are one of the nicest people I've ever encountered. CJ
Objectivist 1 Posted November 25, 2006 you have a few friends dom, which is good. its great that everyone wants for this person to pay. but i cant help but feel sorry, and thats me being very lenient with that word, but i cant help but feel sorry for the guy, because he doesnt have the artistic talent to write his own story, and get good reviews. that or he's not willing to work at it. anywho, you have every right to be a little angry im sure that those 'few' adoring fans will do something about it, as well as fellow authors. you need some of those. im sure that all will be solved, fast, especially w/ all the response this problem is getting.
Krista 14,670 Posted November 25, 2006 Well this is upsetting really. I don't know how in the world he thought he could get away with it. The name Blaise is terrible anyway, poor guy. Desert Dropping is one of the most popular stories on the net period. Everyone I ask for suggestions on what to read has said, "Dom's Desert Dropping," I've already read it though. Well actually I've read it twice.. lol. Anyway, what is yours will return to you. I just don't want to think about how many times our stories really have been copied and us not been given credit for it. It's just an icky thing to do.. bleh. Good luck with the Admins at FF.net. Krista
JamesSavik 24,804 Posted November 25, 2006 What a dumbass. Copying one of Dom's stories is like whupping out a copy of the Stand by Steven King or Executive Orders by Tom Clancy and claiming it as your own. He might have gotten away with it if he had copied on of my stories.
Korbin81 0 Posted November 25, 2006 Hi Dom, I saw your blog entry right before I was heading out for work, and wasn't able to post sooner. I have to say that this plagiarizing son of a b*!#$ has some serious karma backlash to look out for! What kind of idiot would be dumb enough to try and steal one of the Internet's most well-known and respected gay author's work? Pisses me off too, because this person is trying to turn a beautiful work of original fiction into HP fan fiction, and doing so poorly I might add. He changed a name or two; also instead of Rory,
rknapp 32 Posted November 25, 2006 I'm not sure who the real victim is here... Dom, or Desert Dropping. I wanna meet the mother who names her child Blaise. What the hell??? It's also very clear from the second sentence (Ari-frikin-zona) that the story was copied. I can see and forgive someone copying the plot, so long as names, places, and events are completely and 100% unique to the other author... I mean all romance movies are the same. But, people like this character are why steel-toe boots were invented.
